Feeding Instructions

Weigh the amount of forage provided to each horse to ensure you are feeding the proper amount. This is especially important with baled and compressed forage since similar volumes of forage (a flake for example) vary in weight.

Cut the bands on compressed bales 8 to 10 hours before feeding to allow the bale to expand to avoid overfeeding.

Never feed moldy or insect infested forage to horses.

Always provide free-access to fresh, clean water.

Transition Instructions

Gradually replace existing hay with Standlee Forage over a 7-10 day period. Replace existing hay on a 1 to 1 basis with Standlee Forage.

    High quality hay

    By on

Where I live in Tennessee, none of our farmers grow alfalfa. I have always felt that my quarter horses look, feel, and perform better eating at least some alfalfa. The Standlee Alfalfa is a very high quality hay so you don't have to feed a lot of it. I supplement my grass hay with about 5 pounds a day of this hay and it has been great. Your horse will gobble this down, so start by giving just a small amount. While this is not a cheap hay, Chewy's price is very fair so I've scheduled monthly shipments.

    Alfalfa grab and go

    By on

This is not a 50 lb bale although it states 50 lbs it is more like 25lbs. I purchase these all the time from my local feed stores and I was extremely disappointed when receiving this and seeing how they skimped on the size and weight of this hay bale. I guess it could of been a one time thing but I doubt it. It was strapped and perfectly bales just really small.

    Waste of money

    By on

I was very excited seeing these on auto delivery and read the reviews which were mixed, but was giving the benefit of doubt. I opened it and allowed it to puff out finding it was 95% hard coarse stems! Our Senior gelding made it bedding. Super disappointing waste of money I can't return. Boo Standlee

    Very, very dusty!

    By on

The bale was so extremely dusty, I had to soak it in water before I fed it. It really caused a problem, since it was -8* the first night I started feeding it. (Not real fun getting your hands wet when it’s that cold!) My Arabian is 28, and he has dental issues which makes it hard for him to chew, but this was easy for him to eat, and as picky as he is about his hay, he did really like it.

    Convenient and good quality

    By on

I love the Standlee products as it is so when I started using this as an afternoon lunch for my Drafts, I was very pleased. Especially since after I purchased a bale of alfalfa from a local farm and it was all sticks and very few leaves. This is full of leaves and is chopped to a size my seniors can eat easily. NOTE: Is IS dry and dusty. The flakes come apart easily and hard to keep whole so I use a large bucket, break it up, and feed per weight versus by "flake". - I have this on autoship since they go through a bale every week or so.

High quality alfalfa hay my horses love it!

    By on

The hay was delivered on time as Chewy promised. Looks and smells great and my horses love it. Some of the hay is short chopped with alfalfa leaves, perfect for my 30 year old Thoroughbred mare with tooth loss.

    Bright green!

    By on

Seems like great quality alfalfa, super green, my horse loves it. It is a little dusty so if you have a sensitive horse, you may want to wet it.

    Good Stuff!

    By on

I add a handful of this alfalfa to 3 large flakes of coastal hay. My horse always digs through the coastal to get to the alfalfa first. Seems to be very good quality for a very good price.
