Instructions
  • Installation Option 1: Place the Tetratec Deep Water aquarium air pump on a surface lower than the water level of the aquarium or on the floor. To avoid damage from accidentally spilled water, do not place the air pump directly below the aquarium. Important: Always use a Whisper Check Valve(not included) in the airline between the air pump and the aquarium. In the event of a power failure, or when removing filters from the aquarium, the Check Valve will help prevent water from siphoning into the pump.

  • Installation Option 2: Place the Tetratec Deep Water aquarium air pump on a shelf at least 12 inches higher than the water level of the aquarium, but not directly above the aquarium. The shelf should have a raise edge to prevent the air pump from sliding off.

  • Saltwater aquariums: Place the air pump on a shelf as described in option 2, and use a Whisper Check Valve (not included).

  • Attach one end of airline tubing to air outlet(s) on your Tetratec Deep Water air pump. Attach other end of airline tubing to filter(s), airstone(s), or air operated ornament(s) (not included). Pump is now ready to plug in. Plug into 110/120V Ac outlet only. Be sure to allow for a "Drip Loop" (part of the cord that dips below outlet receptacle or connector). The "Drip Loop" prevents water from running into outlet. Pump reaches normal operating efficiency after several hours.

  • Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent on the outside of the pump. Pump mechanism never needs oil.

Formerly Great pump, Now Lasts Less than 8 months

By NFCfan on Oct 1, 2021

This Tetra model used to be the best pump on the market, and would last 3 years or more before it needed a rebuild. Back then, a rebuild fixed it for quite a while. Now the pump loses pressure after less than 8 months, and a rebuild does not restore it!!! The pump parts look the same, but it suffers from 'looks like but doesn't work like' syndrome of overseas manufacture.

    Don't Expect Miracles

By PondGuy on Aug 11, 2021

I got this for a 150gl pond that is 2' deep. It powers an air stone that is about 2" long and 2" in diameter. The stone is pretty large in other words, and not very deep. Sure it puts out more aeration than the cheapo unit I had in there, but it's not like a waterfall by any means. If you really want to turn a lot of water I would recommend the 300gl version. It's a good pump, and it's quiet, just don't expect any miracles from it. It's not cheap either...at least it's quiet so if you use it in an aquarium indoors you'll be happy for that. I would not use it in a tank larger than 50-75 gallons. In my opinion it's way over-rated by the packaging. It also does not indicate lph or some other measurement I got this for a 150gl pond that is 2' deep. It powers an air stone that is about 2" long and 2" in diameter. Great Pump

By KITTYMOM on Jun 25, 2021

This was my second purchase of this pump. First one lasted for years - and always very quiet. I use it for a 112 gallon aquarium to run several aerators in the tank. Never a problem with it! Highly recommend it!

A must have for multiple Aquariums

By Evolving on Apr 5, 2021

I bought this after much research and reading reviews. I have multiple tanks and I'm tired of having multiple pumps (too many cords etc). It has lived up to all that I've read so I highly recommend it.

    Very quiet and good power

By Paul on Mar 2, 2021

I needed an air pump to power several stones. I did not have deep tanks, but thought since this would put air out at depth that is would do the job well. It does that and is really a whisper. Most air pumps have a strong and loud vibration.

    Powerful and dead quiet

By BBBassist on Feb 7, 2021

This is the second AP 150 I bought. This one will be used to power a large sponge filter in a bare 29g tank I'm setting up for a breeding pair of angels. I find them dead quiet and dependable.

pumps deeper than 8' at first

By Stripes on Jul 2, 2020

Worked as advertised for three years before became too weak to bubble to a depth of 8' and had to be replaced. Chewy does not carry the rubber rebuild kit.

Tetra Whisper 150 - Strong Pump

By FTurla on Mar 21, 2020

The Tetra Whisper 150 Air Pump is a decent value buy if you can buy the item below 20 dollars. It's strong air pressure pushing through using one outlet. You will need additional air tubing and branching hardware to access air flow to multiple locations. I use the pump sporadically and don't use it as a constantly on device. I don't know if the durability is reliable, since I have only had the item since Oct 2017. It works fine and I have had no problems. Purchasing this item at pricing above 30 dollars seems a bit too expensive if you are devoted to using the pump for aquariums 40 gallons or less in size, but it provides a good back up air pump if the you can get a better deal on it.
