Holding the paw firmly, trip the tip of the nail with a single stroke. Be careful to stop short of the quick, the blood vessel inside the nail. If the dog's nails are very long, trim a small amount. Repeat every 7 - 10 days until nails are at desired length. Monthly trimming should be sufficient thereafter.
Be sure to accustom your dog to having its nails trimmed at an early age to make the experience an enjoyable one and increase the bond between you and you dog. It is important to your dog's well-being to keep the nails properly trimmed.
Poor design. I would not waste my money on this. Even by adjusting the screws it still does not line up to cut clean.
Great nail cutters

This nail trimmer is what I started out with years ago. It gets the nails that have curled under. I really like this nail cutter.
HUNK OF JUNK
on Jan 31, 2021
I had high hopes for this item and boy was I let down. It broke on my first session. The blade came off track causing the whole mechanism to jam. My dog is pretty good with nail trims but this was stressful for the both of us. I favor guillotine type clippers and have used them prior. I've had poorly made ones but none as bad as this.
Not great quality

These looked high quality from the photos, but they are far too small and not durable enough for my dogs’ nails. I wish I would have read other reviews first.
Not Very Good
on Dec 23, 2020
This nail trimmer is not very good. It does not reach the nail of a small dog when trying to clip the nail. The hole is too far from the edge.
Dull and chipped blade

When I got the product it was dull and chipped, it barley cut the dog’s nail and even made it worse
Best Kind of Nail Trimmers

My Veterinarian's office uses this type to clip my dogs' nails. It seems so much less traumatic for them and he is able to clip them so quickly. It doesn't twist or put much pressure on the nail, preventing cracking also. There is no safety guard on them, so you must be careful. However, I was finally able to give my poor baby (a toy poodle) a much-needed trim. He wasn't happy, but I finally got it done.
Works pretty well

The clippers cut the nail well but it’s a little tricky getting the nail into the circle when you have a fidgety pup. The thumb nail or thicker nail on the end is the most tricky to maneuver it inside the circle without pressing against the rest of the foot. I found that nail scissors were easier to manage.

I had a similar one for 15 years ... and could not find a replacement. I purchased the other conventional trimmers but they just did not work for me. This trimmer is very sharp and contoured perfectly for large and medium dogs ... cuts clean - no splintering.
Great nail clippers nice and sharp.

These are really great. Very sharp. Had an old pair and didnt realize how dull it was until these came. Clipped right through my chihuahuas overgrown nails.
