Should cats have treats every day?

Cats can have treats every day, provided they are given in moderation. Be sure treats don’t make up more than 10% of your cat’s total daily caloric intake, and try to choose healthy treats made with wholesome ingredients and few to no fillers or artificial additives.

How many cat treats can you give your cat a day?

You can give your cat multiple treats every day, but make sure treats don’t make up more than 10% of your cat’s daily calorie intake. You can look on the treat package for suggested serving sizes, or check the calorie count per treat and compare it to the recommended daily calorie count for your cat’s weight. Your vet can give you guidance on how many treats to feed and other nutritional advice.

Do cat treats expire?

Cat treats expire just like cat food does, so check the expiration date on any treats that may be past their prime. While expired treats or those past their best-by date may not be dangerous to your cat—although sometimes they certainly can be—they may taste stale or lack some of the nutrients they contained when fresh. Follow the same rules you follow for your own food safety and always feed your cat fresh, properly stored and sealed treats.

Can kittens have cat treats?

Kittens can have cat treats if they are older and eating solid food, but feed them with extreme caution. Some cat treats may be too big for little kittens and pose a choking hazard, so be careful not to feed any treats bigger than your kitten’s kibble and always provide supervision during treat time. Cat treats may not be made with a kitten’s nutritional needs in mind either, so limit the amount of treats you give to your kitten.
