Installation Option 1: Place the Tetratec Deep Water aquarium air pump on a surface lower than the water level of the aquarium or on the floor. To avoid damage from accidentally spilled water, do not place the air pump directly below the aquarium. Important: Always use a Whisper Check Valve(not included) in the airline between the air pump and the aquarium. In the event of a power failure, or when removing filters from the aquarium, the Check Valve will help prevent water from siphoning into the pump.
Installation Option 2: Place the Tetratec Deep Water aquarium air pump on a shelf at least 12 inches higher than the water level of the aquarium, but not directly above the aquarium. The shelf should have a raise edge to prevent the air pump from sliding off.
Saltwater aquariums: Place the air pump on a shelf as described in option 2, and use a Whisper Check Valve (not included).
Attach one end of airline tubing to air outlet(s) on your Tetratec Deep Water air pump. Attach other end of airline tubing to filter(s), airstone(s), or air operated ornament(s) (not included). Pump is now ready to plug in. Plug into 110/120V Ac outlet only. Be sure to allow for a "Drip Loop" (part of the cord that dips below outlet receptacle or connector). The "Drip Loop" prevents water from running into outlet. Pump reaches normal operating efficiency after several hours.
Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent on the outside of the pump. Pump mechanism never needs oil.
Purchased this in an attempt to find a quiet air pump to replace our ailing Fuval pump for our 120 gallon tank. We found it was even louder than the dying old pump it replaced. I do not recommend this if you are looking for a quiet air pump.
Just hooked up yesterday. Impressed with how quiet the pump is. Adequate air for two 16" air lift tubes (PVC 3/4"). So far very satisfied with performance. It's replacing a whisper pump I bought 30 years ago. I'm hoping for some longevity in service. Only time will tell.
Best air pump I've had in last 20 yrs. Hope it last.
So far so good. Haven’t had it that long yet. Pumps out a lot of air and is very quiet. I’m happy with the purchase.
This Tetra model used to be the best pump on the market, and would last 3 years or more before it needed a rebuild. Back then, a rebuild fixed it for quite a while. Now the pump loses pressure after less than 8 months, and a rebuild does not restore it!!! The pump parts look the same, but it suffers from 'looks like but doesn't work like' syndrome of overseas manufacture.
I got this for a 150gl pond that is 2' deep. It powers an air stone that is about 2" long and 2" in diameter. The stone is pretty large in other words, and not very deep. Sure it puts out more aeration than the cheapo unit I had in there, but it's not like a waterfall by any means. If you really want to turn a lot of water I would recommend the 300gl version. It's a good pump, and it's quiet, just don't expect any miracles from it. It's not cheap either...at least it's quiet so if you use it in an aquarium indoors you'll be happy for that. I would not use it in a tank larger than 50-75 gallons. In my opinion it's way over-rated by the packaging. It also does not indicate lph or some other measurement of air flow, so you can't readily compare it to other aeration air pumps.
Strongest pump I've purchased, love it.....................................................................
This was my second purchase of this pump. First one lasted for years - and always very quiet. I use it for a 112 gallon aquarium to run several aerators in the tank. Never a problem with it! Highly recommend it!
The device works good for the first 2 weeks and then it wouldn't Pump 10 devices but it's doing 6 so I don't know advertises 10
I bought this after much research and reading reviews. I have multiple tanks and I'm tired of having multiple pumps (too many cords etc). It has lived up to all that I've read so I highly recommend it.
