Gemstone Creek is not polished, it is a natural product. Underwater, it will appear as though there is some shine to them.

will this gemstone gravel work for kuhil loaches

Gemstone creek is safe and will not harm kuhli loaches. It may be better, if the loaches are a focus, to use a sand.

I have a beta and an African dwarf in a 20 g tank. Would this work for them?

This substrate is suitable for freshwater aquariums and brackish aquariums with proper buffering.

Grain size misrepresented

I was specifically looking for a natural substrate - gravel - that was NOT dyed or coated in acrylic. These two boxes could be checked with this product. But I was

I was specifically looking for a natural substrate - gravel - that was NOT dyed or coated in acrylic. These two boxes could be checked with this product. But I was also looking for something finer - coarser than sand but finer than pebbles. The product description specifically says "Each grain measures approximately 0.25-1.0 millimeters in size." When I received the product, I found that a more accurate description would be about 3-10mm. I was going to used this for a planted aquarium, but I really can't. I will have to find some other use for it.

Lots of ugly gravel mixed in

As someone else said, this gravel is about 60% nice smooth quartz-like gravel, and 40% ugly stuff. By ugly , I mean some of it looked like chipped concrete, and

As someone else said, this gravel is about 60% nice smooth quartz-like gravel, and 40% ugly stuff. By ugly , I mean some of it looked like chipped concrete, and some was white flaky stuff that I’m not even sure was gravel. Took me 2 weeks to pick through it. After all that, I found a 20 lb bag of Spectrastone Swift Creek at Meijer for $10 less. It has the same issues but it’s a little better. Maybe 75/25. But at least it’s cheaper.

the gravel was pretty clean and I didn't have too much trouble washing it so it wouldn't cause the tank to become cloudy.
