Instructions
  1. Place your clean bucket near the aquarium and be sure the top of the bucket is below the bottom of the aquarium.
  2. Submerge the entire Hose and Gravel Tube into the aquarium water. Manipulate the unit so that all internal air escapes and the entire unit fills with water.
  3. Hold your thumb tightly over the end of the Hose so water does not escape. Lift the end of the Hose that you are holding out of the aquarium and lower it into the bucket.
  4. Remove your thumb from the end and water will begin to siphon from the aquarium.
  5. Immediately hold the Cylinder vertical and begin vacuuming the gravel using an up and down motion. Some gravel will rise into the Gravel Tube but will fall into place as the Gravel Tube is lifted. This process allows debris to separate from the gravel for easy removal.
  6. Refill your aquariums by filling your bucket with water that matches the temperature of your tank. WARNING! Adding water that is too hot or too cold can harm or even be fatal to your fish.

NOTE: Remove 10% of the water from your aquarium AT LEAST ONCE per month. Larger water changes MAY be harmful to your aquarium. If excessive debris is left in the gravel after you have performed your water change, more frequent water changes (twice monthly) may be needed.

    Tried & True

By Amyluthien on May 19, 2021

This is an old-style tried and true gravel siphon for cleaning aquariums. This version does not attach to a faucet, which is handy if the aquarium you're cleaning is not near a faucet! Which is exactly why I bought this siphon. I have the other "No Spill Clean and Fill" version which I use on my bigger tank (which IS close to a faucet) and both styles work great.

    Mini python

By Candi on May 6, 2021

Worked great on my five gallon aquarium. It's just the right size, I can get the rocks clean and the gunk out. I wouldn't try cleaning anything bigger than a five gallon with the mimi python. I like it.

    Perfect Tool

By CindyS on Mar 19, 2021

I bought this because of the brand is so popular. I have spent so much money on different siphons, but this one seems to do the trick. I particularly like the extra long intake chamber whish helps with starting the siphoning and it works great with my fluval stratum substrate. I like how the small allows me to do my cleaning without too much water flow.

    Works like it should!

    By Karrie on Feb 4, 2021 top1000Contributor

I purchased the mini syphon for cleaning my Fluval Specs (I have two iii’s and a v, 3 gallon and 5 gallon respectively.) It is the perfect size to fit in both tanks and it doesn’t have TOO much suction power that it lifts things that it shouldn’t but it does quickly and efficiently suck out the detritritus and other waste. I can push the wand all the way to the bottom of my tank into the gravel and it won’t disturb the rocks at all but it will suck up every last piece of poop and whatever else from that spot and you can literally see the dirt and debris leaving the tank at a rapid rate.

    I Love Chewy!

By Lowe on May 25, 2021

It suctions very fast. It’s almost to big for my tank. But that’s my fault for buying the big one. It works wonderfully!

    Works great

By CrazyCatLady on Jan 23, 2021

This product works exactly as intended & demonstrated (in a video I watched). I have a small, 3gal aquarium & wanted to be able to vacuum debris on the bottom. I didn't necessarily need it to siphon water out b/c my aquarium has a built-in pump, filter, and spout for water change (Topfin - not available from Chewy). This vacuum cleans the bottom & sucks out waste easily. It's a good size, not too big for my smallish tank. It lifts the gravel as mentioned but it drops back down as intended lifting away the waste. I didn't have a problem with it sucking out the gravel. No screen needed. It did a real good job sucking the dirt from the bottom even drawing embedded waste from down in the gravel This product works exactly as intended & demonstrated (in a video I watched). It did a real good job sucking the dirt from the bottom even drawing embedded waste from down in the gravel not just what was lying on top of the gravel. I moved it around a lot & into the gravel & across the gravel. It has a nice long tube so it will reach any bucket or container you use to catch the water. I happen to have a sink close by so just put the end in the sink, no mess, no emptying a bucket. I just cleaned & sanitized the sink afterward. This is NOT a self priming siphon & I did not start the flow as instructions suggest. I did it the old fashioned way & sucked on the end to get it started. Since the tube is long & clear, it's easy to follow the progress of the dirty water flow so you don't accidentally get it in your mouth, just pay attention to what you are doing....hahaha. I got the impression that some of the reviewers either don't understand how a siphon works or have never used one. This is about as simple as they get. The rigid portion of the siphon is a good size for smaller tanks. It is long enough to reach the bottom without being too long or short. It is small enough diameter to fit around any plants or other tank decor fairly easily, depending on how cluttered your aquarium is. 1 review I did agree with said it sucks out a lot of water before you might get all the gravel clean, yes it does remove a lot of water fast. I replaced it with fresh & started vacuuming again...I am no fish expert & maybe I added too much fresh water at one time but didn't see any harmful effect to my Betta. I wanted to vacuum that dirt out rather than try to change out the entire tank & wash the gravel & do set up all over again....This siphon, vacuum worked great for me & I would recommend it. … more

    Expected to be wider

By NotSafe on Mar 4, 2021

I own the python mini and ordered this thinking it would be wider but it’s literally just same size as the mini, only longer. Not disappointed because I’ll still use it but was just hoping for more width.

    This item DOES work!

By JFarmer on Jan 10, 2021

This is a siphon. It works just like it's supposed to work! It doesn't hook up to your sink (that is another Python product) doesn't come with a screen to protect fish (You will have to find that somewhere else. It isn't common on siphons.) and isn't fancy in any way. However it does exactly what it is meant to do well. Please just read the instructions it comes with! No, you don't need to start it with your mouth. I have never done that. The instructions are on the packaging. Get a bucket, put it in the floor, and place the hose end of the siphon in it. Lower the large plastic tube end into the water horizontally. Raise it into a vertical position filling the tube with water you will see water This is a siphon. Quickly lower the tube back into the water keeping the vertical position. The siphon will have started. You can now turn the tube over and begin vacuuming the substrate. Aquarium Coop also has great instructions for siphoning on YouTube. If you don't understand the idea of siphoning don't review this just yet. If you don't like getting your hands wet don't keep aquariums! That one just hurts my head a bit. I don't get that. Lol. This is the best siphon I've ever had. It's flexible and easy to maneuver. I hated the Aqueon ones that were so rigid. This works. Try it. … more
