The best way to transition to a new food is to switch gradually over the course of 7-10 days. For example, make a mixture that contains 25% of the new food and 75% of the old food and feed that for three days. Then make it 50-50 for three more days, then 75% new food and 25% old food for three more days. If your cat seems comfortable with this progression, you can start feeding 100% new food. If at any time your pet starts vomiting, has loose stools, or appears constipated, slow the rate at which you are switching the food. If problems continue to occur, consult your veterinarian.
Haven't been using it for long but I've noticed some amazing differences. My cat ate fancy feast and friskies before, she never seemed full afterwards though. She'd throw up often and would steal food off plates! She has an allergy to fish and I did some digging and discovered that even the chicken flavor of the prior brands had fish listed under crude protein :(! She hasn't thrown up once eating this and has stopped stealing food entirely. I'm so happy this has real chicken
One of my cats has always had respiratory allergies, but she recently had a reaction to food and I have no idea what caused it. I searched and searched for a food that has very limited ingredients, including no gums, no veggies (including potatoes and peas), and no carrageen (along with the obvious no grain, soy, by products, etc). I found another food that meet that criteria, but she wouldn't eat it, so I decided to try tiki. The reason I didn't try it first is because of the price. I have a lot of cats and it's hard to swing these prices for food when I want them all to get good quality for. I decided to get the larger cans because they are less per ounce, but they don't refrigerate well. After a day in the fridge it doesn't look appealing anymore and she wasn't crazy about it and wouldn't eat it. I started freezing it in ice cube trays and defrosting it at every meal for her and she seems to like that. It's "fresh" when it defrosts. That's the only reason I took off a star, if you are selling a food in a 10 ounce can, it should hold up to at least one day in the fridge without looking like it was no good any more.
When I opened the can, it looked and smelled very appetizing, and I was tempted to try it myself! Unfortunately, my two indoor cats didn't agree and wouldn't touch it. I got it to introduce a moist food for a cat that is predisposed to bladder stones and is on medicated food of which he is tiring. This food was recommended on a website that listed foods for this condition. My dog doesn't like it either, but another cat will eat it. I plan to try it on my other three cats, too.
my cat has the beginning stages of renal disease and doesn't like the prescription food. I found Tiki Cat Luau and she loves it!! Two days ago, I opened a can and ANTS came pouring out like a horror movie!! I smashed them all, looked inside the can, and thought: huh, ok. I SHOULD HAVE dumped the can, because I came home from work yesterday and there were ants EVERYWHERE! There must have been ant eggs in the food. I am STILL killing ants, and have picked up ant traps. Understand, I did not have ants in my house prior to this. Chewy refunded my money, because they are awesome, but OMG I have never ever opened a can of pet food and had BUGS crawl out or hatch later. So far, I have not heard back from Tiki Cat. Ewwwww. I tried adding photos, but the site isn't uploading them.
My two kitties have been eating and loving this TIki Cat chicken for two years. They had very sensitive stomachs when we got them (rescued). From the batch that I ordered in December, they started having bouts of diarrhea and vomit. (They didn't have any problems in the last two years). The diarrhea would gradually go away when i added rice for a period and then weaned off. But when they were on the chicken alone again for a few days, the diarrhea would return. If something went wrong or it was a bad batch, our cats would still eat it because they literally eat anything (they grew up 6 months on the streets and will eat garbage and anything they can get their paws on). I had read in several reviews of other chicken wet food brands that other cats stopped eating the food recently because their cats noticed something different in it (when they used to eat it) My point is if there was something new or funny (bad chicken batch), my cats would still eat it. (Thus the stomach issues.) They have not gotten into any human food or garbage, they have fresh water everyday and we even went to the vet and had a stool sample analyzed. They found nothing wrong. The only thing we can assume here is that it is something about the food. Has anyone else had any issues recently with this Tiki Cat Chicken? We are just trying to do everything to stop our kitties from being sick :(
My cat pretty much eats everything but this one she struggled with. It smelled much better than most cat food I opened, almost like real chicken for humans. Unfortunately she couldn't care less and she lapped up most of the juice but struggled to finish all the pieces. Fortunately for me, it's good because she prefers a cheaper grain free food and this one is really pricey. Will not be buying again.
I bought this because I want to bring my indoor cats weight down a bit and read that this protein wet cat food would be a good addition to their diet. However none of my 3 inside cats touched it, I tried a few different times. I am also feeding some feral cats that I draped, neutered and spayed and they came regularly to my house to get their food and water and pretty much settled in my back and front yard. So I tried to feed it to them, but no one touched it, which was really surprising to me.
I was unable to find my cats' go-to canned food, Against the Grain, Chicken Polyhauaii Berry, so got this. My cats are 100% Team Chicken, so I'm very baffled why they won't eat this, since it's ONLY chicken, sunflower oil and supplements. I thought maybe it's too dry, but they'll happily eat poached chicken bits dry. Then I thought it might be the sunflower oil. But it's in their other food they love. Baffled and disappointed...but something is off that they can smell or taste.
I bought this as a healthy alternative to what I was feeding my cats. Since they won't eat or go near it, it was a complete waste of money.
I had high hopes for this product based on the ingredients and the look of the chicken but my house cat would consume the broth and leave the meat to sit all day.
