About Grandma Lucy’s Pureformance Dog Food

Freeze-Dried, Solution-Based Feeding

Solution-based feeding is the focus for all Grandma Lucy’s recipes. Each nutritious freeze-dried formula is made using only wholesome, minimally processed ingredients.

Ingredients with a Purpose

It takes high-quality ingredients to produce high-quality food. That’s why Grandma Lucy’s uses only the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers and farms. Pureformance recipes are perfect for all breeds and life stages—feed them as a main meal, topper or as an addition to any homemade treat!

Family Values

Grandma Lucy’s is a company that cares. They care about pets, they care about nutrition, and they care about ingredients. They also care about giving, and they care about getting it all done right.

How Freeze-Drying Works

The freeze-drying process used by Grandma Lucy’s removes 92% of the water in the ingredients, leaving a food that is lightweight, compact, shelf-stable and preservative-free. Compared to other drying processes like dehydration or air drying, freeze-drying is better at retaining the characteristics of raw food. It preserves more flavor and keeps much of the food’s original texture after reconstitution.

High-Performance Dogs Love This Recipe

Pureformance is crafted specifically to deliver consistent, clean-burning energy throughout your dog’s daily activities.

All-Natural and Grain-Free

These lower-carbohydrate performance recipes help support weight management, and they are ideal for active breeds and dogs with food sensitivities, too.

Chickpea Carbohydrates

All-natural, grain-free, minimally processed, and made with fruits, vegetables, vitamins and minerals, these recipes supply healthy carbohydrates from chickpeas.

Quality You Can Trust

Pureformance recipes never include by-products, meals, preservatives, added hormones, antibiotics, or feed-grade or animal-grade ingredients.

Muscle & Organ Meats

Only lightly braised, minimally processed whole muscle and organ meats are used, with no meat meals or by-products.

All Natural

Minimally processed ingredients with added vitamins and minerals make these all-natural recipes naturally nutritious.

Grain-Free

Palatable, digestible and perfect for all life stages, these recipes are made without any grain.

Made in the USA

Every Simple Replacement recipe is made in small batches at Grandma Lucy’s Southern California facility.

About Grandma Lucy’s

Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. After consulting with vets and nutritionists, they started home cooking Lucy’s meals and treats, and what resulted was the basis for the healthy pet foods they make today.

For the feeding guideline is the measurement before or after adding the water. So is it 3 cups of freeze dried per day or 3 cups of food after is has been rehydrated?

The 'Feeding Instructions' are based on dry food before water is added. For each cup (113g) of Grandma Lucy's add 1 - 2 cups (240 - 480mL) of warm water.

Could be better

Used to buyGrandma Lucy’s for my English bulldogs. They have since passed and I now have two newly adopted bulldogs. This food smells funky. Can’t tell if it’s stale or the ingredients, but it’s not “fresh” or appetizing. Also makes one of the dogs poop multiple times a day.

We swapped our 6 1/2 year old pointer mix to freeze dried after much research and deliberation. I bought the pork and venison first, then the rabbit later since I had a coupon. The pork and venison were great, they mixed up well, and had a great consistency once I figured out the perfect ratio. The rabbit though? Stays kinda grainy and doesn't smooth out like the others. The water to food ratio was also way different. Won't be trying this one again unless we absolutely have to. She has a chicken allergy so finding a single source protein food is not easy.

Allergic

Sadly this didn’t work out for our girl although she did enjoy it and this is our second bag. She had a hot spots break out. Now looking for another food that suits

Dog won’t eat it

My dog refused to eat it, she loves rabbit but this just isn’t the food for her. Maybe it’s a texture thing, I was very hopeful

Grandma Lucy's Pureformance Rabbit

Great product for our pups. However, think it's interesting you're not asking for a review of the Bravo Chicken Bonus Bites which we thought we'd try ordering again

Great product for our pups. However, think it's interesting you're not asking for a review of the Bravo Chicken Bonus Bites which we thought we'd try ordering again. Once again, the bags were pretty smashed and probably over half the treats are nothing but tiny pieces / dust. Would recommend Grandma Lucy's food - not the Bravo Chicken Bonus Bites

My french bulldog is allergic to EVERYTHING (duck, turkey, lamb, beef and chicken). I've tested so many foods, including those that are prescribed by the vet and all the expensive raw/dehydrated food and those with limited ingredients. Nothing was helping. We had to put her on Apoquel, which seemed to (mostly) work, but this wasn't a good lifelong solution. I finally tried Grandma Lucy's Rabbit since it seemed to have limited ingredients and included no other protein aside from Rabbit. It's our second day, and I can already see drastic improvements. Since we are still transitioning her food, we are observing some level of itching which is expected. But typically, we can tell during this time whether the new food will work or not. We are also transitioning our other frenchie who had less severe allergies and again - it's only day TWO and his armpits are less irritated. This food is so amazing, and it smells really good (almost like stew) and both of my frenchies love it. I'm so happy we found this food - Grandma Lucy just gained a lifelong customer!

High Quality Pup Loves!

Made the switch from Honest Kitchen (chicken) because my 9yr old Mini Schnauzer developed a food allergy. I was advised to switch him to a novel protien like rabbit

Made the switch from Honest Kitchen (chicken) because my 9yr old Mini Schnauzer developed a food allergy. I was advised to switch him to a novel protien like rabbit or venison. After tons of research I landed on Grandma Lucy's because I love feeding freeze dried and the ingriedients were what I was after. I totally disagree with other reviews here saying there isn't much meat in the contents. I don't think folks read the description of the contents before their review. The rabbit meat is mixed in tiny pieces throughout the bag to give your pup an equal distribution of all the ingriedients. So far my pup loves this food and is doing well on it.
