When I first opened the bag, I thought the black pieces looked gross, but thought maybe it was okay until my dog snubbed her nose at them. She loves sweet potato, but won't eat these. After looking back at reviews, I wish I'd taken pictures and asked for a refund. Chewy has been great, and I have no way to tell if it's QC issues on the part of the manufacturer or more of an improper storage issue between manufacture and delivery but I would NOT recommend these to anyone, find a more reputable brand. I took out the good ones and dried them the rest of the way to salvage what I could, but she sometimes will still snub her nose at some that look fine.. Knowing how good her smeller is, I trust her to tell me no thank you and just give her a different piece. Sadly, I accidentally selected autship EVERY MONTH instead of every 3 or 6 months and didn't realize it until the second bag arrived. It was in better condition, but still at least 1/4 of the bag was automatically thrown in the compost and probably half the rest is slowly making its way there as well..
Typically sweet potato chews are chewy. Leather-like. These are hard and crunchy. I thought maybe the bag I received was short dated, but it isn’t. I’m sure they’re fine. It’s just that my dogs prefer the treats that are not so hard and dry.
My dogs LOVE Sweet Potato chews, so I bought two 32oz bags..... BIG MISTAKE! STILL HAVE BOTH bags and I've had to trash almost half a bag; our dogs won't touch them..... If I give them CALEDON FARMS product from WINN-DIXIE , they 'wolf' them down. ....... Big mistake thinking an expensive product = happy dog.
My dogs love these sweet potato treats. One dog has to be a vegetarian and this is one of the few treats she can eat. However, the last 2 bags I have opened were dry and obviously over baked. We were all happy to open a bag this morning that is back to normal. I would give this 5 stars if we hadn't gotten the other 2 bags
Both my dogs love, love these treats. They have no problem chewy them. When they are super excited I know want that treat. One of my dog spit out my training treat and waited for these sweet potato ones.
The sweet potato treat is a great one for dog family. Additionally, it provides chewing options without risking your dog swallowing something hard or unhealthy.
So I buy these as alternatives to bones. They're not as hard but I liked that they were potato slices cut longer. It's nice to see my 20 lb dog hold it by its paws and use its range of teeth to break down the slice. Its length also takes a while for the dog to get through which is great for stimulation. I bought my most recent bag and saw that the usual length was cut in half width-wise. I've seen other products they make where they're cut like fries but to then make this purposed longer slice now in half defeats it being a dog chew. Annoying. So now I'm on the fence of whether it's worth it. I'm more likely to spend $500 on a food dehydrator than buy another bag. See what happens when you ruin a good thing?
We’ve been buying this brand for awhile for our picky dog and they’ve usually been great. Recently our last few orders have been moldy and wet when they’ve arrived. We’ve tried ordering a few times and they’ve been really bad. Very disappointed with the quality change and we will no longer be buying these.
I tried these things with four different German Shepherds ranging in ages from 3-9 years old, a 6.5 year old Chocolate Lab and a 6 year old Basset Hound. While they all wanted to eat these I noticed that they were far too thick and hard as well as very sharp when they were able to bite through them. I found that putting a few in a plastic Ziploc baggy with enough warm water to cover the contents sufficiently rehydrated them after about an hour (possibly sooner but I didn't check). The Chocolate Lab, Basset and younger GSD were able to eat them easily at that point; the other three GSDs weren't here at that time so I don't know whether they would've tried again.
These are very, very small, not at all what they used to be or what I was looking for. I will not order again and would not recommend unless you're looking for very small sweet potato pieces.
