About This Item

Details

  • The plastic mesh helps keep biting flies (deer, horse and horn) from penetrating the boots.
  • The design stops botfly eggs from being laid.
  • Helps reduce stress on your horse, which ultimately can help reduce leg fatigue and hoof cracks from constant stomping.
  • Greatly reduces the risk of spreading disease.
  • The mesh provides plenty of air flow, which is especially comfortable for wounds.

I have a 16.2 thoroughbred, does this run large? Unsure if I should buy medium or large

Answer by ChewyAug 03, 2021
For the best fit, it is recommended to measure the horse's leg and compare the measurements to the sizing chart.

Does the large fit draft feet? I already have a size large but they don’t look big enough.

Answer by ChewyDec 24, 2021
To ensure the right fit we recommend measuring you draft. The sizing chart is located under the size tab on the product page.

Can you put 2 sets together to fit a draft?

Answer by ChewyMay 06, 2023
It is not recommended to combine these products. To ensure proper fit, be sure to measure your draft's legs before comparing them to the complete sizing chart located on the product page.

Are they washable?

Answer by ChewyAug 21, 2025
The legging should only be washed by hand with warm water and a mild detergent like dawn.

A gal at my barn recommended these to me after seeing how my horse absolutely destroyed another brand of fly boots within a day. I’ve had these Shoefly boots on her every day for a few months now and they are still in fantastic shape. I will only buy these from now on!

The horses have been wearing these a little over a week now. Too soon to tell how long they will last, but I hope it’s awhile given the cost, they are not cheap. The horses adapted to them pretty quick, and no one has tried to pull them off. It’s been a very hot & fly filled summer so far, and hopefully this will help reduce the leg stomping and what comes along with that. I took a guess and ordered the medium for the tubby boys and they fit perfect. The PasoFino got a size small and the donkey got the yearling/donkey size. After seeing the size of the small I knew the medium would fit all of the other horses I care for, as the large would’ve been way too big.

I have bought these before and they usually last 1 pair a summer. I'm not sure if the materials are cheaper or what because they lasted me less than 1 month. The black velcro tab ripped off all 4 boots and then they don't stay on. I am disappointed especially for how much they cost.

These were recommended to me and they did keep flies off my mini donkey. But, after a couple of months they started sagging and wrinkling, and ultimately carved a sore into my donkey' leg. So off they came and we're just using SWAT now. For the cost of these leg protectors, they should keep their shape.

Three years ago, I purchased sets for my full time pasture horses and they lasted for 2 years. Just caved and purchased a new set for my gelding after trying other brands and these already show wear in the mesh and seams. They stay on, but I'm extremely disappointed in the material for the cost. Definitely started using cheaper materials. Would not recommend.

I've bought these boots in the past, and they have never made it through 2 seasons without the plastic supports bending and causing issues. I was willing to accept this - and accept that I would need to replace the boots every 2 years, but these boots are only 1 month old, and they are already breaking down. Yes, this year the flies are notably worse than prior years, but still, for the price, I would have hoped they made it through at least one season.

This is the first set of fly boots that I have ever bought that truly fit without having to compensate by tightening the Velcro. I bought small and that works for my cob and a somewhat bigger horse. So far, I am very happy with them.

My poor horse ended up with Scratches, and the flies were all over the open wounds. My vet recommended these boots. By the time he came back to check on the wounds a couple days later, he couldn't believe how well they were healing. I even ordered a second pair so Destiny can always wear a clean set during fly season. They're so easy to put on and they don't bother my horse at all.

Make your horse happy!

These fly boots have really made a difference for my horse. He is very sensitive to the flies and stomps like crazy to evict them. He wears them both in his stall

These fly boots have really made a difference for my horse. He is very sensitive to the flies and stomps like crazy to evict them. He wears them both in his stall and while turned out. So far they have remained in place and have survived his frequent rolling in the pasture. If you want a happy horse, I highly recommend!

Love how striking the orange is on my bay beauty of a thoroughbred. I did in fact measure and ordered the mediums based on the size chart which were almost perfect, though sometimes one or two slide around a little (but don’t cause rubbing). I ordered a size small afterwards just to compare, but they were too small around her fetlock. So thanks to Chewy’s amazing return policy, I got a refund no problem and they actually told me to donate the size small! How kind of them. I love supporting this company! Also should note, she walked around a little silly (high stepping) the first handful of times she wore them as she got used to the sensation but now has no problem with them. Highly recommend! Velcro is very strong!
