Questions & Answers

Is this ok for a cat with early renal problems.

How many percentage of chick pea in a can?
Answer by ChewyMar 20, 2018
After evaluating many different binding ingredients, Ziwi Peak's extensive research indicated that the healthiest solution was using a small amount of chickpea. Chickpea has natural binding properties, is high in protein and provides digestive benefits for both dogs and cats. The inclusion of chickpea has only increased the carbohydrate content by an average of 1.8% on an as-fed basis, and only half of the total carb content is from chickpea. The balance of the carbohydrate was already existing in the recipes and provided by their meats and kelp.

I don't see taurine listed in the ingredients in any ziwi peak canned cat food, is there taurine and what is the percentage?
Answer by ChewyOct 11, 2017
This product contains 0.35 percent Taurine on a dry matter basis.

Are your cans BPA free?
Answer by ChewyMar 24, 2020
ZIWI Peak cans are made from tin with an internal lacquer. They are classed as BPA-NI which stands for BPA non intent. It means that no BPA is intentionally added into the lacquer. Additionally, there is no BPS used in the manufacturing of the cans.

Only Wet Food Frankie Eats

I rate it 3 stars only because of the supply chain issues. When I have a big stock at home, Venison is in stock, but when my supply is low, it's out of stock everywhere. It's also very expensive. We started buying this food for our little girl who had IBD and many other health issues. The boys rejected wet food and would only eat dry from the time I found them. But slowly both Frankie and Jessie began to eat a little of Cassie's wet when she left some in the bowl. Over time we offered more and more wet to the boys until we actually got Frankie off the dry food.. Cancer took Jesse in 2019 and Cassie finally succumbed to her accumulated health problems in 2022. Now we only have the big fella (Frankie). He currently eats both the Venison wet food and Petcurian Limited Ingredient Duck dry food (which was the dry food what Cassie was able to eat). We are afraid to change Frankie's food to another Ziwi Peak flavor so we keep holding our breath to work past the supply chain problems.

I wanted my Sweetie to like it but no

My elderly Sweetie cat loved the discontinued lamb and rabbit by Ziwi, but she will not even try the venison recipe. I really was hoping she would like it the same, since Ziwi was a blessing to find without any chicken in it. Sweetie has hyperthyroidism and kidney disease and had gained weight by eating the lamb and rabbit recipe. I'm so dispointed they discontinued her favorite that was helping her with her health problems. Due to the price of this cat food, I hope I can return the venison recipe that she won't eat. Maybe your cat would like it? I do like that it has good ingredients and that's why I gave it three stars.

Damaged products- all cans dented badly

Not one single can was without a huge dent. Many had 3 deep dents. I have not had this issue when I order from their website directly, which is what I will be going back too. The damaged product is not worth the small discount for subscription

Kitties didn't like...sigh...

Great quality cat food. Sammy Mittens and Sara Sassy Snowplow didn't think so. It also smells to high heaven to where I was gagging. That being said, I think it's good for other kitties. Just not mine.

Good food for cat with IBD

My cat was recently diagnosed with food allergies and IBS. This food is good. My cat throws up less. She likes the venison flavor. I would recommend.

Good product, good service.

This is a good food for my cat who is allergic to chicken and chicken is in everything. It is expensive but so is a perscription diet. I wish there were more alternatives to chickenless foods.

Pancreatitis

My cat has pancreatitis, and tends to vomit. He does well on this food, and loves it. The food is expensive, but worth the cost.

Life changing

This is the highest quality canned cat food you will find on the market. No gums or nasty ingredients that are known to trigger intolerances in cats, and a fantastic novel protein to trial for IBD. This food changed my cats life after a flare that led to an IBD diagnosis. He got his energy back, moisture intake increased, and his itching decreased considerably. The huge downside to this food besides the cost are the constant supply issues. This is a fantastic food to stabilize cats with and trial a new protein, but it is not practical to feed on its own as the sole diet. I now feed this in rotation 1-2 times a week for my boy as a treat, and have instead transitioned him to a balanced raw diet. I cannot praise this product enough. I hope the supply issues improve, and pray it never goes down in quality.

My Cats Don’t like It

Personally, I believe Ziwi Peak makes high quality canned cat food and, while I primarily feed my cats raw (Darwin’s Pet), I do like to augment their diet with novel proteins and the convenience of canned food for two or three meals a week. However, the CONSUMER is the most important and the ones consuming the food are my cats who are not in love with venison. Yes, most of it gets eaten, but there is always some untouched - there is not unfettered enthusiasm manifested like when I serve Ziwi Peak Lamb and Mackerel.

Unfortunately, not for Sox

The very first time I gave this to Sox he gobbled it up. Unfortunately, ever since then he won't go near the stuff. And I can't really blame him; it smells really awful! I guess I will be donating the rest.
