FAQ

What Are Bully Sticks

One of the most frequent questions we're asked is, "What are bully sticks made from?" Bully Sticks are 100% Beef Sticks Dog Treats and dog chews that are made from the pizzle or penis of the bull. Pizzles historically have been used for different purposes from walking canes to medicinal powders. We source our bully sticks or Beef Stick Dog Treats from South America and the USA because of their quality cooking methods and safety.

How Are Bully Sticks Made?

Bully Sticks in general are made differently depending on the vendor. Our bully sticks are cleaned and sorted in a refrigerated facility to ensure safety. The bully sticks are then hung vertically from racks and cooked in an oven to ensure that they are bacteria free and safe for dog’s consumption. Hanging the bully sticks vertically removes most of the moisture from the product. The longer that they are dried, the less odor they have.We offer both odor free bully sticks and regular bully sticks. The only difference: odor free bully sticks are dried longer and have less moisture in them. After drying, we sort and cut our bully sticks according to our sizing chart. Our high quality products are consistently measured by hand for thickness. The thicker the final product, the longer it will typically take for a dog to consume.

How Should I Store Bully Sticks?

Our bully sticks are packed and shipped in zip top bags to be re - used time and again. This is a convenient way to store your purchase and preserve the product for a long period of time. Many customers like to store their bully sticks in a freezer to increase the bully sticks’ shelf life and hardness. If your dog does not finish a bully stick in 1 sitting, simply stick the uneaten portion in the freezer, and it will become hard again for a tasty treat another day. You should not store your bully sticks in the open or outside to prevent insects from attempting to reach them.

How Long Do Bully Sticks Last?

Bully Sticks can last for up to 2 years or more from when they are produced and are known to be a very hardy product. Our bully stick stock rotates extremely quickly, and we ensure that every stick we ship will have at least a 1.5 year remaining shelf life upon receipt. As far as chew time for your pups, this really depends on your breed and their level of aggressiveness (or enthusiasm, as we like to say) when chewing the product. We have found that many of our bully sticks, given to the appropriate sized dog, will last from several hours to several days.

Is It Okay For My Dog To Swallow Small Ends of Bully Sticks?

This is a question that we receive all of the time, and there are really 2 ways to approach this. Our bully sticks are single - ingredient protein items, so they are fully digestible and can be consumed in larger pieces.Even though they can be digested, it is important for owners to supervise their pets and treat each pet differently. Some dogs, especially guarded eaters or abused pups, will tend to swallow their food and treats without proper chewing. This can present a choking hazard if too large of a bully stick is swallowed. Remember to use caution with any new dog chew and spend time understanding your dog’s behavior and reaction to them. The best solution to this problem is to attach a vise grip to the end of the bully stick (the last inch of any stick will do). This way, when your pup is done chewing, the remaining inch of product cannot be swallowed.

What Ingredients Are In A Bully Stick?

Our bully sticks are single - ingredient items made from 100% natural free - range cattle pizzle.

    Highly Recommend

our pup loves these! he's not a picky eater, but is a highly anxious dog. when he's feeling anxious he's not very food motivated, but will take these without fail every time. love that they are packed full of good things for him, not very messy, and a safe snack. they are pretty chewy, so he's always monitored when he has them, but we've fortunately never had a problem with him choking them down unlike some other chews.

    To greasy for my dogs

By TheDude on Jun 27, 2021

My dogs enjoyed them in the beginning. It didn't take long for them to walk away from them. To expensive and should offer smaller bags, for samples.

    Not a favorite

By Bailey on Apr 2, 2021

My black mouth cur loves duck feet but not this brand. Reluctantly takes them and chews them leaving big hunks uneaten. Other brands she is excited to get. These she looks at me like 'really, you expect me to eat this?' They also have a nasty smell.

    3/3 dogs LOVE these

By Knwalk on Feb 9, 2021

I’ve given them to my two boys and my parents’ dog and all three went nuts over them—even my hard to please guy who usually sniffs something before maybe taking it grabbed it immediately. Definitely not long lasting but nice to see them enjoy something so much.

    Duck feets

By Bjacks on Feb 26, 2021

My dogs enjoyed them, they are a little oily. I would buy again, they didn't last long enough. Could be a little bigger, but that can't be controlled. I like that they are made in the USA though.

    Dogs did not like

By TheWitteBunker on Jun 18, 2020

My dogs did NOT like these, and they are not picky eaters! I have bought duck feet from different brands in the past and they gobbled them down. We might try feet again (I specifically picked them because of the high collagen/ glucosamine content; they are good for joint health), but definitely not this brand. They smelled unpleasant, there was a small puncture in the bag, and when I gave them to my dogs they would take them very hesitantly and then leave large pieces behind. Not happy.

    Made my dog sick

By SickPooper on May 13, 2020

I have 3 Frenchies and a Corgi. We feed raw to the Frenchies. Because of possible choking reasons, I only gave this treat to Hersh, eldest Frenchie, since he's eaten whole prey raw before. Within a day of consuming two of these duck feet treats, he was vomiting, couldn't hold down food, and that night he had the squirts... yes the SQUIRTS. I didn't think much of it as the Frenchies have sensitive stomachs and anything could set it off BUT THEN I gave a duck feet to my corgi, who will literally eat anything, and he wouldn't touch it. That's when I put two and two together that the duck feet treat is the cause of Hersh's vomiting/squirts. Now I have a full bag, sans 3 feet, that I can't do anything I have 3 Frenchies and a Corgi. Dog likes it

By Mimi on May 6, 2020

so my puppy had a What in the world is this moment when I gave him this. Even in my head I thought it was gross. But, he took it from my hand after sniffing it out and started happily chewing it down. I gave him one to make sure it didn't mess with his digestive system and so far so good, no abnormal changes in bowels. They are a little greasy, no slime, just coated with some sort of oil. They didn't have a smell, so if you smell anything that doesn't smell right I would send it back. It takes him about 10-15 mins to chew down. He likes it, so its a keeper.
