Questions & Answers

How does one gauge the correct dose with the syringe? Are there markings on the plunger to indicate how much is ejected? Also, is this safe for a puppy that's 9 weeks old?
Answer by ChewyNov 24, 2017
There are marking on the syringe to show the amount of cc's. The Vetoquinol Pro-Pectalin Anti-Diarrheal Oral Gel Dog & Cat Supplement is recommended for adult dogs and cats.

Can I give my dog pro-pectalin gel with meals, or does it have to be given a certain amount of time away from meals?
Answer by ChewyMay 12, 2018
You can give this before or after a meal, it just has to be administered orally every 8 hours or as directed by your vet.

Can this be used to stop vomiting also?
Answer by ChewyJun 13, 2018
The unique combination of ingredients in this supplement helps safely stop diarrhea, soothe irritated intestines and restore the normal balance of intestinal bacteria. It may not be effective towards vomiting.

Can I give this to my cat along with the probiotic capsule that I had purchased?
Answer by ChewyNov 01, 2017
It is not recommend to mix this product with probiotics, as this is a temporary supplement to aid in help resolve diarrhea caused by stress, antibiotic administration, change in diet or other simple, non-life threatening forms of diarrhea.

Didn't work for my cat's situation

I originally bought this because my cat has been having diarrhea but it didn't seem to work. But it turned out my cat most likely has cancer as I was told by her vet, so I won't say this product is bad or doesn't work, it just didn't work for my cat and her situation.

Kitten will NOT take this

I guess it's not the manufacturer's fault that my cat hates this stuff... but I can't recommend it regardless. I thought it was supposed to be flavored, but that does not help. I kind of can't blame my cat for that; this stuff does have a strong, sickly saccharine scent to it that even I find off-putting. Additionally, this stuff is SO STICKY, it all but ruins anything it touches! Which, given that my cat spits it out, ends up being a lot. Truly- my cat got it on my hardwood floor, and I tried to wipe it up with a damp paper towel immediately after. Nope. I had to scrape it up like dried paint.

Amazing Product!

For 3 years my 14 year old cat suffered from diarrhea of unknown cause and had been seeing recent weight loss. I had tests done, ultrasounds, and the veterinarians could not help me. I had changed her food to sensitive diet, added probiotics and even fiber to her diet, tried pumpkin purée, anything to help or add bulk to her stools, but nothing worked. This product has given her a new chance! I am so happy to write she is able have solid stools now, she is absorbing the nutrients of her food better and has been able to see some improvement in her weight and hair coat as well. I have not given it to her alone, I mix it in to her wet food twice a day and have seen amazing results. My cat has been given another chance, I had thought she wouldn’t be with us much longer, but am happy to write she is doing so much better. Thank you for this product! Please keep selling it!

This med does stop diarrhea

We have had a problem with cat food etc since dealing with Covid our cats have had problems with Diarrhea . Our cats eat only certain kind of food and almost everyone stores chewy other places are out of cat food well when your cats are 15 years old and try to change their diets it does not go well so at least this is helping. Took our cats to the vet and this is what we got .

Hard to use and too pasty

I purchased this for my cat. But trashed it after first use. It was too hard to dispense and hold in cats mouth at same time. I even had help by my husband. Then when cat did take the paste medication, he foamed at mouth after taking it. This product was not good choice for my cat. I will stick to the liquid form of medication for him. This was too pasty.

Your dog will thank you!

This was given to my boxer when he was very sick. He had pneumonia and with that came diarrhea and this stuff made him better over night! I asked my vet if him and his brother could have this daily and she said yes! I highly recommend this product if your looking for a good, easy probiotic for your pups! I swear by this stuff. Plus it doesn’t break the bank. I also like that it has the stopper on in, you just have to turn it all the way down to the bottom to start!

Gassy but good

This helped my dog SO MUCH!! I will say his farts have been very interesting from them but it does the job of helping fix his little belly. Only real down side is how much comes out when you’re trying to get it out of the actual tube but if you have an extra pair of hands it works well!

A must-have in every sensitive tummy toolbox!

Pro-Pectalin gel was recommended to me by my veterinarian for my sensitive little Yorkie with irritable bowel. Changes in her diet or environment can trigger a bout of colitis, or sometimes seemingly out of the blue, she'll become miserable with gas, a gurgly tummy, and softer than usual stool. In almost every case, Pro-Pectalin is our go-to tool. Within a day or two, this really helps soothe her digestive tract, and it's very effective at firming stool. It's a "must-have" on hand when we travel, and I even use it as a preventative whenever diet changes must be (very slowly) made. The "chicken flavor" must be tasty, because most of the time my dog licks it up enthusiastically. If not, it's pretty easy to push the toothpaste-like gel into the side of the dog's mouth, either on your finger or using the syringe. Good luck with your dog's tummy troubles--this really helps!

This works really well. Dog had diarrhea for two weeks and had tried other meds. Ordered this medication and it took care of the problem within 12 hours.

Paired it with another product ( photo attached )

Two years ago my German Shepherd went through the SAME exact situation with her tummy . $350+ ER bill I was given these type of products because she was literally peeing out of her butt every 30 mins to an hour . Fasting , pumpkin powder, bland diets, anti diarrhea, probiotic tablets DID NOT WORK this time around . For her, nothing was even being absorbed nutrient wise and was pure liquid to the point I couldn’t even use a bag to pick anything up . Literally within HOURS she was back to normal, though it took her almost 12 hours to form a “ normal “ stool, I could tell she was no longer uncomfortable. She didn’t have any accidents inside the house while I was sleeping. This IMMEDIATELY worked for her , I will always have a backup of these items no matter what ! Thank you CHEWY for having this available without a prescription and shipping it out so fast for my fur baby.
