Questions & Answers

19 Customer Questions

Does this contain any preservatives or is it pure wild caught salmon oil?
Answer by ChewyJan 30, 2022
The only ingredient in this supplement is Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil.

What’s the shelf life?
Answer by ChewyAug 09, 2022
We recommend refrigerating the wild Alaskan salmon oil to extend its shelf life by avoiding direct sunlight, heat, and moisture exposure. If stored correctly, the salmon oil can last up to 4-6 months, but we always recommend smelling the salmon oil if you suspect it has gone bad. If it smells extra fishy or extra rancid, it might be bad.

What’s the calorie content of this supplement?
Answer by ChewyMar 06, 2022
One pump (1/2 teaspoon or 2.5ml) has about 2.3 grams of fat and 20 calories. There are also approximately 212 mg of EPA and 233 mg of DHA per pump (1/2 teaspoon) for a total of 445 mg of Omega 3.

Does this item come in capsule form?
Answer by ChewyJan 08, 2022
This only comes in liquid form.

Very good supplement

Salmon oil was recommended by out vet when we adopted a dog that scratched and chewed on his feet repeatedly. Just a small amount in his food every day and Boomer has no more scratching. Great product and simple to add to your pets diet.

Coat and skin medication

I'm sure this is great for some pets, but the smell alone drive my kitties away from it. I've put it in with creamy foods, lickable treats and on hard food. They smell it and turn away. I've tried storing it up to hopefully mask the sent, but they will not touch it. I don't really like the smell either.

Excellent product

My cat loves this supplement, I’m pleasantly surprised since she is extremely finicky eater. I gave Vital Pet Life 4 stars only because I have a major problem with the bottle pump. I have noticed that it continues to leak after each usage. I have placed a paper towel around the bottle to help absorb the oil. (see the photo below) Unfortunately due to the leakage, 1/2 of the bottle has been wasted due to the constant drip, otherwise the supplement is just what I was looking for.

Improves Dog Food Taste and Eases Allergies

My german shepherd puppy has many dietary and skin allergies. We recently had to switch his food to a prescription diet that - though quite expensive - is not tasty. We had a hard time getting our dog to eat enough food to meet his nutritional needs. The introduction of the salmon oil has been very helpful in ensuring our dog cleans his bowl. I have noticed less scratching and paw biting; although whether that is due to the food he is now consuming or the oil itself is hard to say. In any case, he is finally eating enough food thanks to the addition of the salmon oil. Its introduction has caused no further GI symptoms. We also have had no issues with the bottle or pump. The liquid itself is well-contained.

Must be refrigerated / Pump leaks

My dog loves this salmon oil! But here are a few things I learned… Since there are no preservatives, it must be refrigerated. The issue with this is that the pump leaks terribly as the oil cools and expands! The bottle originally came with a different cap fastened on the bottle and the pump alternative. My advice would be NOT to change to the pump and save yourself a huge mess!

It's ok. Bottle LEAKS stinky fish oil

Yeah it's stinky fish oil. My dog likes it. I don't love the smell. It's fish oil. The product is what they claim (not that I've had any 3rd party tests on it). They have got to do something innovative about the bottle design pump. Maybe simply put a cap on it. The pump will continue oozing stinky greasy fish oil. Since it needs to be refrigerated, you will have time consuming clean up of this mess. I'd rather just have a pop top lid. I can use a teaspoon or tablespoon measure. This is enough for me to find an alternative like fish oil capsules or to heck with this! I can feed my dog real fish for his daily fatty acid needs. But this stuff is convenient and should work as a fatty acid supplement. But fix the container pump please.

My ferrets love it!

This is the second time I've bought this brand because my ferrets cannot get enough. They even recognize the bottle :))

Might as well be water

This product doesn't smell like salmon oil, so my pets refuse to eat it. It might as well be water.

It would be great if bottle didnt leak after oil is pumped. Wont stop. So i wont use again with a pump. Only cap.
