About Royal Canin Kidney Health for Cats

Concerned about Your Cat’s Kidney Health?

The healthy functioning of your cat’s kidneys is essential to them living a healthy life. Their kidneys serve as a filtering system that helps remove toxins and waste from blood. You should always work with your veterinarian to monitor your cat’s kidney health.

Support Your Cat’s Quality of Life Through Kidney Health Challenges

Feed a Specific Renal Diet

Your veterinarian can recommend the right diet to support your cat’s kidney function.

Encourage Drinking Water

Make sure that your cat always has fresh and clean water available. Offering them moist food can also support hydration.

Stimulate Your Cat’s Appetite

Offer your cat a nutritional option with different taste, smell, and texture to help ensure food intake, especially for pets with a poor appetite.

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a formula that includes:

Digestive Support

A combination of highly digestible proteins, balanced fibers, prebiotics and EPA + DHA to support digestive health.

Antioxidant Complex

Enriched with a blend of antioxidants to promote tissue and cellular health.

Kidney Support

Modified phosphorous and protein to support kidney function.

Adapted Energy

Adapted energy content to reduce meal volume and help compensate for a decreased appetite.

Add Variety and Remember to Set Autoship

Offering a range of aromas and textures can help ensure palatability and adequate food intake. Also, remember to set Autoship to make sure that your cat always has their veterinarian’s recommended nutrition.

Other companies make you buy amounts like you’re hoarding for the upcoming zombie apocalypse. Our doctor did not give a good prognosis for my little sweetie, so I needed to buy smaller amounts so I wouldn’t be crying over a mountain of unopened cans when she finally passed. She’s hung on like trouper and I’m super proud, but I still buy the smaller amounts because I don’t want to jinx it. She has never tired of the flavors she finally settled on from the samplers. T and D are her faves. They’ve made it a bit easier for parents of pets with special needs to source as nutritional a food as you can get from a can with room for variety and a measure of affordability. I appreciate that.

My cat has both advanced kidney disease and ibd. On top of that he completely refuses to eat dry food in his older age and is extremely picky. Before this, all I could get him to eat was fancy feast which would cause chronic diarrhea outside of the litter box. We originally bought a sample of this from our vet veterinarian, but I was hesitant to put him on this food because of how expensive it is I found a case of it locally on the marketplace and lo and behold. He absolutely loved it and didn’t have any accidents. His stool is much more formed on this food. The fact that I don’t have to scrub my carpets multiple times a day from accidents due to digestive upset is incredible and I can’t believe we have found a food that is both friendly to his kidneys as well as his inflammatory bowel disease I removed one star simply because this food is expensive for our family. With real human kiddos to feed this is a stretch for us. We feel as though we don’t have any other options at this point.

Chewy needs to replace its delivery contractor. I gave them a one star review on their site. But they don't give customers an opportunity to describe the opinion behind the review, do I'm doing it here. They have left Chewy deliveries by the garage side door (no shelter), the garden slider (no shelter), and finally up against the garden gate. The outside of the gate. Where no one can see a package from the house or garden. It could have lingered there for days in the winter rain if I hadn't looked in the cupboard and said, "We're almost out of cat food. I wonder when our next Chewy shipment will show up." Stormfur is appalled.

Kiki loves it. After rejecting Science Diet renal prescription food, we tried this prescription with our 14-year old little lady and she gobbles it down, and her health as taken a BIG uptick since being diagnosed a few months ago with Stage 3 kidney failure.

Unfortunately I had to euthanize Boo on December 30 so I no longer need the Kidney support food. The other items I ordered for his care arrived on 12/22 or 23. Why did it take so long for the food to arrive? I’m donating it to a local rescue.

We're in an ongoing struggle to find food that our very sick cat will eat. I'm not sure this is the winner. The consistency seems better than pate; however, none of our cats (sick or healthy) like the taste and will eat it only after they realize this is it. The Chewy staff have been fantastic throughout our cat's illness and in helping us find something he likes to eat.

The price seems higher than Hills but if you calculate the price per calories it's not. The higher calories is great because my boy doesn't have to eat such a massive amount of food to get the calories he needs. He transitioned well to this one, he didn't get nauseated like with the other ones. He tolerated the Purina but lost interest in the taste. He seems well on it, maybe a little better energy and playing more often again. He's maintained his weight well with this one. He's chugging less water so maybe things are more stabilized, hopefully we get good lab results next time.

My cat is very fussy about what food he will eat, especially when it comes to prescription type food. I am glad Canin offered chopped version of the wet good. I wish in came in a minced version which I know he would enjoy more, but I’m grateful he will at least eat the chopped version.

My CKD cat doesn’t get excited about the foods she’s allowed to eat anymore, but she will reliably finish this one. No enthusiasm, just steady eating, which is a win for a picky kidney cat. Out of all the renal options we’ve tried, this is one of the few that consistently works.
