I have fed Victor Hi Pro before and for the most part my dogs did well on it. What I'd like to know is why it doesn't have any Glucosamine or Chondroitin in it for joints? Also I like to rotate proteins now and then. What food does Victor make that could be rotated with HI Pro Plus?
Answer by Valor • Oct 14, 2022
Hi-Pro is a multi-protein formula (beef, chicken, pork, and fish meals) so I’m not sure how well it would fit into a rotational protein schedule. If you want to rotate proteins you might check out Victor’s Select line which are single protein formulas. I personally have fed the Select Beef and liked it. For glucosamine I personally like supplementing with Cosequin or Dasuquin. I hope this helps!
How many cups of food are in each size bag?
Answer by • Aug 24, 2019
There's approximately 4 cups in every one pound of dry dog food. The 5-pound bag holds about 20 cups, the 15-pound bag holds about 60 cups, the 40-pound bag holds about 160 cups and the 50-pound bag holds about 200 cups.
Victor dog food is made in the USA but do they source their ingredients from the USA as well?
Answer by • Jan 20, 2018
Victor products are produced in the USA with 80% of all ingredients sourced within a 200-mile radius of the facility.
Is this non gmo sourced?
Answer by • Oct 15, 2018
Victor multi-grain recipes are made with GMO-free wholesome grains. All Victor recipes are free from corn, wheat, soy and gluten.
My puppy has been eating this food since before we got her - her breeder feeds it to the puppies. She is four months old now, and she still loves the food! In fact, she actually likes it more than some of her training treats, and we use it for most of the training we do. My other dog is jealous of this food! I did speak to one other parent from my puppy’s litter so sad that her puppy did not like the food so much, but we have had nothing but positive experiences. The kibbles are nice and small so that makes it easy to use for training as well. Sometimes I use a nail clipper to cut the kibbles in half when I do a lot of training (so as to keep calorie intake from being too high) but it’s not necessary.
Our breeder is excellent, and is well known for her beautiful and healthy red miniature poodle puppies. She pays attention to every detail and is trained as a nurse, so I trust her food choice, and it’s paid off!

Potentially unhealthy
My dogs and I were happy with Victor's Hi-pro plus for 6 months before, recently, they refused to eat it. They lost enthusiasm for eating and would let food sit in their bowls. After some time passed, they outright refused to eat. My daughter's dog became sick for two weeks before refusing to eat this same formula. It's too bad as Victor's seemed a good product - great ingredients, considerably reduced one dog's allergy problems, well priced. But, if you try it, keep a close eye on things.

Great quality
I was a little shocked when we got our new puppy at 4 months old. The breeder informed us she was on this type of food and not to switch until she is around one year if we did plan on switching. So we ordered this one. We also have two other older dogs and I was surprised that our other dogs now turn their noses up at their regular food and will only eat this! Our dogs seem to have more energy and eat less with this food- they even switched to a scheduled feeding just so they get some of this. I would highly recommend this dog food for all stages of dogs, including puppies because its high quality and contains less fillers unlike the dog food we fed our dogs previously

Awful Change in Quality
My dogs had eaten this for 6 years with no issues. Something has changed, they both got sick in Aug/September and stopped eating it completely. One of our dogs ended up at the vet for 3 days he was so sick. They started to starve themselves instead of touching this food. It smells very badly now as well. We buy 2 bags at a time so 2 bags were completely wasted. The price has gone up and the quality gone completely down!

bad chemical smell
Do not buy! Bought this food for a year… just today we opened a bag of high pro plus dog food and the food had this strong intense chemical smell! It gave me an instant headache. It made me nauseated and I was not able to even be in my pantry for long where the opened dog food bag was. Also, my dogs wouldn’t even eat it! I knew instantly something was wrong w this food. The smell is so strong, I had to put the food on my porch. I am concerned that maybe there was a chemical spill at the factory. Or did they changed the food recipe?? Idk what it is from..But there has been no recalls on it. The food was not expired either btw. I saw a similar review today regarding this smell 8 months ago on Reddit. Also I see a recent review on Chewy here from Nov 15th 2022 with same issue. This food is made at the Mid America Pet Food LLC in Texas.

This product made my puppy very sick
I took her to the vet and she was put on various meds and her diet was chicken and rice for a while. It was almost like she was experiencing pancreatitis. Very serious and possibly caused by too much fat in formula. The other Victors for pups and active dogs didn't do this. Be careful!!

Great food!
We switched our newly rescued Olde English Bulldog/American Bulldog 11 month old to this food after giving him $120 (20lb) bags of another “high quality” brand. His stool on the other brand was always messy and he was going way too much for 3 cups a day. I went on an OEB FB Page and asked what people were feeding their pups… Victor Hi-Pro Plus was the #1 response of almost 50 people! I asked my vet her thoughts about it and she agreed that Victor is a quality brand. Since switching (2nd - 60lb bag in), his stool has been perfect, he is going much less and he seems to love the food, though I’m pretty sure this big boy would eat just about anything. His coat looks healthy & shiny and his weight is perfect… he is a happy guy!

Didn’t work well
I’ve used this before. This first time I bought a 50 pound bag. My dogs absolutely wouldn’t eat it my sons dog a lab ate small amount didn’t eat anymore had stomach issues afterwards. I can’t explain what’s going on but paid almost 100.00 for this bag an can’t use it. I donated it to local shelter hope they can use it for the animals that come in .

Something has changed
They must have changed the formula of this food. I have been buying it for my newfoundland for several years and he always loved it. Recently he won't touch it unless I add a canned food topper. More recently, they changed the kibble size to TINY which is not great for my large dog. It's also giving him diarrhea all of a sudden (no other food/treat changes). Won't be buying again, switching him to Purina pro plan.
