Questions & Answers

6 Customer Questions

What is the difference between salmon/whitefish and salmon meal/whitefish meal?
Answer by ChewyFeb 22, 2022
Salmon or whitefish meal are protein rich ingredients. They are created by drying raw whitefish or salmon to remove most of the moisture. Supreme Source recipes use whitefish or salmon meal because they contain much larger quantities of protein per ounce than raw whitefish or salmon alone. Protein is an essential part of a healthy diet for pets. It helps build and repair muscles and tissues, as well as creating essential hormones and enzymes that are needed for normal function.

Why sunflower oil??

my chihuahua will not eat this.

I have a one year old long-hair chihuahua and his diet consists of kibble mixed with homemade dog food. I’ve tried several different types of kibble for him and even if he won’t eat some of them by itself, he will eat it all his kibble when mixed with his homemade food - except this one. He tried some of the kibble and since then has not eaten it. He won’t even touch the homemade food that’s mixed in with it. I’m not sure if it’s because of the flavor but I know that my dog does not approve of this one.

Extremely oily and hard

My dog already eats S&C. He generally gets the raw coated baked kibble so I figured this wouldn’t be too much of a change, however, this kibble is incredibly oily and the pieces are super hard. I understand that this kibble is probably extruded so a little oil coating is normal, but not to this extent. That being said, there is no sign of the raw coating. not sure if it’s just soaked in oil. We just opened this bag. If my dog’s tummy can’t transition easily I’ll be making a return. So disappointing. See photos.

Great food for my dog

My dog has an autoimmune disease and had to go to a limited diet. My dog loves this food and has done wonders for her skin issues. For anyone complaining about it being hard, it is kibble, most dogs don't chew their food anyways so not sure what the complaint is. Plus, the size of the kibble is tiny so it's actually perfect for any breed.

No grains or legumes - finally!

After trying to get my dogs off of grain free (and legume filled) foods at the recommendation of our vet, we tried many different recipes. My dogs got itchy with all of the grain options out there, oatmeal, millet, ancient grains and otherwise. Finally landed on this grain free and legume free option from Stella and Chewy's we have been through several bags now and no itching! Their ears are not getting yeasty like they were on the grain foods. Its a total hit. So happy to have found this food, and hope they never stop making it! Legume and grain free is hard to find without going all raw.

Success at last!

Zeke has never been a fan of dry food until we found Stella & Chewy dog food. He eats chicken in the morning and dry food in the evening. This is the first time in eight years that his evening food is all gone by bedtime!!!

Kibble size

Wanted to like this food, but the size of the kibble is too small for a large breed dog. Don’t need him aspirating his food.

Collie approved

Switched to this after the other Stella’s fish was out of stock. Dogs seem to like this better.

She loves it!

Recently transitioned from Stella and Chewy’s Raw coated kibble puppy - chicken. My pup would frequently graze over her food with the chicken flavor but now with the wild red ocean recipe she goes crazy when I grab her food bowl and devours the food!! Can’t recommend enough! I saw great ingredients like salmon oil which is great for her coat! I was a little concerned when I started to transition her food because she has a sensitive stomach. I mixed it in with previous puppy food for about a week and she was good to go! No upset tummy!

Dogs wouldn't eat it

My dogs like Stella and Chewys freeze dried dog food but will not eat the kibble whatsoever. I bought the ocean recipe kibble a while back thinking my dogs might like it, but they just sniffed it and walked away. The only kibble they will eat is Royal Canine. I''m sure its a good kibble and I trust the brand for a good quality dog food but I can't get them to be interested in it.
