Do I need to buy a check valve to use this? I’ve never used an air pump and tubing before so I just want to be sure before I order.

A check valve is always a good idea with an air pump. The check valve keeps the water from backing up into the air tubing and possibly into your pump. However, a check valve is not necessary for the tubing to work.

You get what you pay for I guess!

I've seen better hose but you get what you pay for I guess! This hose is extremely hard to use. It's too thick and the inside isn't big enough. It's impossible to

I've seen better hose but you get what you pay for I guess! This hose is extremely hard to use. It's too thick and the inside isn't big enough. It's impossible to use it unless you widen it with something first! You can't get it to go on to the air outlet on the pump or anything else. I would not suggest it to anyone!
