Dependable and safe from chemicals

I purchased this after lots of research so that I would not have to put chemicals on my senior dog with early kidney disease. I wanted to protect her from fleas and ticks though. This collar is easy to use and works well. It has a stronger scent at first, but it did not bother my dog, my cats, or me. I love that the collar is cat-safe as well. For my small dog, I used the breakaway cat collar and it fit great. It doesn't break away super easily, so if you're using it for cats, I'd recommend a lot of supervision to determine if it's safe for your cat. While wearing the collar for April through November, my dog had no ticks or fleas. I changed the collar once a month because I wanted it to repel mosquitoes also, but if you're just looking to prevent fleas and ticks, the collar lasts for 60 days. It's a great alternative to the traditional chemical preventatives.

Not for all cats!

I have three cats, one of them is different in many ways. He is extremely sensitive to sound, people he doesn’t know, he has extra thumbs (back)and extra long ones

I have three cats, one of them is different in many ways. He is extremely sensitive to sound, people he doesn’t know, he has extra thumbs (back)and extra long ones (front)legs and arms. So, I am not sure if he was allergic or he hated the collar and scratched so hard in several areas that created big patches of damaged skin. I had to remove the collar. The other two seem to be ok. But I still found some fleas on them. Is winter, I can’t bath them.

Wondercide Does It Again,Natural Appraoch to Flea/Tick Control

This past summer has been difficult to keep fleas and ticks at bay. In addition to Wondercide sprays,I thought I would give the flea and tick collars a try.The peppermint scent is not offensive, and although the collar does not kill fleas/ticks,it does repel the insects.I am glad I added the Wondercide collar to my arsenal.

Definitely works ... just not clear how well

Three of our cats are allergic to fleas which results in oozing scabs all over their body (mostly their back). This makes them ideal candidates for testing new flea

Three of our cats are allergic to fleas which results in oozing scabs all over their body (mostly their back). This makes them ideal candidates for testing new flea poisons because, if the poison works, the scabs begin to dry out and heal within 48 hours. We ran a 7-day test with these natural collars. At the end of the 7 days, there was a small improvement in the scabs so the collars definitely do work to some degree. Not nearly as well as flea poison but that's to be expected since these collars are just a natural repellent, not a flea killer. We would've liked to have run a longer test but time was up - the fleas needed to be killed, so we administered flea poison. In a more mild situation, I would imagine these collars could possibly keep a flea population in check, and the number of fleas on the cats to a minimum. I doubt the collars could ever get rid of the fleas entirely but in conjunction with frequent vacuuming and cleaning of surfaces & bedding (to eliminate most of the larvae and eggs), maybe they could eradicate a flea population by sheer undernourishment and aging-out of the fleas. I hope someone else with a less urgent flea problem will run that test. The truth of the matter is that 100% elimination of fleas isn't always necessary. Sometimes just keeping the population to a bare minimum is an acceptable trade-off for avoiding poisoning your cat with flea poison. The collars didn't bother any of the cats once they were put on. The cats didn't like me putting the collars on them though because the collars are a bit difficult to put on and therefore take a bit of time (maybe 30 seconds). This is because the ratcheting notches on the collar don't pull through the slot easily when tightening. If the cat is calm and holds still, it would be no problem but our cats were squirmers. I don't consider this a negative aspect however, as it's better to have some difficulty when passing the notches through the slot than to have the collar fall off later because they pass through too easily. There is a risk however that because you have to pull so hard you might dangerously overtighten the collar by mistake. For this reason, I highly suggest keeping three fingers (or some object of similar width) under the collar at all times while you're tightening. The collar mostly smells like peppermint and doesn't appear to bother the cats.

Had high hopes

I had success with this collar back in the spring but my cat is covered (just pulled 5 off) with ticks and has been wearing the collar for 2 weeks. Unfortunately

Love the concept

I like the concept of using essential oils to ward off pests. Unfortunately, the collar did not last long before I found it broken on the floor.

Didn't work on my cat.

I was so hopeful this would work but didn't work on one of my cats. He is white and gray and almost frail looking and the fleas left the other cats to go to him

Did not work on my cats

I really hoped these would work but they have not. I am still finding fleas on my cats and they are still scratching. I even found some under the collar.
