pills are too big for a small dog

    By on

unfortunely we lost our dog to the disease but as far as the tablets go; they are way too large; our dog had very few teeth and couldn't chew them; dosing was difficult because he weighed 19 lbs. and therefor half the tablet wasn't enough. they crumbled easily as well, so dosing was a problem. In addition the vet told us it had way too much potassium in it for our dog. sorry I can't give a better review but feel the truth is for the best.

    Good so far!

I have a 17 yo boxer mix, about 70 lbs. He is on his 4th month of 2 tablets a day, in total renal failure. Basically he is turning water into...water. I manage a vet clinic so he is monitored often but so far on this product he has been taken off of his nausea meds and is having really good days. We had to flush his system out in clinic to get things stable right before starting this product. It was hard to give until I figured out that kraft singles really hide the smell. Also you can try EXTRA crunchy peanut butter. Most dogs can't put pills out of that. Just a few suggestions for those of you having trouble and blaming the product.. Some things aren't going to be easy to give. Get over it. I have a 17 yo boxer mix, about 70 lbs. He is on his 4th month of 2 tablets a day, in total renal failure. So far so good

My dog has only been on this for less than a month, but she is doing well. She is in stage 3 renal failure, and my vet suggested adding it to her other meds., as it was helping another dog in another city. The vet had hoped my dog would make it through the holidays and she is still going! She has not started any on the advance effects of renal failure. I do have to break this pill in 1/2 as it is huge!

My dog smells them and runs

    By on

I can't say if this would or would not help my chihuahua who is in early stage kidney disease. She wont be having this stuff and I cant blame her! These tablets are HUGE and the smell is very strong and unpleasant! I've tried crushing the dose and mixing it into her wet food but it doesn't fool her. Too bad. I was looking for a natural supplement and Vetri Science is a very good line. I've had great results from their Dev Core Pro Mobility. Any suggestions?

These help me maintain my senior dog's kidney function

    By on

I use these, a product called Tripsey, Dave's limited ingredient food..the one with low protein and low phosphorus, along with a good probiotic given 30 min to an hour in advance of feeding. My Annie's kidney values have improved a lot and are holding steady a year since she was diagnosed with stage 2 kidney failure. For all the people complaining that the product is too hard or their pet won't eat it...I crush them in a small bowl using a shot glass (like using a mortar and pestle). Then I add it to her food...never had a problem with her eating it. I also educated myself on cooking for dogs with renal failure. People sometimes want everything to be super convenient, ridiculously so. It's amazing what giving them a little extra time and effort can do to improve their health and extend their lives. That said, there's a huge difference between chronic and acute renal issues. I'm just grateful that with my girl getting her dental issues addressed (she's a dachshund from a puppy mill and her teeth were a constant problem, ended up having 22 pulled), supplements and a healthy diet have bought me more time with her. … more

Trying These for Our Dog with Renal Disease

    By on

I just started giving these to our senior male mixed breed terrier who suffers from renal disease/failure-so I will be doing a longer-term review after a few weeks. If it helps him to feel any better then I would consider these worth it.

    Have worked

    By on

My bichon was diagnosed with renal insufficieny 2 yrs ago. We tried these along with Dave's low protein, low phosphorus dog food and a probiotic. Happily, her last labs were all back to normal. She has no problems eating these tabs with food...I break them in half since they are scored. I will continue these tabs and recommend them....

    Dog won't eat these!

    By on

Got these for my dog that eats just about anything, but he won't eat these! Tried to grind them up and mix them in food to use them up and he won't eat the food if it's in there! Even half tab too big to shove down his throat (20 lb terrier). Complete waste of money!

    So far, so good

    By on

Previously I was using this product in a chewable form which my dog didn't like so I had to crumble it up on her food. I opted for these tablets because they're less expensive and hoped she would like them. I still have to break them in half and give one half each meal--morning and night--mixed in her food to get her to eat them, but she does.
