Questions & Answers

38 Customer Questions

Is there a chance that this food is contaminated in processing (eg on same machines) with other sources of meat protein? My dog needs to be on an elimination diet without ANY other meat protein.

Answer by ChewyNov 02, 2020
Zignature uses a three-step cleaning process, after each recipe is produced. First, they thoroughly clean all the equipment. Second, they produce 750 pounds of the new recipe and then destroy all of it. Third, they make an additional 100 pounds of the new recipe and then package and discard it. This three-step process both cleans the equipment and flushes out any of the previous formula’s ingredients before the new recipe is produced.

Where is the Kangaroo meat processed and packaged?

Answer by ChewyMay 07, 2022
Zignature develops and crafts their recipes with nutritionists and food scientists and make their products in Perham, Minnesota, and Mitchell, South Dakota. They source ingredients from quality sources around the world. The Trout, Salmon and Whitefish come from the Pacific Northwest; Turkey from the Midwestern United States; farm-raised Duck from Western France; Lamb from the farmlands of New Zealand; and Kangaroo comes from Australia. In addition, fruits and vegetables are from farms across North America, depending on the growing seasons; Vitamins and Minerals come from both North America and France.

Does Zignature offer any limited ingredient options with smaller kibble? Switched my Shih Tzu over to this per my vet's recommendation, but the kibble is pretty large.

Answer by ChewyMar 08, 2018
At this time, Zignature doesn't make a small breed kibble formula. This food is formulated for small, medium and large breed dogs. You can mix the dry kibble with wet food to make it easier for your small dog to chew.

I have one dog that has pretty severe food sensitivities and allergies. Both are seniors and had been struggling with the food i had been giving them for the last year or so. I'm not sure of what changed. But when they couldn't keep meals down regularly, I looked into an alternate protein source, and my search said that kangaroo meat was gentle on touchy digestive systems. My one dog was so sick I didn't even mix foods to switch him over. I put him straight on this and he's kept it down ever since. My other dog is still switching to use up the old food and hopefully it will work well for him too. It's a little expensive, but when you look at the size of the bag and the avoidance of vet bills, it is worth it. Now I'm looking to compliment it with a soft food, but I would like to try one can first before I order a case. I wish that was an option online because I live in a rural area. I'm assuming it will go as well as the dry food. If not better.

I have a mini schnauzer that has many protein food allergies and found this Kangaroo Zignature product several months ago. Not only did my boy really the food , but he adjusted to it really well. So much so that we started auto shipping this product and it became our go product. However something has changed. Maybe a bag ago (2 months or so) my dog started having stomache issues (lots of gas) and throwing up. When he vomited the kibble was always solid pellets. I just attributed it to maybe he was eating to fast or too much and tried feeding small amounts to regulate his eating habit. The problem never ceased. I then started investigating the food and what I have discovered is that these pellets of kibbles are so hard that my dog cannot chew them up and subsequently unable to digest. I could not brat then with my hands. I put them in a baggie and tried using a wooden roller and crushing them. That was almost impossible. It wasn't until I got a hammer and pounded them did I have any luck breaking them down and crushing them. The ingredients are good, but the quality and edibility of this kibble is horrible!!! My poor dog has suffered through at least a month of trying to "stomach" this food...beware!

We have since switched to the Zignature Kangaroo w/grains but am still just as pleased! If I can't get the option with grains (like if out of stock) I would definitely buy this! Kangaroo is a novel protein and my girls skin and general wellness hasn't been better. LOVE Zignature!

All foods have chicken or chicken by- products which Clyde is allergic to. We switched to this and itching is gone!! His skin is much healthier looking, his fur is shinier, and I can tell he feels better. I recommend this if you have a dog with allergies like my best buddy. He also has yeast problems. It has cut down on yeast significantly.

When I say our labs allergy results lit up like a Christmas tree I’m not joking. She is allergic to 75% of proteins and almost all dog friendly foods. We tried so many different brands but this plus supplements and home cooked topper is the only thing that has given her relief from skin issues and tummy upsets. SO thankful we found it.

One of two of our dogs are allergic to chicken. Under the recommendation of our vet, we tried kangaroo on them both. We've never seen them more excited to eat their breakfast and supper. No more gland infection, scooting, upset stomachs. We had tried pumping, green beans and psylliac powder prior. Such a relief not to see her in discomfort. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? DEFINITELY!

I gave this a 5 because initially Finny loved it and it followed his hepatic diet. Now that he is ill and hepatitis has taken its toll, his appetite and palate have changed. Now all he wants is fresh chicken. Give the old dude whatever he wants now. Under normal circumstances, the food deserves 5 stars.

Our 8 year old silver lab has been an allergy dog and has been on a number of prescription novel protein foods. He was on this food for many years but the last 25 pound bag has made him very sick. He has been vomiting and had diarrhea. Something has changed in this formula. I do not recommend it at all. Since it is not prescription, it is not controlled. Do not buy this.

Great for Allergies!

Tilly is allergic to all common meats. She has no licking herself with this food. I wish I could afford it! I only by it once in a while when I can.
