Pricey but worth it
By Lucyb on Nov 23, 2020
So glad chewy stocks this food! I have a feline that despises all forms of fowl and, while she used to eat duck and lamb, she wont eat them alone. She is a pate beef eater. I have had nothing but trouble trying to find a quality beef cat food since the previous brand she used to eat (Whole Earth foods) quite suddenly and without explanation stopped selling their beef formula about a year ago. I was left in a lurch spending a fortune trying every brand on the market for a new food but it seems everyone only makes food with chicken in their recipes. It seems there is no other brand on the market that makes beef. Oh, there are a few that say they are beef (with chicken, and turkey etc); however So glad chewy stocks this food! I was left in a lurch spending a fortune trying every brand on the market for a new food but it seems everyone only makes food with chicken in their recipes. It seems there is no other brand on the market that makes beef. Oh, there are a few that say they are beef (with chicken, and turkey etc); however, it you look at the labels, the ingredients list beef as the fourth or fifth ingredient and it’s usually broth! Or, they have questionable other ingredients like potato starch, dried ground peas, dried kelp, and blueberries. Which all sounds fine and somewhat delicious to me, a human, but completely unnecessary (and unwanted) for my obligate carnivore feline. Whole Earth did start reselling beef again a few months ago. Their “Real Beef Recipe” now includes chicken. I was forced to start feeding my cat a tuna recipe which she eats quite voraciously. I’m not as happy with it as she is though. I dont feel comfortable with fish recipes and also the recipe seems to be very ‘wet’ which makes me feel like I’m paying for a lot of water. So this Canada Fresh is quite a welcome find! It comes in large 13oz cans which i like very much as it makes for less trash waste. It is VERY dense and has the consistency of dog food (!) if I’m being honest, but i dont mind this at all because i would much rather add my own water to thin it out and know i paid for food and not water because it is NOT a cheap food. My cat prefers a pate’ and this brand is a bit ‘grittier’ than any other brand we have tried. This has been a bit of an adjustment but i still mix it with the previous tuna/beef brand she has been eating. I smash it in her metal bowl with a spoon to lessen the ‘grit’ feel before i mix in her old food. Full disclosure, it is a bit hard when its cold from the refrigerator, so i have to put it in her bowl and then put that bowl over a bowl of hot water to soften it to work with it. It sounds like a bit of work but its worth it. It’s meat and vitamins and minerals. Nothing unnecessary (except for agar-agar!) nothing else, that’s what I like best. … more

Great food, but skimped cans
By MooseMomma on Apr 12, 2020
My itchy cat and my picky cat are both enjoying this food. I'm really particular what I feed, and with one cat having severe allergies my choices are very limited but this seems to be going really well. My only complaint is that the cans are labeled as 13 Oz, but they are consistently between 12 and 12.25 ounces of yield.

Way pricey--but my cats love it
By KYB53 on Feb 12, 2020
I had been curious about this brand--and it is a definite hit. Sadly I won't be able to buy this very often due to the fact that it is ridiculously expensive.

Cat loves the food

Be careful opening the lid! The tabs break off easily and your left digging food out!

sticky poop
By Mena on Jun 26, 2019
My cats had really sticky and slimy stool after they ate the food. And they became kinda lazy and sleepy. I will change back to ziwi peak. It’s more expensive but my cats were more energetic and healthy when they eat ziwi peak.

It’s tough to find beef cat food that cats like
By Catlover1404 on May 18, 2019
We have five cats and like to rotate proteins and brands. For some reason, beef flavor is tough to get right in our house. This mixes beef and lamb. The cats love it. The ingredients seem good.

Formula has changed
By Bill on Jan 14, 2019
Just bought 5 cans yesterday, and the cans have a lot of liquid in them now compared to before, spilt all over me when I opened it. I hate paying for less product and more liquid, I will be changing to something else.

Good Ingredients
By AllTheCats on Oct 23, 2018
I like the ingredients in this food. And my cats seem to like it. They are eating it without trying to bury their bowls or screaming at me after I offer it to them. Trying to find the right balance between healthy, good food and affording to feed 8 little monsters. The only con is that the 13oz cans have a lip on the inside, so it makes scooping food out of the can difficult.

Cat kept his distance and did not even sniff
By AdoptGeriatricCats on Sep 18, 2018
My picky 16 yr. old couldn't walk away fast enough. This food's fat content is about the same percentage as its protein which makes the pate a thick, gluey mess. I'm sure loading up on fat is a cost-saving measure for the manufacturer, but it certainly can't be good for any feline's health.

Smells good
By Alleycat on Jul 19, 2018
It smells really good and my cat likes it. It is very expensive but I have a cat allergic to poultry and other brands might say beef or pork on the front of can but have chkn broth or liver in the ingredients. He was starting to refuse the salmon, so, to give him a break I tried this. For me the cost is prohibitive and cannot afford for this to be a regular purchase. One thing that concerned me was the amount of liquid in the can. It was almost like applesauce. I contacted the company to say that if they made their food more dense, we can add some water to soften it to desired consistency rather than pay for shipping their water in the cans. Customer service was very friendly and thanked me It smells really good and my cat likes it.
