I purchased this because it was a good quality protein for my senior dog who was diagnosed with advanced kidney failure. It is a lot drier than the turkey, lamb, and pork flavors that he used to eat. My dog had to learn to like the rabbit and to get him to eat it I had to mix it 50/50 with the Forza10 renal diet. He eats 1 container Forza10 mixed with 4 nuggets a day over 2-3 meals. This combo is working for him when he was refusing all food. I would recommend this if you need it for a specific reason since the flavor did not appeal to either of my dogs by itself. Goats milk or gravy should help with that. I just wish that the price was more reasonable.
My dog has food allergies to meat and found that rabbit is a good alternative. My dog weight 4.8 pounds and gets feed primal rabbit 3 times a day and she loves it! Her bowl is always cleaned after every meal. This helps maintain her weight and she poops every day! Along side this I give her daily vitamins! She gets excited when meal time comes. I also use a grinder to grind up the food, so that way I don't have to break it down by hand.
Primal Rabbit has worked out well for us. Due to Cooper's allergies, some times a new variety, even of the Primal, can be a wrong decision. Chewy cares about our pets & works to correct what our pets can't tolerate. So glad he LOVES the Rabbit. Primal has helped to save his life!
I can't say enough wonderful about this food! One of my dogs was diagnosed with Lymphona. He didn't want to go for walks anymore so I got him a pet stroller so I could walk my other dog (papillions) After 11 days on this food he was running outside and taking walks like he used to. I could walk my other dog (papillions). After 11 days on this food he was running outside and now takes walks like he used to. They also have frozen food (not rabbit though) that is more budget friendly. I use the Rabbit formula as it has the most protein. High protein low carbs is recommended for dogs with cancer.
Our 3 dogs enjoy many of the products from Primal.
My Toby has always been a picky eater even on the highest quality kibble. Toppers helped but he still walked away from many meals going hungry. He also has food and environmental allergies and there aren't many foods out there he can eat. I thought I'd better try out a raw diet after hearing how good they are for dogs. Toby is absolutely hooked, he LOVES to eat now! He is on a half and half diet, half Primal and half Kibble. This particular protein food is quite low in calories and not only couldn't he eat the required amount of food in volume in one day but it would be quite expensive to feed 100%. These nuggets are quite easy to break apart with a fork and not at all hard. Toby dances for his food now and seems more satiated with his meals. I can't be sure yet if his allergies are lessening but I do believe he is better. There is no going back now, Toby loves freeze dried raw food!
I did not like it at first but after soaking with beef broth it was softer and easier to eat.
I am blessed to have two small terriers who embrace a wide variety of recall-free brands and flavors, including this one. I serve a different one at each meal as we cycle through 20+ varieties every week. I believe that this helps reduce risk of nutrient deficiency or possible toxic overload from any one source.
Getting our diabetic dog to eat his low fat prescription food prior to his daily shots has been a nightmare. So far, these Primal Nuggets (the Rabbit and Venison formulas due to the lower fat content) have worked like a charm. 1 nugget crushed with a bit of water and microwaved for 30 seconds poured over two dogs' kibble is working great.
Caring for a special needs rescue is a challenge, especially finding the correct food. Primal rabbit has been a life changer for my JRT. Highly recommended. It most definitely is worth the cost.
