What is considered a senior dog?
Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2019
It varies, but cats and small dogs are generally considered to be old at the age of 7. Larger breed dogs tend to have shorter life spans and are considered to be old when they are approximately 6 years of age.

Is there any ingredients that support and/or help with joints and age related stiffness?
Answer by ChewyFeb 10, 2019
Glucosamine and chondroitin from natural sources help support joint health and overall mobility related to aging.

I understand the food is made in USA. Where are the ingredients sourced from?
Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2020
American Journey will source from reputable suppliers in the US and worldwide, dependent upon availability. Select vitamins and minerals may be sourced from China, dependent on global availability. He loves it

My boy Remington had been on another diabetic friendly kibble for about four years and was tired of it. I had used this previously for a few months, and decided to try it again and he loves it. Works great for his diabetes too. Just wish it came in a smaller bag since it takes a good while for him to eat it. He's a 10# Pomeranian and I weigh his food each meal rather than go by cups since not all cups hold the same number of calories and carbs. So far so good. I would buy more often from Chewey, but shipping isn't friendly, and I don't always want to buy a huge $ amount.

Formula Changed?

My elderly foster has a sensitive tummy. Shes been eating this brand for well over two years. This most recent delivery, the food looked significantly lighter in color than the previous bags as I was refilling her container that still had some of the old bag left in it. My dog has had a lot of stomach issues, vomiting and accidents since we have been giving her food from the new bag, which is very frustrating. The only thing that has changed is her new bag of food. Very disappointed that they may have changed the ingredients or something to change the appearance, taste or formula in this most recent batch.

good for picky eaters

I have an 11 year old Pitbull Boxer mix. He has been spoiled for life, very active, and has always struggled holding on weight. If his dog food does not taste as good as table scraps he won’t eat. After switching to American Journey Senior he’s been excited for his meals and licking his bowl clean. I decided after about 6 months to switch him from Senior to regular American journey just so he can gain a bit more weight. He still is very active and the Senior food promotes healthy weight decrease due to the assumption older dogs aren’t as active (usually true but not for my guy). Anyways, all in all definitely recommend!

Great option for senior pups with allergies

My Scruffy is allergic/sensitive to grains and white potatoes, so this was a really great option. I didn't know if he could eat sweet potatoes, but he doesn't seem to have a problem with them. Price is really great, and he lost a lot of the extra weight by switching to senior food. Great job, Chewy!

2 out of 3 like it

I like this kind of food because it is small pieces that are easier for my senior dogs to eat, but only 2 of my 3 dogs will eat it. The one that does not like it will only eat it after I add broth and mix in some soft food.

Good food, but itchy skin

My picky eater struggled with this food, but it seems that she doesn't like poultry varieties. My other dog who seemed to enjoy this food appeared to be allergic to something in this food and became very itchy. The itching resolved after switching. Their stools were nice and firm though. I really wanted it to work because the ingredient list seems really good, but the search continues.

senior food

I had high hopes for this food after reading all the reviews and I have senior dog, they seem to like this food at first, but it gave my wine dog the worst diarrhea he would poop all over the house. Stop feeding this food. He went back to normal.

Mini Schnauzers have sensitive stomachs!

I have two mini schnauzers, littermates 13 years old. This food is working very well with one which was having great difficulty with a previous food, and reasonably well with the other. I am hoping that both will do well over time and this will become their regular food.

Dogs love it

My four dogs prefer this dog food to others that I have bought. American Journey Senior Chicken & Sweet Potato Grain-free Dry Dog Food is one of the most favorite of the American Journey foods that they have tried.

No fillers

My two dogs love it and it is good for them. There are no fillers. We have been doing gluten free to keep dog 1 dementia from worsening.
