I have tried every senior feed available in my area and various combinations of high fat feeds with balancers, vitamins, beet pulp, oils, hay stretchers, rice bran, etc. Ultra GH was new on the market, so I decided to try it. Not only did the toplines fill out, but the dropping bellies came up. The "pellets" immediately break down with the addition of water, so fast feed mush/soup for those without many teeth or prone to choke. I also feed it to the show horses and really like the benefit of low carbs, high fat and gut support. Every 5-6 weeks I drive an hour and a half to a feed store that carries this feed to stock up. I could buy other senior feeds and low carb/high fat feeds closer to home, but this feed has been well worth the effort over the years. I don't buy it from Chewy because of the price, the boxes and the social aspect of the feed store.
This feed has gone up by TWENTY DOLLARS A BAG since I first purchased it in November!!! That is OUTRAGEOUS! I notice a majority of the other Tribute horse feeds have also gone up by fifteen dollars or more per bag! One type of their feed was over SEVENTY DOLLARS per bag! What horse owner can afford that when, if fed at even the low amount of 5 lbs per day, they would go through a bag in 10 days?? None of the other brands of feed have had this type of price increase.
Great feed! One of my favorites I have found to feed a variety of horses, but the price won’t stop going up! Started out 24 dollars to 27 and was okay with that but went to add extra to my auto ship and it is now 36. I feed 4 horses this feed so go through a lot every week. I’m not paying almost 40 bucks a bag so now trying to find something similar to switch. Really disappointed.
My horses do great on this, would have bought it from Chewy forever, however, will not pay $36+ per bag. I am going back to my local feed store to buy other options for half the price.
I had been feeding a variety of horse feeds, beet pulp, soy oil, and supplements in an effort to help my 20yr.old horse gain weight after an ulcer and illness. I have now switched him to Ultra GH and he is continuing to gain weight and enjoying his tasty meals at last.
My Arabian endurance horse is sensitive to alfalfa. Too much causes her to tie up in her back end. I’m happy to have an option to feed without alfalfa. And also for the gut support. Not 5 stars because of the large amount required to meet her full nutritional needs. She won’t eat that much grain. I feed about half recommended and top dress with a ration balancer.
We have a few older horses that are easy keepers and tend to get overweight if we don’t monitor their calorie intake. This is an excellent choice for them as it provides all the necessary nutrients to keep them fit and healthy!
