To feed, cut into 1/8" to 1/4" cubes. All dogs metabolize differently. Adjust amount as needed to maintain proper weight and physical condition.
It is important that your pet switch pet food gradually from his current pet food to avoid digestive upset.
To Transition:
Week 1: Start with 1/4 Redbarn food and 3/4 other food Week 2: Gradually increase to 1/2 Redbarn food and 1/2 other food Week 3: Feed 3/4 Redbarn food and 1/4 other food Week 4: You are now able to feed your pet 100% Redbarn food
Remember These Tips When Switching Your Dog's Food:
- Puppies become adults at 12 months of age and should transition to an adult dog food to ensure they are receiving proper nutrient levels for adult dogs.
- Pregnant or nursing dogs need energy-dense foods with increased calcium content so be sure to transition them during this special time to a puppy food. However, during pregnancy or nursing, large breed dogs should be switched to a regular puppy food, not a large breed puppy food.
- If your veterinarian has recommended a therapeutic dog food for a specific health condition, please be sure to discuss transitioning his dog food in detail. There could be some special considerations and suggestions to ensure success.
How do I store the Redbarn Rolled Food?
You do not need to refrigerate the food rolls until they are opened. The shelf life for our unopened food rolls is one year from the production date. If you do plan to store the rolled food for a prolonged time, we suggest storing in the refrigerator for optimal freshness. To serve, slice through the wrapper for your desired serving size. Leave the casing on the remaining product and seal the open end with plastic wrap, foil or in a zip-top bag and refrigerate. Opened sealed rolls will remain fresh in the refrigerator for one-to-two weeks.
Can I freeze Redbarn Food Rolls?
Yes. Redbarn Premium Rolled Food freezes very well. Simply slice into sections and wrap individually before freezing. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
The serving size on the Redbarn Rolled Food seems quite small from what I am used to feeding. Does my dog get enough food with such a small meal size?
The answer is yes. Our rolled foods contain a lower moisture content than many rolled or canned foods so you can feed less while still maintaining optimal nutrition. To meet AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) approval as a full meal, the food must contain caloric density or energy required by your dog based on his body weight and the recommended daily serving amount. By meeting AAFCO approval, REDBARN provides a sufficient amount of energy for your dog based on our daily feeding recommendation.Feeding a smaller, nutrient dense meal, it is easier on your dog's digestive tract. It also reduces the amount of waste your have to clean up in the yard.
I am surprised at the long shelf life on your Rolled Foods when you claim "No Artificial Preservatives." How is that possible?
Redbarn rolled food is preserved naturally by using ingredients that “bind” the water to reduce the water activity (Aw) to a level where harmful bacteria cannot grow. It is further preserved by natural ingredients with antioxidant properties such as Flax seed, Rosemary and Tocopherols (Vitamin E source)
How do I read the "Best By" date that is on the White Sticker on the roll?
The “Best By” date is read as MM/DD/YY and the last digit is an internal batch number.

Dogs love it, so be careful
By Marc on Jan 27, 2021
Ok, so...apparently this stuff smells really good even through the package. I got the smallest one, so it's about a meal's worth for a dog. I took it out of the box and put it on the counter. My wife saw it on the counter and pushed it back to the back splash. JOEY, my black lab mix, obviously smelled it, then stood up on his hind legs so he could SEE it, and somehow, some way, GOT IT...and ate the whole thing, wrapper, metal brads on the ends, and all. I arrived in the kitchen shortly after and had no proof that he ate it, other than the lack of its existence on the kitchen counter, and Joey looking at me, licking his chops. So I told my wife and together we panicked. The wrapper Ok, so...apparently this stuff smells really good even through the package. I got the smallest one, so it's about a meal's worth for a dog. Long story short, constant monitoring for 24 hours...he seemed fine the whole time and approximately 22 hours (and 3 poops later) there it was. I had to put on some disposable gloves to fully search through "it", but I found the whole wrapper and both metal brads...it all passed. Whew. So yah, if you get this...BE CAREFUL and don't leave it anywhere your doggie might be able to reach it. I've lived and learned. … more

Helps get my dog to take her monthly chewable
By Jsjr on Feb 16, 2021 Top 1000 Contributor
My pit bull hates pills, even expensive chewables, so it's hard getting her to take her heartworm meds. I found if I cut up the chewable and mix it with this food she will eat it. They look similar and I think she just doesn't notice. So this is her monthly treat. I just cut the tube into portions and freeze the rest. It thaws well.

Train your dog to do ANYTHING with this!
By SalemLab on Dec 15, 2020 Top 50 Contributor
This was a gift from the heavens from our dog trainer: he would bring a bag of crumbly little cubes to our house for each session and our Lab puppy went crazy for them. I can get our headstrong Lab to learn anything when I wave this in front of his nose! If a piece of this is available to him, he will 100% ignore his cat brother – a miracle! The food has a texture similar to a less-sticky cookie dough – very easy to shape into little cubes for the treat bag AND it is fantastic in concealing pills, tablets, meds! The food itself is smelly and it gets my dog's attention during training. When one bag gets low, I pull a new batch out of the freezer and leave it in the fridge to thaw overnight – it’s ready to go. Using a handful of cubes per day (meds, some training), the smaller-sized roll lasts maybe 4 months. I've never used this as his primary food source for meals, but as a training treat I highly recommend. If you aren't freezing, definitely store in an air-tight resealable bag in the fridge so the product doesn't dry out and turn into dust. We buy the beef but he loves the lamb flavor, too! I’m grateful for this product and tell a lot of people about it! … more

Not a big hit
By VJordan on Jan 25, 2021
I just adopted a dog so I'm trying different things because she turns out to be a very picky eater. She ate this food a little but she still prefers her canned dog food. In fact, she won't eat anything but wet dog food. I thought she would love this, and I think most dogs would, but my dog is just too picky..

Great for Treats
By Katie on Feb 4, 2021
My dogs love these. I slice and dice these rolls into little cubes and use them as training treats. Works great and is way cheaper and healthier than buying training treats and the dogs go nuts for it. Love that is comes in different flavors to give them variety.

Good product
By Duffy on Dec 31, 2020
I bought both the beef and chicken flavored rolls for the dogs to replace canned food. The dogs love it, it is now their soft food to add to their kibble, they get their pills wrapped in this and it is so easy to keep. After opening the roll, the roll is kept in the fridge and can be stored in the freezer until ready for use. Less waste than cans, and the dogs look forward to it.

Quality product, A Big Hit!
By TraceyCFla on Jan 5, 2021
My brother's 2 retired greyhounds only receive quality food and treats, they tend to have sensitive tummies. Santa's helper needed to find stocking stuffers, and his former hounds loved the Red Barn Choppers, so I got them the Beef Rolls and the Choppers. These are such a big hit, they are definitely on the wishlist for next year!

Too hard to use
By Hodelilbit on Jan 10, 2021
I use this roll for giving my dogs their meds for the day. I was using a different brand but it’s no longer available that was perfect for wrapping the meds. This one it breaks up and dose not stick together to wrap around the med. I will keep looking for a roll that will work for what I need it for.

Guranteed!
By Terry on Feb 10, 2021
Every dog in the land comes when they smell this great roll. Terrific training tool for all dogs but especially stubborn ones not usually food driven. (My beautiful stubborn Shiba Inu).
