Transition Instructions

When switching diets, it's important to transition your dog or puppy as it takes time for her digestive system to adapt to the richer nutrient levels in ACANA. Over a 5-7 day period, gradually mix in ACANA, increasing the amount each day so that by day 7 you are feeding 100% ACANA.

Great company, great ingredients but no one will eat it

By Judith on Oct 4, 2021

I feel very guilty feeding lamb to my pets but I thought I would try it after reading how chicken is maybe not that great for dogs. I discovered there's chicken in A LOT of dog foods. My pets--except for the new puppy--are all rescues and I will never understand why they're such picky eaters considering what their early lives were like. The puppy was only fed another brand of kibble by the breeder but she refuses to eat it now that I have her. She just doesn't like the smell of this one and won't eat it.

    Finally a transition off prescription

By ListyA on Sep 22, 2021

My 9 month old Goldendoodle has been on a prescription diet for 4 months and had numerous failed attempts when trying to transition to other non-prescription foods (they always led to severe GI upset). We know she has an intolerance to “something” but we haven’t been able to narrow in on the exact ingredient. This LID diet appealed to me as it still incorporated grains and was high in fiber for her sensitive stomach. I also liked that I could use this food as my dog is still a puppy and continue feeding as an adult. We had to start off very slow in the beginning of the transition, like 25% new food for a full week, then 50% for a week, and 75% for a week. My two pups love this food!

By Twodogs on Sep 27, 2021

My older dog had been suffering from really bad GI issues. After a food trial we decided to go with the lamb and pumpkin limited ingredient food with wholesome grains. I loved what I read on the ingredient label and what I read about the company. Got our first bag and my pup loved the food and did so well on it. We held our breath the first few days just waiting for a flare up,but nothing! He has been on this food for a few months now and he still loves it and is doing great! And our 8 month old puppy got into his brothers food bowl and now refuses to eat any other dog food. So he is on it as well. Thank you Acana!!!

    Great quality

    By AJsOldies1 on Jul 20, 2021

Great quality, great ingredients, what more can I say?! As an Olde English Bulldogge breeder food quality with minimal ingredients is what we look for as bulldogs are far more sensitive to foods and fillers. I put my pregnant momma on this food and all the pups were great and healthy. Momma maintained a great weight as well. Babies are 3 weeks old and momma is able to keep up on milk production eating this food and she also looks great and is not overweight or underweight! Its a bit more pricey yes, but the quality is there! Heres momma and a couple of her babies. All are healthy and doing wonderful! AJs Oldies Approved!

    Good but pricey

By Jillers on Sep 28, 2021

This food seems fine. We were looking for a kibble that had some healthy grains and good protein. We use it in combination with fresh/frozen food from Ollie. This is an expensive kibble but it is one of the few kibbles we could find that met the criteria we wanted.

    Not a favorite

By FitnessCookie on Oct 3, 2021

My standard poodles are incredibly picky, so I'm not entirely surprised that they didn't love this formula. However, they generally love Acana food... they didn't dig this formula with the grain. Not a part of the regular rotation.

    All our dogs like it

    By Jane on Oct 1, 2021 top500Contributor

I'm so glad that Acana has come out with this food, which has no legumes. The dogs like it, and it is excellent quality.

    My three heathens love it.

By jimg on Jun 6, 2021

Been wanting to get away from all the grain free hype and chose healthy grains diet to be a much better option for my catahoula's and heeler. I originally bought the high protein diet from Acana and was also a great success but after switching to the limited ingredient lamb they are on their third bag compared to the high protein. I fill one bowl with up and one with limited and the limited is always gone first. They also love the duck version. Highly recommended this product.

    My dog loves it!

By WeasleyTheWestie on Jun 17, 2021

I have tried multiple foods for my westie with a sensitive stomach, including expensive prescription food. She would eat them all for a few weeks and then refuse to eat it. She has been eating this Acana food for about 6 weeks now and loves it! She eats it happily without any toppers or anything added. No stomach issues either! So relieved to finally find a food she likes and that likes her!
