A great treat for an old cat
My 18 year old cat left for the rainbow bridge on April 2. This mackerel and lamb cat food had been a favorite for several years. Near the last of his life he was eating very poorly but this mackerel and lamb food still enticed him. Over the years Chewy has been the best source of food, medicine, and cat products for my very indulged and spoiled cat. Also, customer service is beyond compare always.
Not What I Expected
Has a very strong odor which may be fine for cats if they like the food. My three do not like it. The youngest might eat it if it were shaped differently. I think the hard, flat, small, square pieces are difficult to get off of a flat surface and the sharp corners may have hurt one of them. Kind of like a shard of corn chip poking your gums.
Need to Grind Up or Soak Overnight
The small pieces are very hard. I use a Ninja Express Chop to grind up and then soak in water for a few minutes to achieve a paste-like consistency. I buy beef, chicken, and lamb & mackerel for my cats.
My cat turns her nose up at this food and I found it very stinky. I’m sure it be great for a cat who really likes fish and strong flavor.
Better for your Cat
Better then kibble low carb baked no rice or potatoes grain free 95% meat. Pricey but great for you pet. I use a 1/4 cup once a day and can food the rest of the day for hydration and water content.
Something to Chew
My cat has recently been diagnosed with diabetes and is not supposed to have dry food anymore. This is a good transition because it's very low carb but gives him something to sink his teeth into. Awesome quality ingredients.
My cat loves this food
Recently I took in a stray that I decided I want to try and put on a healthy diet so in my discovery the ziwi peak mackerel and lamb seems fitting. So far my cat loves to it and comes running everytime she hears me open the door (I keep her food in the closet because she is liable to tear through the bag haha) and yelling to fill the bowl. Her coat is extremely soft and shines nicely, she is also a clean cat but I would attribute it to the ingredients in this food. It does come with a small scooper and since it is high protein you feed smaller amounts to them. The downside to this food is that the bag is small and it is some what pricey, however for the health of our pets it's worth it to pay the higher price. I also feed a little bit of wevura cans to my cat to help keep the bag last longer. Since I have one cat and can afford to do this, it works out.
Pricey but delicious! (And healthy too!)
Our cat Mamo has lots of allergies/sensitivities, and he also needed to lose weight. Ziwi has so few ingredients that it doesn’t irritate Mamo’s tummy or skin, and he’s absolutely obsessed with it - I have to feed him in a treat dispenser or puzzle feeder just to keep him from gorging himself! He’s at his goal weight too - his vet thinks he looks great. Before Ziwi I was feeding him expensive limited ingredient canned food, and this is much less hassle. 10/10!
Nope - won't touch it
My human thought it smelled awful. I took a sniff and walked away. Two stray cats outside that the human feeds regularly wouldn't touch it either. Too bad because the ingredient list sounds great.
My ferret loves this
My ferret is so addicted to this that when i try to change her food she wont eat it!! she only eats this and wont try anything else as hard as i try great quality food and though it does smell when i open the bag, she loves it all! the only downside is how expensive it is for just 2.2 pounds, but it is good quality plus shes a ferret so foot portions compared to a cat or dog is greatly cut!! so 2.2 pounds lasts me around a month (4 weeks) to a month and a half (6 weeks) would i recommend for ferrets? yeah!! if you have enough money and a single ferret
