Carprofen (Generic) Flavored Tablets for Dogs
Prescription Item
Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again.
Carprofen is prescribed to relieve pain and inflammation caused by arthritis and other joint problems, so you can help your dog maintain her regular activity levels and quality of life. Carprofen may also help to reduce pain associated with surgeries and other painful conditions, and works by limiting your dog's production of prostaglandins, which are substances that can trigger inflammation. And since these tablets have a wag-worthy beef flavor, your dog won't mind taking his medication!
UsesCarprofen is indicated for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain associated with soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs.
Possible Side EffectsCarprofen is tolerated well in the vast majority of dogs, and the risk for side effects occurring appears to be less than 1%. But rarely, serious side effects (stomach ulcers, liver, or kidney problems) and sometimes death have been reported.
Side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem:
- Decrease or increase in appetite (eating less or more than normal), vomiting, changes in bowel movements (such as diarrhea, or black, tarry or bloody stools).
- Changes in behavior or activity levels (more or less active than normal), incoordination/weakness (eg, stumbling, clumsiness), seizure (convulsions) or aggression (threatening behavior/actions).
- Yellowing of gums, skin, or whites of the eyes (jaundice).
- Changes in drinking habits (frequency, amount consumed) or urination habits (frequency, color, or smell).
- Changes in skin (redness, scabs, or itchiness).
If you see any of these signs, stop giving the drug and contact your veterinarian immediately.
Drug & Food InteractionsNo known drug interactions have been reported.
Precautions
This class of drug may be associated with gastrointestinal, renal and hepatic toxicity. When nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs inhibit prostaglandins that cause inflammation they may also inhibit those prostaglandins which maintain normal homeostatic function. This may result in clinically significant disease in pets with underlying or pre-existing disease more often than in healthy pets. The use of parenteral fluids during surgery should be considered to reduce the potential risk of renal complications when using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs perioperatively.

Storage InstructionsStore at controlled room temperatures between 68° - 77°F.
What is Carprofen?
Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication that helps relieve the pain and inflammation that occurs with arthritis in dogs. It also helps bring relief from other joint problems and can help your pet to feel better after surgery. Carprofen is the generic alternative to Rimadyl, Novox, and Vetprofen.
How is this medication given?
Carprofen can be given once a day or it can be split into twice daily dosing. Your veterinarian will determine the dosage of medication and the frequency at which it should be given. Give this medication by mouth (orally). Gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea may be minimized if Carprofen is given with food. Carprofen should be given at the lowest dose necessary to help your dog to feel better. You should never administer Carprofen to a pet other than the one for which it has been prescribed for.
How does it work?
Chemicals in the body called prostaglandins are reduced with Carprofen. Since prostaglandins trigger inflammation, minimizing them helps decrease inflammation and pain that occurs as a result of arthritis, surgery, and other joint conditions.
What results can I expect?
Symptoms of arthritis include stiffness, trouble walking, and difficulty rising. These symptoms can be relieved with Carprofen although this medication will not cure arthritis since there is no known cure for this chronic condition. Your dog should start to feel better although results vary in each individual. If you discontinue Carprofen you may notice your dogs symptoms returning.

They break easily and great price
By Doggiemom on Apr 9, 2021
I don't know what is with the reviews about people complaining how they're hard to break. I've never had trouble breaking these and I've been ordering them for a couple of years or so. Most times I can just break with my fingers and split it perfectly in half. But I also have a pill cutter which works well. Perhaps these people have a pill cutter that is not properly cutting pills and I should get a different one. I don't know but ignore anyone that says difficult to break. Product works great, it's a great price, it's convenient to have it delivered, and you can split them in half no problem.

Not a good choice!
By generic on Mar 23, 2021
The dosage for my dog was 37mg twice a day. So I ordered the 75 mg tablet thinking I could easily split them. Well they are not easily splitable. I tried pill cutters, sharp knives, nothing worked. Most of them broke into a bunch of little pieces. So I have all these little pieces thatshe won't eat because she must have tasted them at one point. What a waste of money.

Not chewable
By DogMom on Apr 7, 2021
I ordered these from chewy as they are 1/3 of the price than they are from our Vet. They are not the same chewable tablet our dogs love as treats we get from the vet. One of our dogs will take it as a treat but the other one spits it out. A good value if your dog will take it, I may need to order from the vet for my lab.

Second time to order
By Zoey on Mar 9, 2021
This is my second order for this because it works great and is so much cheaper than getting it at the vet. The first time the tablets were easy to break. This second batch is harder. I tried to use a pill cutter and they crumbled and then I read another review explaining how to hold the pill and it broke perfectly. Zoey is 14 with arthritis from an accident that caused a neck issue. With this pill and the help of a wonderful chiropractor she is doing great for 14, very active and happy! All I can hope for.

Great Price, Fast Results
By GenericOverBrand on Apr 5, 2021
Huge savings buying the generic online compared to the brand name drug via my vet. And the effect in alleviating my dog's chronic pain was startling within less than a week. My only regret was not doing this sooner. He's running down steps that he didn't want to walk down a week ago.

Thrilled, Thrilled, Thrilled!!
By Davejostef on Feb 25, 2021
Thanks for having this med at such a great price! Our Golden needs this med to relieve his pain and he'll be on it long term. I checked here to find this is offered at a quarter of the price I've been paying locally so I immediately ordered. Ordering process was fast and easy and I had this within days; whereas buying locally, I had some supply "issues" that were NOT a good thing. Thanks for having this med to help us with our pets who have pain issues.

The price and results are just right!!
By Layla on Mar 29, 2021
After shopping around, Chewy dog med's were the best priced and the quality is excellent. The ship time to me was only 2 days and they do all the paperwork with my Vet....I just provided the information. My dogs arthritis pain has much improved with this medication. Will definitely refill with Chewy!!!

Cannot divide this hard pill
By Leslie on Apr 3, 2021
My dog needs 50mg twice a day. I guess the "Flavored" description threw me and I assumed they would be soft. These pills are not meant to be cut in half. I will get either the chewable (which I am thinking are more easily cut) or 25mg and double my quantity if I refill here again.

Substitute not as good as real thing
By Bandit on Apr 1, 2021
Bandit doing okay on the Generic Carprofen but we will be glad when original is back. He won't take unless hidden in food just like Carprofen. Being flavored did nothing to get him to take straight. It's working ok but would rather have Carprofen next prescription.

Arthritis hips
By Smoken on Mar 1, 2021
My dog is almost 13 and a large 80 pound female. She has been taking carprofen for her arthritis in her hips which has really helped her over the last couple years. Almost too much as she over chased her tennis ball and tore her cruciate ligament. With the carprofen, brace and added supplements she is getting around quite well for her age and size. Realize there may be side effects but with her age she is doing quite well.
