I noticed a lot of breed specific foods. My dog is a multitude of breeds. Should I choose something close to his dominant breed or use the generic med 5+ food?

Answer by ChewyJul 03, 2019
For mixed breed dogs, it's recommended to feed them recipes that are based on their size rather than breed. This Size Health Nutrition Large Adult 5+ is for dogs over years between 56 to 90 pounds. The Size Health Nutrition Medium Adult is for dogs over 12 months between 21 to 55 pounds.

Pros: Appropriately sized kibble for medium/large staffy. Healthy and regular poops. 30-lb. bag lasts about two months. Cons: Gradual negative changes in my girl's health that became apparent after 4 months. Weight loss. Lethargy. Her fur is dull and has begun to shed noticeably even though it's nearly winter. She has developed dry skin and itchy bumps in some areas that I assumed were bug bites, but the mosquitoes have been gone for weeks. Her ears and feet have also been extra itchy. It can only be from this food because everything else (shampoo, treats, etc.) has been the same for years. Lesson learned: If your dog becomes less excited about their food and only seems to eat when they're desperate, there's probably a reason!

Easily digestible.

My dog has been eating Royal Canin since a puppy. No other brand seems to be as digestible.

Well we are trying Royal Canin for the 1st time. It's been slow going but today he ate it all!!! I do wish it came in smaller size bags 30 lbs is a lot of dog food. But, then again for the price it is cost effective. I'm not purchasing dog food as frequently. So, as long as Red is enjoying RC every other month may be pretty good vs., every two weeks. Thank you
