FAQ

How do I diagnose a health problem in my fish?

Many disease symptoms will be clearly visible, such as white streaks, lesions, protruding eyes, and other unusual marks or spots on your fish. If you suspect your fish has a disease, it will fall under the categories of fungal, parasitic, or bacterial. One way to diagnose is by matching fish symptoms to the description of a wide range of API medications, which include treatments specific to Ich disease, Betta fish, and various common symptoms (hole-in-the-head, eye cloud, fin & tail rot, etc.)

Does API BETTAFIX treat popeye?

This medication is perfect for wounds, ulcers, mouth fungus, and fin & tail rot, but will not treat popeye. For popeye treatment, API MELAFIX is recommended.

Will API BETTAFIX affect the snails in my tank?

This medication is designed for use with tropical fish only, and may cause harm to your snails.

How much API BETTAFIX should I use in a 3 gallon aquarium?

Instructions state to add 9 drops per pint, or 18 drops per quart, of aquarium water. For larger bowls or aquariums, add ½ teaspoon per U.S. gallon of water. Repeat dose daily for up to 7 days, and then perform a water change.

    Saved my bettas life

By Justin on Feb 18, 2021

Ludwig stopped eating, became lethargic, and was covered in a white cotton mold on his fins and gills. 1tsp/day had him good as new within 7 days. Never in my life would I have guessed that not only would I be buying medicine for a fish, but said medicine actually works. Truly amazing.

    Saved his fins

By AspentheBetta on Feb 7, 2021

My betta has a nice tank, but his back fin had some unpleasant fin rot. It was horrible to see so I used this, did some water changes and within a week his fins are already showing new growth. And he’s energetic and happy again!

    Not an antifungal!

By Yadi on Oct 3, 2020

I'm super upset! Based on my fish's symptoms I was looking for an antifungal and I thought since I'm not a fish doctor, "hey, why not do both?" Nowhere on the packaging does it state this is antifungal!!! Please wish sick my fishy luck!!

    Seems to work

By lapi on Oct 10, 2020

I'm actually too scared to use the recommended dosage because of the smell. Its super strong and overpowering. I put less than the recommended dosage a few days and seemed to help with my bettas cloudy eyes though

Good for pepping up your betta

By AllynW on Sep 11, 2020

My betta is in a 10 gallon tank so I ran out of Bettafix long before the recommended 7 day cap. Still, it seems to have helped. He has a small, unopened abscess on his head and I was looking for something that would keep bacteria away from it and make him feel good.

    Saved my fish

By Claire on Oct 1, 2020

My Betta was lifeless and refused to eat. Within an hour after using this product, he was eating again. I may have waited too long to use the product, but so far he has made a lot of improvement.

I think it would work if u catch it in the early stages

By zanie on Oct 14, 2020

I would buy this again. It was too late for my fish plus he was over a year old. Seemed to slow down the growth he had a little bit

    Seems to work

    By Huey210 on Aug 28, 2020 top1000Contributor

I used this once before and the Betta recovered. I ran out of this and used a different product and it killed the Betta ... either that or he was just too sick to recover. This will be my go to remedy going forward.
