About BLUE Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

My dog gets bouts of pancreatitis and needs to be on a low-fat prescription diet. Unfortunately, there are not many good options that I feel are healthy. Since my dog is elderly, he needs a food with a higher protein content. Most of the prescription foods have a grain as the first ingredient listed. The protein content is not sufficient for my dog's aging muscles. Then I looked at the Blue Buffalo ingredient list and saw that at the top of the list was protein. The choice for me was obvious. I do cook my dog's food to increase the protein and nutrient content of his diet. He is 20 pounds and I now give him 2 ounces of home cooked food and 1 ounce of the Blue Buffalo food twice a day. He is doing amazingly well for being 13.5 years old and his low fat prescription food is helping to keep him healthy.

My girl is severely allergic to rice and had pancreatitis which made finding a food for her very difficult. After days of searching, and working with my Veterinarian, we found this food. I was worried she wouldn’t eat it because she’s a picky eater but she eats it just fine mixed with a couple spoons of ground chicken and vegetables and microwaved for 30 seconds. She eats this combo with her supplements twice a day with no complaints. Three weeks later and she’s back to her beautiful self after the trauma of pancreatitis. My girl is 28lbs and eats about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of this food per day, so, 2 bags lasts a good month. The price point isn’t terrible considering it’s a prescription food. I don’t think she’d be happy eating just this dry but mixing a little fresh that I cook one a week does wonders. I cook 1lb ground chicken, one steam bag of frozen mixed vegetables and mix one can of pumpkin, two spoonfuls of this twice a day lasts about 5 days mixing it in with one cup of the dry dog food and she’s happy!

After being diagnosed with pancreatitis, I switched to this dog food. What I first noticed was my normally picky dog gobbled the food down and beggedfor more. He still loves it. Additionally, all his pancreatic issues resolved itself and he has returned to good health. My one issue is it seems that he is so much smellier than he used to be. I wonder if the fish is causing that smell. Does anyone else notice this? Otherwise, I love the brand

My cattle dog's gut was no longer processing fat so the vet put her on a low fat diet. She gets more kibble now but it is lower in calorie and her poops are normal

Good for a dog who’s allergic to chicken?

This food is good for my dog as she’s allergic to chicken, but has a problem with a pancreas.

Our 13-year-old mutt has pancreatitis so our veterinarian recommended this dry dog food. He seems to like it and we know it’s healthy for him, so it’s a win win

My dog loves this!!

We got diagnosed with severe pancreatitis a few weeks ago and now have to do the low fat food. I compared all the ones the vet’s try and push but they all have meat byproduct as the main ingredients and I wanted something with real food. I was hesitant because of some of the reviews and the vet wasn’t real excited to write a script for this, but we are a week in and my terrier mix LOVES this food. She even prefers it over all the wet food! I know vets get kickbacks for hills science diet and canin so just make sure your food has REAL ingredients in it for your baby! I have been mixing this with a sweet potato, broccoli, carrot, celery, and green bean blend and she can’t get enough. Plus not a single flare up! So far so good!
