Questions & Answers

I have fed Victor Hi Pro before and for the most part my dogs did well on it. What I'd like to know is why it doesn't have any Glucosamine or Chondroitin in it for joints? Also I like to rotate proteins now and then. What food does Victor make that could be rotated with HI Pro Plus?
Answer by ValorOct 14, 2022
Hi-Pro is a multi-protein formula (beef, chicken, pork, and fish meals) so I’m not sure how well it would fit into a rotational protein schedule. If you want to rotate proteins you might check out Victor’s Select line which are single protein formulas. I personally have fed the Select Beef and liked it. For glucosamine I personally like supplementing with Cosequin or Dasuquin. I hope this helps!

How many cups of food are in each size bag?
Answer by ChewyAug 24, 2019
There's approximately 4 cups in every one pound of dry dog food. The 5-pound bag holds about 20 cups, the 15-pound bag holds about 60 cups, the 40-pound bag holds about 160 cups and the 50-pound bag holds about 200 cups.

Victor dog food is made in the USA but do they source their ingredients from the USA as well?
Answer by ChewyJan 20, 2018
Victor products are produced in the USA with 80% of all ingredients sourced within a 200-mile radius of the facility.

Is this non gmo sourced?
Answer by ChewyOct 15, 2018
Victor multi-grain recipes are made with GMO-free wholesome grains. All Victor recipes are free from corn, wheat, soy and gluten.

Dog Refuses to Eat It

My golden ate this food since she was a puppy, our breeder recommended it. She is now 1.5 years old and REFUSES to eat it. She would rather go hungry than eat this food. I don't know what the difference is, but something must be different with the formula. I have changed to purina and she seems to like it a lot more and doesn't have as much gas. So I am concerned about this food and will not be buying again.

caused issues

We switched from Pro Plan to this because of the never ending price raising with that food. This has great reviews on Dog Food Advisor, but it causes odd issues for my dogs. Our little dog has developed a dry crust on her nose and our large dog’s stool is hard and dry. My dogs seem to like the taste, but the issues they developed are concerning.

Dogs dislike it

We originally bought Victor last fall when a family member bought a corgi pup. The breeder recommended it since it was what her dogs were on. Corgi eventually refused to eat it at all and switched her to Purina Pro Plan. Coat improved and pup was happy. We just got a Labrador pup and she is the least food fussy dog ever. I have been mixing the Pro Plan with the Victor to try to use it up and finally after two weeks, she eats everything but the Victor. So ProPlan it is.

Great, but not for pregnant dogs!

I loved this product that was recommended by a breeder. I gave to my golden retrievers for 9 months and then my girl got pregnant. She had 8 puppies total. The entire litter was unusually small in size and not gaining weight normally. At 8 weeks none of them were over 6 lbs. . I sold a puppy and she had to be euthanized because 1 kidney was under developed and the other missing. Vet felt it was food and that protein was too high. Stopped immediately and switched to Purina Pro Plan. So far no issues but definitely opened my eyes!

Best Food for my English Bulldog

Currently this is the only food axiom eats and honestly it is the best I had ever bought. His visit to the veterinarian is always good results and he was considered the runt of his litter but I never had any issues with him. From the photos you can tell that his coat is shiny and how much he loves his food. I am going to continue buying this food just probably change it up in flavor.

My puppy likes it

I bought this brand because the rescue I got my Pep asked to get this food since Pep was on it and he was doing well. Now let’s talk poop; his poop is easy to clean because of this food so I will keep giving him this food until his tummy says otherwise.

used to love it

My French bulldog loved this food since before I got him, until recently. The last 2 bags I’ve gotten he will not touch and he’s not a picky dog. Even other dogs that have came to my house won’t eat it. It’s also had a very strange chemical smell in the last bag. Threw it away and will be looking for a new food.

XXXXXXXXXX.

This food was recommended by the breeder for my Golden Retriever and has kept my dog very healthy for 3 years now. Also, the veterinary Dr. agrees that this is a top choice as far as dog food goes.

Was good until recently

Not sure what happened to the latest batch but my dog stopped eating it because it smelled like chemicals. Had to switch to a different food because he just would refuse to eat it unless I masked the smell with CINNAMON.
