Freeze-Dried, Solution-Based Feeding

Solution-based feeding is the focus for all Grandma Lucy’s recipes. Each nutritious freeze-dried formula is made using only wholesome, minimally processed ingredients.

Ingredients with a Purpose

It takes high-quality ingredients to produce high-quality food. That’s why Grandma Lucy’s uses only the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers and farms. Pureformance recipes are perfect for all breeds and life stages—feed them as a main meal, topper or as an addition to any homemade treat!

Family Values

Grandma Lucy’s is a company that cares. They care about pets, they care about nutrition, and they care about ingredients. They also care about giving, and they care about getting it all done right.

How Freeze-Drying Works

The freeze-drying process used by Grandma Lucy’s removes 92% of the water in the ingredients, leaving a food that is lightweight, compact, shelf-stable and preservative-free. Compared to other drying processes like dehydration or air drying, freeze-drying is better at retaining the characteristics of raw food. It preserves more flavor and keeps much of the food’s original texture after reconstitution.

High-Performance Dogs Love This Recipe

Pureformance is crafted specifically to deliver consistent, clean-burning energy throughout your dog’s daily activities.

All-Natural and Grain-Free

These lower-carbohydrate performance recipes help support weight management, and they are ideal for active breeds and dogs with food sensitivities, too.

Chickpea Carbohydrates

All-natural, grain-free, minimally processed, and made with fruits, vegetables, vitamins and minerals, these recipes supply healthy carbohydrates from chickpeas.

Quality You Can Trust

Pureformance recipes never include by-products, meals, preservatives, added hormones, antibiotics, or feed-grade or animal-grade ingredients.

Muscle & Organ Meats

Only lightly braised, minimally processed whole muscle and organ meats are used, with no meat meals or by-products.

All Natural

Minimally processed ingredients with added vitamins and minerals make these all-natural recipes naturally nutritious.

Grain-Free

Palatable, digestible and perfect for all life stages, these recipes are made without any grain.

Made in the USA

Every Simple Replacement recipe is made in small batches at Grandma Lucy’s Southern California facility.

About Grandma Lucy’s

Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. After consulting with vets and nutritionists, they started home cooking Lucy’s meals and treats, and what resulted was the basis for the healthy pet foods they make today.

How many dry cups in the 10lb bag?
Answer by ChewyDec 30, 2017
There are approximately 4 cups per 1 pound of food. The 10 pound bag would have about 40 cups and the 3 pound bag would have about 12 cups of food.

Is the meat in Grandma Lucy’s raw or cooked when it is freeze dried?
Answer by ChewyMar 04, 2020
Freeze-dried food is fresh or cooked foods such as cooked meat or fish that have been frozen then had the water removed. The process involves freezing a fresh food in a special freeze-drying chamber, then removing the water by quickly changing the chamber’s pressure and temperature.

I need to know, how many cups do you feed a 18lb dog.?

The suggested daily amounts are guidelines and should be adjusted to suit your own dog’s unique nutritional requirements, which may vary according to age, level of activity, genetics and environment. Please refer to the feeding recommendations below:

Smells good but was very crumbly

The food smelled very good but was in large crumbs almost like coarse flour. Smells good but didn't appeal to my dog. Wish there was a trial pack for such situations. Will be donating the remainder of the food away.

They love Grandma Lucy

My two large breed dogs love Grandma Lucy. I like that in the winter they can have a warm meal, but also in the Summer I freeze it in silicon molds and they love it in the Heat.. like a doggie popsicle ;)

Dogo allergies

Our Dogo Argentino is allergic to many of the binders found in regular dog food. We moved her to a 100% raw diet, but it was too much work for our busy lifestyle. Also our dog can only eat lamb and rabbit, which are not easy to come by in our metro area. A local high end pet food shop recommended using this food to supplement our girl's raw diet, and she loves it. Her coat is shiny and all of her allergy issues are resolved. The dehydrated food takes a lot of water and takes a few minutes to prepare. Don't rush it, your dog will not like it if not prepared properly. We have noticed that our dog doesn't drink much water on this diet mix. I would definitely recommend this as an option for food sensitive dogs and to use with raw food.

Good ingredients

I use this as a supplement to raw food. I'm not a huge fan of veggies and fruit in a dog's diet but this does help the raw food last longer, especially considering the supply lines might be affected. The Pureformance recipe does not contain a ton of unnecessary ingredients, like potatoes and grains, so I appreciate that immensely. My dogs love it ! And even the cats have tried a little (but I do not do this on a regular basis because cats are carnivores not omnivores). I will definitely purchase this brand again because the ingredients are actually identifiable before, and after, reconstituting it. Not a complete substitute for raw food, but definitely a good supplement to raw food.

Dog Won’t Eat It

My dog loves the less healthy Grandma Lucy “Artisan” line but it’s been difficult getting him to eat the “Performance” line. He’ll eat it if I mix in a significant amount of canned pumpkin, but if I serve it as it’s supposed to be served, he isn’t interested. Dog food that a dog won’t eat is essentially useless.

One Star for Us, Could Be Five Stars for You!

There is something in this food that gives my dog loose stools and lots of gas. We're sticking with Grandma Lucy's Macanna line of foods (very different base ingredients), which doesn't have the problem of the Pureformance line for my girl. I just wish Chewy carried the Macanna line too. Although Pureformance doesn't work for my girl doesn't mean it'll give your dog problems. Very dog is truly unique.

Both my dogs love it

So far so good, I have a pittie and a yorkiepoo and my pittie has serious allergy issues with a lot of food allergies o I have to be careful what I feed him and my little girl is 13 and very picky eater and loosing teeth. They have to eat the same food because he will lick her bowl. They both go nuts while this is soaking! We had years ago fed Grandma Lucy’s but it was the pork and it gave my allergy boy tummy issues and lamb is the only protein he can have at this point. Grandma Lucy’s is a great product made I the USA.

Archie approved !

Archie, my American bulldog loves this food. We have been feeding the honest kitchen and wanted a food to rotate with THK. We are so happy we found another great food company that is as budget friendly as the honest kitchen. Archie now loves Grandma Lucy’s . We are super excited to try all the different proteins and recipes they have to offer . Oh and I especially love that there are no potatoes in grandma Lucy’s.

“Kids” love this

This was a healthy, convenient way for us to feed our pups when we were traveling. They loved it so much, and they did so well on it, that we feed it at home now, too. Transitioning from their previous diet took about five days. After eating only this for a full week, both had improved digestion (no more gas) and, finally, no more loose stools.
