Training your puppy
Stage 1: Getting Off to a Good Start
Create an enclosed small space where your puppy can be confined but still feel like part of the family. Make the space large enough for the litter pan to be at least 3 to 4 feet from the puppy's crate and water bowl. Fill the pan with litter or recycled paper litter to the fill line when the puppy is not there. (This prevents him from associating it with the sound of kibble being put in his food bowl.) Place a small amount of the puppy's urine or solid waste in the pan to help pet understand what the pan is used for. Don't scold; praise your puppy profusely and give him a treat when he is using the litter pan!
Stage 2: Be in Control
Set up a routine of feeding and exercise. Have fresh water available until a few hours before crating for the night. Feed your puppy at the same time each day, removing the bowl after 1 to 20 minutes. Keep your puppy on a leash while outside the pen area. You will keep accidents to a minimum when you have control over your puppy at all times until your puppy is fully trained.
Stage 3: Build Good Habits
Place the puppy in the pan regularly when you take your puppy out of the crate, after sleeping or exercising and at mealtimes. Schedule exercise with your puppy. Until your puppy is fully trained, encourage pet to eliminate in the pan before exercising. Using the phrase "puppy go here" when the puppy actually goes in the pan will build the association between the pan and the activity. Eventually, you will be able to use the phrase as a cue for your pet to go potty.
Training your adult pet
Retraining a Puppy That's Already Trained to Use a Pad or Newspaper
Place the pan in the spot where you put the paper/pad, and place your usual material in the pan without the litter. After your puppy has used the pan a few times, fill the pan with litter to the fill line and place the usual material over it.
After your puppy has become familiar with the smell of the litter, slowly begin to use increasingly smaller pieces of the other material, uncovering more of the litter every couple of days.
Transitioning a Puppy Who Has Been Going Outside
Choose an area of about 4 feet by 4 feet to habituate your puppy. Use a command or cue phrase such as "puppy go here" or "do your thing" before you start training to help him understand the association between the place and the purpose.
When your puppy is used to the new area, put the litter pan-filled with grass or other material from the area-in the spot. When your puppy is comfortable with the ground material in the pan, replace it with litter or recycled paper litter. After the pet has been using the pan outside with the litter with complete reliability, start moving the litter-filled pan toward the house a little bit each day until you can bring it into the house.

Great purchase
By DLSD on Jan 1, 2021
The litter pan does just what it is intended to dog. About as attractive as a dog litter pan can be. It is shallow enough so my 12 year old Bichon can easily enter it and has sides that hold the litter and dog effluence without any spill on the side. Note: Rather than 'puppy pads', litter is much easier to train dogs to and much less messy (and more environmentally friendly since it is made from recycled paper or discarded wood pulp).

Used for bunny litter box
By MaryHoppins on Jan 13, 2021
This box was perfect for our Dutch rabbit! Every bunny litter box was too small or she’d kick her waste out when she hopped out. This one I put a thin layer of wood pellets on the bottom and fresh hay on top. She has room to dig and eat and go potty. No mess! I bought a cheap plastic scoop to clean. So much easier and she’s thrilled!

Great Solution!
By Georgie on Nov 18, 2020
Our 18 year old cat is starting to slow down, and had started to think if he’s got the front half of his body in the litter box then his back end must be there too. Oops! Accidents and clean ups. This box has a cut out on one side that allows him to walk easily into it and is big enough that his whole body is where it needs to be to do his business. As with most litter boxes, there is some litter spillage, but with being a multiple cat household for decades we’re used to the little bit of litter clean up required. We also have a 10 year old “tripod” cat and this box works great for him as well - probably more so than the standard box he had been using. So that has been a double win!

Nice size, good quality
By Tori on Jan 4, 2021
Had high hopes my senior Pom would be able to be trained to use a litter box over the winter as the cold and walks are getting hard on him. He wants absolutely nothing to do with it - but the litter pan is nice quality. Tried it with the litter (huge fail) and with his peepee pad inside - no go. The pan itself is great!

Senior cat pan alternative
By catlady54 on Nov 12, 2020
Got this pan for our senior cat who is 13 1/2 years old & has arthritis in her lower back. Princess started going right outside her kitty pan. We knew she had arthritis in her lower back, hind legs & tail (she can’t hold her tail up all the way cause of it). We had started putting puppy pads down, since she always goes right outside of her kitty pan & my friend suggested that we try a low entry pan for her. Got the large pan, which may be a bit too big, but the small pan is to small, which princess is using.. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because it only comes in small & large sizes. Would be perfect if it came in a medium size. Jumbo size pan liners fit just fine; we use it with Dr. Elsey Got this pan for our senior cat who is 13 1/2 years old & has arthritis in her lower back. Perfect for 5lb toy poodle
By Cocoa on Nov 3, 2020
My toy poodle puppy is 5lbs and he's pee pad trained. I line this large pan with a pee pad. It took a couple days for him to get used to it. At first he only puts his front paws in and then pees so he still makes a mess - I had to encourage him to go inside and lift his bottom so he gets what I want him to do. He got it after the 2nd day. No more edge misses. Quality is very good, hoping it will last 15 years since he is strictly pad trained. I change the pad downstairs twice a day. I don't even need to wash it. I just clean with wet wipes and paper towel if he misses. No smell. Definitely recommend something like this that's a lot cheaper since it's just basically a plastic pan with a lower My toy poodle puppy is 5lbs and he's pee pad trained. I bought a washing machine pan instead. Hope it will work. … more

Wobbly cat
By Seniorcat on Dec 29, 2020
I have a sick 18 year old cat who is wobbly and pees over the entrance of his litter box. That was til I got him this. It's big enough to allow him to position himself to go and not loose balance.

Does not work well with clumping cat litter
By PetMom on Dec 14, 2020
The textured bottom and rounded corners make it very difficult to scoop thoroughly if you use clumping cat litter. Too bad liners are not available that fit this litter pan.

Works perfect for what I needed!
By Wendall on Nov 10, 2020
I have a 17yr old cat with arthritis. She had started going other places besides the litter box. I put a night light & also this litter pan, out with the other litter pans. I don't know if it was the light, the litter pan, or a combination of both, but....No more issues!!!!
