Made with 98% responsibly sourced meat, organs, and bone, our Freeze-Dried Cat Morsels deliver the nutrition cats crave in a form they instinctively recognize. As obligate carnivores, cats thrive on raw animal-based nutrition — and we lean into that philosophy with simple, purposeful ingredients and transparent quality you can trust.

How finely are the bones ground? Right now my cats eat frozen raw turkey with a 3/16th grind, and I siill have to pick out the larger bone chunks. Thanks.

Answer by ChewyNov 14, 2019
Stella & Chewy's use a 3/16” grind plate. The bone is safe and essential, as well as a normal part of a raw diet. As long as the product is never cooked, heated, or microwaved, it’s completely safe.

Where are the vitamins in your products sourced from and are they synthetic?

Answer by ChewyMar 12, 2020
The manufacturer does use supplementation in their products. Some vitamins are synthetic and the minerals are chelated. The supplementation is specially formulated for their recipes and is used minimally in the products to ensure that pets always have complete and balanced nutrition. All of the vitamins and minerals used are from the US and Western Europe, with taurine from Japan. The individual ingredients used to create each supplement is proprietary.

How long can this be left out if it is NOT rehydrated? Thanks!

Answer by ChewySep 28, 2019
Although it is fine to leave this out for your pet to graze on during the day, keep in mind that it will be exposed to bacteria so it may spoil and become stale the longer it's left out. Therefore, we recommend you dispose of any uneaten food in your pets bowl if it's been out for more than 8 hours.

My cat likes the turkey flavor. I usually rehydrate some of this and mix it with a canned food or some kibble and she gobbles it up. We started with only Stell & Chewy, but at some point she started being picky about eating it on its own. She's a bit of a picky eater so this wasn't a shock. It's also more affordable to mix with another food so we don't mind. Big complaint: the food is pretty low-calorie, and I think the serving suggestion is wrong. When we were her this food exclusively and according to the serving recommendations, our kitty (already skinny) started losing weight pretty rapidly. I was confused so I did a little test: - the calorie content listed on the package is 149 calories/ 1oz (dry). - I measure out 1oz food with a baking scale, and this was approximately 3/4 cup (without packing the food in, but also full to the brim and breaking up the pieces somewhat so they fit into the measuring cup better). - Back of package recommends 1/2 cup/day for an 8lb cat. Combining this info, if the calorie content listed is correct, it seems like Stella & Chewy is recommending LESS THAN 149 calories/day for an 8lb cat? For a healthy-weight spayed adult cat, this goes against most calorie recommendations out there. It should be minimum like 200 calories, based on most cat caloric need calculators. TL;DR the food is fine but you probably need to feed your cat a lot more than it says you do on the package. This particularly annoys me because it makes the food *seem* more cost-effective than it is. If you only need half a cup a day for your cat, it's not so expensive. But in order to meet our cat's calorie needs we would need to feed her close to a cup.

Ferrets enjoy having "soup" which is essentially ground up food with water added. This food is optimal for this - both in that it is freeze dried raw whole prey (so it can be left out a few hours when wet without concern), and that its texture works particularly well for mixing. Tip: put a little less of this food at a time in the blender when grinding it up because it is a softer texture compared to (for example) the chicken. For my ferrets, this is their favorite Stella and Chewy's "flavor" for soup. It's important to have at least a few different types of prey, and this is a good one to include.

I give these to my two boys without rehydrating them since I’m hoping they’ll chew them and it’ll help with their gingivitis. I leave a bowl out as treats and they both eat them, so I’ll call this a win and keep buying them.

We switched our 13 year old cat to this after years of IBD issues. It cut her troubles down considerably! Probably saved her life, honestly. As she aged she could no longer tolerate eating raw, she was having a lot of GI issues and we had to find a limited ingredient canned food that she could tolerate. But it helped get her to 23!
