Does the banister attachment work for metal railing? The rails are 1in by 1 in.

For this gate to work properly, the banister must be between 2-4 inches in diameter.

In order to walk through, does it slide open or swing open. And what is the size of the opening?

This gate fully swings open. The easy latch handle easily allows you to squeeze and open the gate. It expands to fit openings between 29 to 43-inches wide so the size of the opening would depend on the the distance between where the gate is placed.

Top of Stairs Perfect!

Keeps the dogs in living room and prevent them from bum rushing the front door! Secondarily, our mother is in a wheelchair so it is stair safety for her, too!

I installed this gate at the top of stairs with two uneven sides walls and baseboards. That led to an angle for supports and gate. It still was easy to install and

I must say after reading previous reviews I was a bit skeptical of this gate but have been pleasantly surprised over the last month of using it. Installation was

I must say after reading previous reviews I was a bit skeptical of this gate but have been pleasantly surprised over the last month of using it. Installation was easy, just make sure you read the instructions thoroughly to decide which combination of hardware to use. I live in an old farm house and nothing is standard as far as sizing goes so I needed the option of adjustable straps for the bannister. I'm giving it 4 stars because the locking mechanism could be improved. If you aren't going to open and shut it more than a few times a day then this would be the right fit. We did have to use longer deck screws than the ones provided because the plaster on our wall was weak but other than that I have no complaints.

Not safe - difficult to install

We have had the gate for 6 months. This gate does not secure to width so extremely unsafe and we have had several pinched fingers and accidents because of this

We have had the gate for 6 months. This gate does not secure to width so extremely unsafe and we have had several pinched fingers and accidents because of this. It is extremely difficult to install. The latch is flimsy and difficult to work.
