will this install in a wall and what adapters are needed for wall installation

Answer by ElizabethJan 30, 2026
You need to buy one of the adaptor kits from the manufacturer to install this in anything but a door.

Yes, my indoor/outdoor cat is microchipped, but he also wears a collar and ID tag 24/7. Could I have him also wear your provided tag that will allow him inside and outside, as well as me programming his microchip? Or does it have to be one or the other?

Answer by ElizabethJan 30, 2026
It works on both. We have one with a microchip programed in and the other with a tag on her collar.

Can this door be programmed to let one cat out but keep the others in?

Answer by ChewyAug 28, 2018
Program your cat's microchip at the touch of a button. You cat's microchip is then permanently stored in memory. The cat flap remains locked for cats that are not programmed in the system and wildlife.

How is the intruder mode different? I thought the door stays locked unless unlocked when pet passes through. We have a raccoon problem, so, so this is a needed feature!

Answer by ChewyJun 25, 2021
Once programmed, the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door will only allow entry for your pet(s), denying access to intruder animals. The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door also has a number of custom modes to accommodate less common requirements. Select Custom Mode 5 to provide further protection against intruder animals. This mode registers the presence of an intruder trying to enter the house and closes the outer lock to prevent the door being pulled open or outwards. This mode is only needed in very rare cases of very persistent and very dexterous intruder animals.

We bought this door from the manufacturer with some of the accessories for an older sick stray we had been feeding for a couple of years. It was easy to train him to use it. Two tips. First code the chip to the door before you put it in the cat. (Of course the chip must be in their neck) Much easier!! Second, to train put the cat inside feed them and demonstrate that the door opens to let them leave. After a few days of feeding them inside, put a bowl of food that can be seen through the door and the cat will come in (after a few attempts- the clicking of the door lock freaks them out at first). The second stray watched the first cat and tried coming in several times. We put one of the collar tags you can buy on her and she moved in just before the big storm. They like to look before they come in or go out so being clear is excellent.

I do not remember in your description, that it could only be used on a door. My other cat door was in the wall and I wanted to replace it with Microchip so only my pets could come into the house. I can only get it to set one way. It completely locks on both sides or will allow them to go out. Any animal can come into the house because it does not lock them out. I have installed the door and therefore can not return it. I spent money and I am not getting what I need. So disappointing.

This is a great pet door and I wish it worked with my pets' microchips. Unfortunately, their vet implants the chip in their backs instead of their necks, so the door won't open for them. I can leave it in always open mode, and still use the curfew, but then other animals will still be able to come in at night.

Purchased to keep our new kitten out of the catio (he can squeeze through), but let the others have access. So we installed it backwards in a protected location. Chose this over a cat door because of the larger opening. Pretty happy to have this technology available. - Before you touch any buttons (in particular you don't want to press the clock, curfew lock, or curfew unlock buttons), DOWNLOAD FULL INSTRUCTIONS from the website. The hard copy manual provided has very basic instructions in about 20 different languages. Does not come with the 4 C batteries needed.

It’s a really smart door where you don’t have to do anything other than have your pet pass through the doorway and it learns its implanted microchip number. It took two people to install it in a hollow interior door, but it’s working great and my cat is finally figuring it out. I’m using it to keep my dogs from going into a room where the cats have food. The fact that any animal can exit one way tripped me up a little bit and I had to turn the door around after installing it but now it’s great.

I love this idea but the microchip sensor is not sensitive enough. My cat has to already be in it to get the sensor to trigger. Even a setting to have it open for in AND out requires the microchip sensor to release the latch, so i tape it down so cats can come inside. And after only a few months, it has reset itself randomly losing the set times a few times. At this price, I'd expect better.

A really a small door

Too small. Should not be listed as " small dog" door. For cats or a tiny chihuahua? No way my 15 pound chihuahua mix will fit.

Microchip cat door that works!

This was the third door I tried. It works with any length of microchip number and was very easy to program. I trained my cay within 10 minutes using a few treats
