Freeze-Dried, Solution-Based Feeding

Solution-based feeding is the focus for all Grandma Lucy’s recipes. Each nutritious freeze-dried formula is made using only wholesome, minimally processed ingredients.

Ingredients with a Purpose

It takes high-quality ingredients to produce high-quality food. That’s why Grandma Lucy’s uses only the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers and farms. Pureformance recipes are perfect for all breeds and life stages—feed them as a main meal, topper or as an addition to any homemade treat!

Family Values

Grandma Lucy’s is a company that cares. They care about pets, they care about nutrition, and they care about ingredients. They also care about giving, and they care about getting it all done right.

How Freeze-Drying Works

The freeze-drying process used by Grandma Lucy’s removes 92% of the water in the ingredients, leaving a food that is lightweight, compact, shelf-stable and preservative-free. Compared to other drying processes like dehydration or air drying, freeze-drying is better at retaining the characteristics of raw food. It preserves more flavor and keeps much of the food’s original texture after reconstitution.

Pureformance is crafted specifically to deliver consistent, clean-burning energy throughout your dog’s daily activities.

About Grandma Lucy’s

Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. After consulting with vets and nutritionists, they started home cooking Lucy’s meals and treats, and what resulted was the basis for the healthy pet foods they make today.

How much daily should I feed a 13lb dog who normally eats 1c of kibble daily?
Answer by ChewyJan 08, 2019
Please following the following feeding instructions.

How much, when prepared, does this amount to compared to a dry kibble?
Answer by ChewyJan 30, 2018
The 3 pound bag makes up to a 14 pound bag of kibble and the 10 pound bag makes up a 46 pound bag of kibble.

For the feeding guideline is the measurement before or after adding the water. So is it 3 cups of freeze dried per day or 3 cups of food after is has been rehydrated?
Answer by ChewyFeb 22, 2021
The 'Feeding Instructions' are based on dry food before water is added. For each cup (113g) of Grandma Lucy's add 1 - 2 cups (240 - 480mL) of warm water.

Is the 505kcal/cup in 10lbs dry cups or once water is added?
Answer by ChewyJan 11, 2021
Grandma Lucy's Pureformance Rabbit Grain-Free Freeze-Dried Dog Food has approximately 523 calories per cup when dehydrated.

High Quality Pup Loves!

Made the switch from Honest Kitchen (chicken) because my 9yr old Mini Schnauzer developed a food allergy. I was advised to switch him to a novel protien like rabbit or venison. After tons of research I landed on Grandma Lucy's because I love feeding freeze dried and the ingriedients were what I was after. I totally disagree with other reviews here saying there isn't much meat in the contents. I don't think folks read the description of the contents before their review. The rabbit meat is mixed in tiny pieces throughout the bag to give your pup an equal distribution of all the ingriedients. So far my pup loves this food and is doing well on it.

Smells delicious

Hello well I was in luck for about 2 days only with the transition so there was other food involved and then the interest went away. I'm not sure what causes this dog to walk away from so many foods but I can tell you that this smells so good I feel like I cooked dinner as it makes my house smell so good. I had to order this dog another food and another brand because I still needed to try rabbit but I'll tell you I do recommend it. I returned this it's still in my possession as it's a little too unique to give to a rescue. I offered it to him another time he ate it ,I thought oh my gosh I should have to call chewy and pay for this again and then he didn't touch it again . I think I have a very picky eater to be honest with you and I don't know what it is about him but I think you should try it if this is an interest of yours. I might purchase it in the future after I find something that might become his main source because who would resist this I think if I could get the combination down eventually I could introduce this and buy it again. When our little puppy addition grows I will be sure to come back to Grandma Lucy's. Ty chewy for taking care of the return it gets costly trying new things. Have a safe winter everyone.

Wrong food

I ordered grandma Lucy's rabbit meat freeze dried dog food and I was sent the meatless formula which is not in the picture or in the wording.

Dog with IBD

This food was recommended for my dog with IBD as a novel protein as the vet believes he has food allergies and sensitivity. My dog , who eats anything and everything turned away from this food and wouldn’t eat it! Luckily, my other Labrador likes it so I’m trying it out to see how he does after awhile. I also decided to try another flavor (whitefish) to see if it’s just the Rabbit my dog doesn’t like .. for now, I am not sure if this food is right for my Labradors.

Long time multi dog user

I’ve utilized this food as a component of my feeding formula for four Australian Shepherds over the course many years now. I consider it high quality and value.

we love it

Our Bedlington has enjoyed this for just over a year. Our vet noticed he had no “ kibble bloat” which is good right. We used to use a kibble filler to stretch the bag because it’s costly. However he was having tear stains and bad breath. I asked our vet how to cure those two things and she said to make his diet better so we cut out the kibble filler and sure enough his tear stains went away and his breath improved noticeably. He loves his food. He eats every last drop. I just wish it was a better price.

Unfortunate no

They wouldn't even eat it. Sniffed at it then whined and flipped the bowl over. I ended up gifting the rest to a friend for their pup..

Not for my Pitbulls

I have two unrelated and different age grey pitbulls and both threw up, have loose stool/diarrha and started getting hives on their skin once fully transitioned to this food and being only on this rabbit recipe for the next 5 days (one even started losing hair on top of her head as well). After purchasing two bags of this Rabbit - I, unfortunately, can not recommend this formula as this was a rare food reaction that I have never witnessed with my dogs before nor to have both of them show similar symptoms (sometimes a day of loose stool during a slow food transition period is as bad as it got). I don't know why both had these severe reactions but this was definitely NOT the food for two grey pitties.

A costly gamble, and I lost. Dog will not eat it.

So disappointed I can't get our Shepherd to eat this, since I wanted to supplement the canned and add more moist food in order to decrease her dry consumption. She loves rabbit canned we've tried, but will not eat this, no matter how I try to get it past her. No idea why, the ingredients and company are top notch. She's just picky I guess. I just wish they offered a smaller sample bag, since I'm not too happy about her causing me to waste this much $.

My 14 years old Maltese loves this recipe!! She jumps up and down like a puppy when I’m preparing her food!
