By the time the water is flowing my hand is already getting tired. The moment I stop squeezing the water stops flowing and I have to start over rebuilding the pressure. Worst part is I wanted to vacuum the gravel but I can't seem to get enough suction to do that. The gunk swirls a little but doesn't actually go up the tube, just clear water leaves the tank.

Absolutely worth it

I highly recommend this for cleaning your gravel fish tanks. Much easier than the other methods and possibly ingesting dirty fish water (ew!).

Not worth it

Kinda works but a pain. Cheaply made. Weak suction despite fitting my python vac. Makes a mess. Not worth the price or hassle.

I can't believe all the negative reviews and people that have had problems with this. Here's what I've learned over time using it. It works perfectly with any python gravel vacuum. If you have a different brand it may not work for you. Also, if it worked at first then seemed to have stopped working chances are it's clogged with something such as, plant matter, sand, gravel, ect. Take it off your gravel vac and rinse it out put it back on and it should work. I have had that issue a couple times with plant debris getting stuck in there then it won't create suction. I hope this helps someone. Tank on!!

Amazing product, makes siphoning planted tanks easier

When used in the 75 gallon planted goldfish tank, I can just hang the bulb over the bucket, give it a few squeezes, and the vacuum is created. The water flows. Much easier than have to tip the wide end of the siphon upside down, especially since the surface of my tank is filled with dwarf water lettuce these days. When used in my tiny 1.5 gallon waterfall pond in the anole terrarium, I do need to submerge the bulb with the siphon end to create the vacuum, but it is still easier than try to tip the siphon end upside down, or sucking on the siphon end.

Came with one adapter

Did not work at all for me, the adapter doesn’t fit my siphon tube. I thought “how many siphon tube sizes can there be?” Apparently more than two.

I bought this to go with another product that is a tube siphon to remove dirty water from my aquatic turtle tank. The siphon seemed like an efficient and non-messy way to clean the tank. Unfortunately, it was hard to get the siphon started and it created a mess. I bought this squeeze bulb because I thought it would make the siphon easier to start. Water still splashed on the floor, me, and the furniture. I now use a turkey baster to remove visible organic matter from the water for daily cleaning. When emptying the tank, I scoop out the water until it is too low to scoop, then remove the rest of the water with the baster.

Underwhelming

2 stars because technically it did what it was supposed to do but it doesn't work very well. I started with just the Python gravel washer after my Aqueon broke

2 stars because technically it did what it was supposed to do but it doesn't work very well. I started with just the Python gravel washer after my Aqueon broke. The gravel washer itself was difficult to get started so I got the siphon starter. Without the starter you had to submerge the whole washer & tube in the tank. I thought using the siphon starter would make it easier to get the siphon to work. I tried it multiple ways. Make sure the tank is at a higher elevation than the bucket. It worked, but the flow of water was slow. I was used to the Aqueon manual siphon that was easier to start and had a better flow of water.

I know some people have complained it doesn’t work and it’s difficult to get started but you have to use gravity to your advantage! If you hold the bulb upside and do one-two squeezes it will start immediately, then direct your flow down into your bucket! This all happens within a few seconds so you have to be pretty quick and do it above the bucket, so it can be a little annoying and you might miss and get the floor a bit wet a few times but it definitely works and I like it just fine.
