What are recommended feeding instructions for offering both wet and dry kitten food?

I have a Main Coon kitten. He’s 7 months and is over 12 pounds. These direction say feed 1 can per 1 1/2-2 pounds body weight. This means I would be feeding him 6 cans a day. Doesn’t that seem excessive? One of your other flavors says 1 can per 3 pounds. What do you think is correct?

Answer by ChewyApr 17, 2019
You should feed one can per 1-1/2 - 2 pounds of body weight daily. Divide into three or more meals and continue to adjust as needed to maintain your kitten in ideal body condition and avoid excess weight gain.

2 of the 3 boxes of purina food were missing 6 of the Chicken & Liver, but had an additional 6 cans of the Whitefish & Tuna. I’m guessing this was a packaging error with Purina and not Chewy’s fault, but I’m still not happy that the boxes were packaged incorrectly. I (and my kittens) really enjoy this brand so I will continue to purchase and hope that the correct amount of each can is in the next boxes I get!

Bonnie was born then found with her mother and litter mates under a porch. She is very tiny compared to her litter mates and has had a rough start. Bonnie has been medicated for eye, ear, bronchial and gastric issues. This kitten food has been the best for her GI track. While she is less stinky, she loves to eat it and has tons of energy.

I really never write reviews but I feel compelled to so I can let people know about the product. We love the purina pro plan line of food however the whitefish and tuna recipe is totally different consistency from the salmon and chicken and our cats refuse to eat it. If this was just our experience I would say we have picky cats. But after taking with other people we know who have cats they have all had a similar experience. They started on this food because of the reputation but their cats refuse to eat the whitefish recipe essentially making 1/3 of the box of cans a waste. The other two flavors are a soft pate texture that our cats love, but the whitefish is made with fairly large pretty firm chunks in a thinner liquid. Our kittens will lick the liquid up but refuse to eat any of the chunks. We even try to chop it small with a knife before serving and they won’t touch it. Just thought I would share so you won’t be surprised like we were to find a completely different texture in one of the recipes.

Kitten says no

My kitten is a little piggy and eats everything, but not this. One sniff and he walks away. Not necessarily anything wrong with the product, just one kitten’s opinion

My kitten loved this, even though it gave him terrible diarrhea and rancid farts. I thought it might be parasites, so we had him tested (twice) at the vets. As soon as we took him off the wet food and swapped to science diet wet food, the diarrhea stopped. I am hoping it was just a bad batch, but buyer beware.

My kittens gobbled it up!

My two kittens loved all the flavors. There is never any left in the bowl. I love that it is vet recommended and good for their growing bodies.

Our boy loved it but developed high thyroid as a young kitten on this which is very rare according to our vet. We took him off this food and onto science diet wet, and his thyroid levels went mostly back to normal range or only mildly out of range. Correlation is NOT causation, but still worried this food may have caused it somehow (allergy?). Giving two stars, but to be fair, it should have 5 stars, but I can't rule out the food did not contribute to his medical condition. I did read reviews from others that Purina has been linked to thyroid disease but I can't prove their claims are true as I have not seen a lawsuit or mass recall of this food. My vet did think this was a high quality food.
