Protection from Scratching

Purrdy Paws soft nail caps protect various surfaces from accidental scratching damage caused by pets. Whether it's hardwood floors, furniture, or delicate fabrics, nail caps provide a barrier between the pet's claws and these surfaces, minimizing scratches and preserving the integrity of household items.

Humane Alternative to Declawing

Declawing can be painful and invasive—medical drawbacks to declawing include paw pain, infection, tissue necrosis, lameness, and back pain. Declawing can change the way a cat’s foot meets the ground and cause pain similar to wearing an uncomfortable pair of shoes. Some cats may even become biters because they no longer have their claws for defense. Purrdy Paws nail caps provide a more humane solution for managing scratching behavior.

Healthy & Happy Pets

For any pet prone to anxiety or stress-related behaviors like excessive scratching, nail caps can offer relief. Covering the claws may make pets feel less inclined to engage in excessive scratching, leading to a calmer and happier demeanor. Some dogs may also experience traction issues, especially on hardwood floors, which can lead to muscular imbalances. Purrdy Paws give dogs the confidence they need to maintain a natural gait.

Safe and Easy to Apply

Purrdy Paws nail caps are made from non-toxic materials that are safe for pets, and application is easy:

  1. Trim your pet’s nails.
  2. Fill the cap 1/3 full of adhesive.
  3. Slide the cap onto the nail, then observe your pet for five minutes to prevent picking at the nail cap before the glue has dried. That’s it!

About Purrdy Paws

Purrdy Paws was founded in 2010 to provide a humane alternative to declawing. The inspiration came when the founder’s cat destroyed a couch. Anyone who has ever loved a cat but felt frustrated and wanted to prevent this sort of destruction will understand the feeling. The veterinarian-developed, humane solution they came up with was nail caps. The kitty loved the caps, he looked great, and they never had another furniture or people-scratching incident again!

Questions & Answers

My small dog bites her nails all the time. I’m wondering if these nail caps will help stop that. I grind them down a tiny bit but in about 2 days they are back to daggers. The veterinarian had me check & I don’t see any sign of problems with her feet. It’s hard to play. Suggestions?

Answer by Shania22Jul 14, 2024
She has anxiety. Figure out why she has anxiety and fix that. You're trying to cover up the issue instead of go to the root of the problem.

I have a senior dog with mobility issues - she drags her back feet and the tops of her nails on those feet often get worn down to the quick. Would these protect those nails and prevent the painful exposure of her quick?

Answer by ChewyOct 05, 2019
These nail caps will be helpful in protecting the nail and avoiding exposure to the quick. To ensure longevity, we recommend choosing the correct size. Keep in mind the nail caps will need to be replaced every 4-6 weeks.

If my dog eats one of the mail caps, are they toxic?

Answer by ChewyJan 20, 2021
These are completely safe, painless and non-toxic. Neither the vinyl nail cap and the glue will cause any issues if ingested.

One of my dogs has nails that split pretty frequently. Does anyone know if these would help prevent that?

Answer by ChewyJan 19, 2018
The Nail Caps would help hold the nail together so it won't split as frequently.

These work if you buy the right size

I hate seeing bad reviews because people buy the wrong size. If they are not snug they will fall off. Send them back if they are not snug and get the right size, dont assume they wont work because you purchased the wrong size. I bought these a dozen times for my dog. The caps never come off prematurely. The stop my hardwood from getting scuffed up. I also buy these for my cats. Please just get the right size.

I called about this item before ordering. The Customer Service Representative assured me that these would be a great fit for my labrador. I had to cut the cap to almost nothing in order to fit over and stay on his broken nail. I will not order again.

I ordered these for my husky to see if they’d help her walk better, but I didn’t get to see if they’d help because they were too small. I ordered the XL caps and received the Large ones instead and they’re extremely small (they didn’t even fit the dewclaw, haha). They seem like nice quality but they’re really just grey caps with sparkles. Still cute but not as visually pleasing as I thought they’d be. Overall, I’m mainly upset about the size being wrong.

Keeps my doggo stable on the hardwood floors

These need to be trimmed slightly shorter for my dog's nails. It depends on your dog but it's easily done with the clippers. These are game changer for senior dogs that are slipping and sliding on hardwood floors. Helped prevent my senior from injuring himself again and keeps my big girl from falling over when she rounds the corners. There is a learning curve to application. I highly recommend making sure they are the right length before you try to glue them on trimming foot hair and dremeling/filing nails. Apply to dry and clean nails and be Goldilocks with the glue. When I cut them off after about 3 weeks I give my dogs nails a breather for a few days and wash them with antifungal shampoo. Highly recommend.

Be warned, adhesive is a challenge

Read the instructions and still go adhesive everywhere, including ozzing out of the nail to her fur. Only put a few on and stopped. Difficult to get adhesive off

Our dog badly injured her nail all the way to the top. I purchased these in an attempt to protect her quick while the nail re-grows. -her quick is okay and still intact. I haven't used the glue because I don't want to glue her quick and cause issues. They stay on decent without it if the nail is trimmed. She doesn't seem to mind it at all on her nail. They've been durable. We lost a couple -again didn't use the glue but they usually keep on a few days (they sometimes fall off when she kicks up after potty). So far it's been a promising fix until she heals.

Cute and fairly easy to apply. However I had to order more glue because there was barely enough to do 2 paws. I ordered 40 Purdue paws and if they were the smallest size there might have been enough glue but my dog uses the XL size and it takes more glue to fill them 1/3 of the way. They have been on for a week so far without falling off. So far so good.
