Wagner's Always The First

Always The First

As an industry trailblazer, Wagner's has had many firsts. They were the first company over 80 years ago to sell a bird seed for year-round feeding. Before that, bird feeding was just a winter activity to give wild birds the energy they needed to survive the winter. They've also been the first to market black oil sunflower seed, regional blends, and deluxe and premium bird foods.

About Wagner's

As the oldest and largest privately owned wild bird food company in the USA, Wagner's has been helping bird enthusiasts attract wild birds to their backyards since 1894. With special blends of high-quality, fresh ingredients, their seed mixes have become time-tested favorites for all types of birds across America. They produce many different wild bird foods that are developed to give your feathered friends more of the seeds they love, making your feeders come alive with beautiful songbirds.

I live in a pine tree forest, where lots of different types of bird live. They all love this food, and I find the bird feeders empty quick! And thanks to the squirrels that get in the mix. My Sheltie climbs the slope in my front yard, and loves to follow me up the mountain. It's good exercise for both of us. Then we get to enjoy the birds singing, and the squirrels swinging around in the trees, trying to get the seed from the feeders. They are such acrobats, and make us laugh! They eat it up quick, with no waste.

I run a community front yard for displaced burds, burds who need to make friends, and burds who are just hungry. They seem to really enjoy this food. Enough that all of it ends up on my car and walk way in the form of white "paint" splatter. Maybe someday they will learn to "paint" so it will say thank you or it look like some famous persons face and we become famous. Until then I guess this will continue being on auto ship. We can only dream and hope, right?

  • Jake' s friendly invite

Jake is a handsome African gray parrot who moved in to my home with my caregiver after my stroke. He is extremely talkative especially early in the morning. I wanted him to make friends with local wild birds to add a little variety to his day. So, I ordered a bag of Wagner's Classic Wild Bird Food so Jake could invite his new found friends. Since a troop of local crows learned to take a part my hanging feeders,I scattered the seed on the ramp in front of the house.Problem solved: The crows went their merry way and the songbirds plus a delicate pair of doves soon began to stop by for snacks.Jake could see his friends from his cage and "talk " to them. • Not heavy on sunflowers

    By on

I bought this because I thought it would have a higher percentage of sunflower seeds than the smaller seeds. It did not. That’s frustrating not only because the birds like sunflower seeds better, but also because my bird feeders work better with those bigger seeds in the mix. Won’t be purchasing this again.

  • Not so good

    By on

This seed is a disappointment and puzzling. My birds don't seem to like it and are just shoveling it on the ground. I ordered 5 bags of this stuff to mix with my black oil sunflower seeds thinking it would make my whole feathery crew happy. My cardinals have stopped coming which is another part of the puzzle because I know they love sunflower seeds. Anyway, frustrating! Not sure what mix I can make that will bring back my pairs of cardinals??? PLUS, the pigeons in my area love this seed which I don't consider a plus. At any rate, not sure what to do but will continue my efforts to find a solution.

  • The birds like it.

No cheap filler seed like milo or wheat that you sometimes find in other brands. I only put out enough so that it is completely consumed and none is left to attract rats. I would prefer no sunflower seeds when ground feeding. It's OK though the squirrels eat those right away so there's no wastage.

  • Good seeds for my feathered friends

    By on

Living in Wisconsin I have blue jays, cardinals, gold finch, various types of small birds, and many others year round. I feed them Wagner's year round. Plus with the free shipping from Chewy my feathered friends and my wallet can't go wrong.

  • Disappointed in this bag of seeds.

    By on

What happened to the Classic bird seed? I am on autoship for this Wagner's Classic and this bag had way more Milo in it than my previous orders. Thus my headline is "Disappointed". Hopefully the 2 bags I have on order have fewer Milo seeds, as the variety of birds in my yard will NOT eat Milo. It ends up as waste and makes a mess under my feeders. Fingers crossed my next order will have less Milo.

  • Bad Bird food

    By on

I wasn't happy with the bird food because it was mostly tiny seeds that fell through the openings with very little sunflower seeds. I won't be buying it again. I have to buy a better food locally and mix it with the food I got from you.
