About Royal Canin Weight Management for Dogs

Concerned about Your Dog’s Weight?

Maintaining a healthy weight can help support your dog’s overall health. When it comes to your dog’s weight, your veterinarian is the expert. You should always consult with your vet to find the best solutions and management options for your pet.

Assessing Your Dog’s Weight

There are 9 body condition scores used to assess a dog’s weight. Talk to your veterinarian about which matches your dog.

  1. LOOK – Check your dog’s body shape to see whether she is very thin, an ideal weight or overweight.
  2. FEEL – Severely defined ribs and waist may mean your dog is very thin. Ribs easily felt but not seen, with an obvious weight, may mean she is an ideal weight. If you cannot her feel ribs and her waist is absent, your dog may be obese.
  3. WEIGH – Work with your veterinarian to identify your dog’s weight and body condition score to help your vet determine your dog’s nutritional needs.

she loves it and it’s working

10 year old Mia’s weight was up 15% over time and it was impacting her energy and health. We slowly switched to RC and she loves it. Her weight is inching lower and she couldn’t be happier. Mia thanks you RC.

Me not fat, me just fluffy

No Maisie, you're fat. My 30 lb JRT just started this dog food and seems to like it. Hope it helps her to lose weight and reduce some high lab values as well. Big "Thank You" to the Chewy Vet for helping me figure out how much to feed of both the dry and wet food.

Great Weight Management Food

I use this to seal small treats into a Kong for my Pom/Bichon pups. They love it and it is much less fattening than the peanut butter I was previously using.

Over-feeding my Chihuahua

The vet recommended this food for my slightly overweight chihuahua, Caesar. Apparently, I was over feeding him, so he got kinda plumpy. I decided to try 3 different diet foods - carefully sticking to the feeding measurements & regiment. But Caesar became a different dog. Instead of playful & cuddly - he was anxious, whiny, and was desperately looking x food. To the point that he was attacking garbage bins & stealing food from the table & kitchen counters. It was like watching ‘Chihuahua parkour’! Entertaining, but worrisome. I thought it would only last a few weeks but he continued this behavior for month. I did want him to lose weight, but not to “feel” like I was starving him. Especially since I had been my fault that he was overweight to begin with. I discussed these issues with my vet and she recommended the Royal Canaan are satiety line of food. Caesar likes the food. I tamale sure to follow the advised measurements - & I feed him a combination of dried and wet food, two times a day. Initially, he continued to seek out food. However, within a week he stopped. I think Caesar continued to seek food as a psychosomatic response. He wasn’t really hungry, but since he had been doing it for so long, he felt he must continue the behavior. Within a year Cesar lost 5 pounds. That is huge. Considering he is a small dog. Most definitely would recommend this food!
