I have a senior cat who’s in the early stages of CKD. He refuses any of the prescription kidney diets, so my vet told me to buy the wettest food I could find. He LOVES this food. Yes, it’s very wet, but that’s exactly what you want for a cat with kidney issues. I have two younger cats who also love this food, which works out well as the cans are a bit large and the perfect amount for the three to share. I’ve been feeding them the “Chicken Checkmate” flavor. It’s a hit!
The list of foods that are low phosphorus and low carb is short but both of my cats like this one and it meats all of their dietary needs despite their medical conditions. I was able to get my diabetic cat regulated, and his kidney disease has not progressed since being in this food
The small can has more gravy than the large can. Most of my cats will eat the small can. None of them appreciate the large can. Be carful when you order to check the size of the can.
This is like cans of water with some runny unappealing greasy hunks of ground cat food mixed in. My chicken-loving cats hate this. One of my three cats won’t touch it at all, the other two unhappily nibble at it and leave plenty behind in their bowls, which they normally never do. I feel like I’m being cruel feeding this to them. I will likely wind up having to throw away the rest of the cans I bought. Nothing I do makes this any more appealing to them. I had bought this brand in the past with no issues, but something seems to have changed in recent times. It’s now a very disappointing waste of money.
I will keep buying this product. My cat's love it. It is a soft pate with lots of broth, and it has a low phosphorus content which makes it a really good option for senior cats and CKD kitties. I wish they sold these in larger cases!
If you don't mind paying for water, go for it! Essentially water with a thimble full of cat food I gave it 2 stars because my cats ate it Have purchased this in the past with satisfaction, perhaps they changed their formula
My 19 year old cat is extremely finicky when it comes to wet food. Her preferences chance on a dime. I finally found a wet food she consistently enjoys and gobbles down like a fiend!!
I purchased this trying to get my cat off of Merrick's Rabbit Pate because that stuff was affecting her health and this Chicken recipe was good for my cat who is showing signs of CKD and kidney issues suddenly. The phosphorus on a dry matter basis are great from this flavor. She doesn't love it but it's good enough and doesn't affect her health in a negative way. The price for the cans is also great compared to other more expensive brands. Weruva does a pretty great job creating healthy options for cats without breaking the bank. I'm definitely going to continue this as long as my cat will eat it. She for the most part LOVES Weruva wet foods that i've tried in the past this one maybe being only chicken is less palatable than the other mixed flavor varieties.
I have no idea why neither of my two cats--one being very picky and only eating chicken foods while the other eats almost everything--quickly rejected this "new" wet food. I tried twice, getting the same results from my two cats each time. I have to agree that there is little/no scent for this food (I sniffed it); one cat strictly eats what smells right to him while the other is usually not particularly interested in the odor of the food he eats. Sadly, this wet food is a big reject for my two cats.
My cats loved this, but honestly the cans are too hard for me to open!
