Instructions
  1. Place template in desired position on door and draw round it. (We recommend the bottom of the hole is approximately level with your pet’s stomach.)
  2. Use an electric jig-saw to cut along inside of drawn line. Be careful to cut hole square to the door, particularly with thicker doors. Ensure frames are free-fitting in hole.
  3. Determine thickness of door panel (t).
  4. If necessary, cut interior frame (frame without swinging flap) to correct length with sharp knife. Keep hands clear of blade and support inside of moulding with a suitable piece of wood.
  5. For door panels 0 - 7/8 inches thick
  6. Position interior frame on inside of door and mark four screw positions.
  7. Remove frame and drill screw clearance holes in panel to approximately 3/16 inch diameter.
  8. Select appropriate screws.
  9. Position exterior frame on outside of door. Screw interior frame to it by using appropriate screw for panel thickness (t) (see Fig. 8). Finally, fit screw caps.
  10. For door panels 7/8 inches+ thick
  11. Drill out four screw holes in exterior frame to allow close clearance on screws. (Recommended drill 3/16 inch diameter).
  12. Screw interior frame on inside of door, using short 1/2 inch screws.
  13. Screw exterior frame on outside of door using 3/4 inch screws. Finally, fit screw caps.

  • I am glad my boyfriend is a handyman...

    By on

The magnetic closure works great, I love how it helps keep the cold air out. I am still training the cats to use it, but I think some of their hesitance is the winter weather outside... Great size for bigger cats. One of my cats is rather large, and I am glad I got this size. He's very tall (plus about 13-14lbs) and I cant imagine a smaller one working well. The directions are a pain point for the item. Very small & hard to read, and not always fully clear. My partner is a handyman (thankfully) and it even took him multiple power tools and a bit of time to get it installed in our outside door. It's not impossible, but would be very challenging for someone without much experience. The The magnetic closure works great, I love how it helps keep the cold air out. • Nice cat door!

    By on

My husband installed this door and had no complaints about the hardware or instructions. And we are glad we bought this size for our larger cat who is 16-17 pounds. Our two cats are using this door now, but only because we've propped open the flap. Our smaller cat is intimidated by the strong magnetic closure! What would be GREAT is if TWO styles of door could be made. One with the strong closure for an inside/outside door (for wind and cold) AND one for an inside/inside door. If we could have purchased such an inside/inside door, it would have been a full five stars for this product.

  • Cat loves it

Bought this for the exterior door into the garage. The cats figured out how to use it quickly and it has worked great. I'm surprised by how well it keeps out the cool air. The door is white so it is visually pleasing as well. The only down side that I see is the installation. The skills required to create the initial hole in the door are a bit complex. Although I have the tools and skills required, I can see where many people would struggle with this part or have to hire someone to install the door.

  • Purrfect and stylish

Felicia likes to hide under my bed, but since my new roommate brings her bible friends once in a while, while l am at work, l felt l had to close the door to my room and still give my cat access to her favorite spot. This door is just perfect, it looks neat and while l had to keep the flap open she is gotten use to it pretty quickly. Really a great value, very well made. Totally happy with this purchase.

  • Cat won't escape now.

    By on

Latches on each side prevent Buttercup from pushing hard on either the side of the flap, wedging his arm in then pulling the flap inward and escaping. Old cat door had a single, center latch and was useless. This one also has a magnet to prevent wind from blowing the flap open. Made in the UK, where cats rule.

  • Awesome product

I love it. Took one time to show my cat his new door. We did have to use longer screws to assemble it. The screws that it came with were not long enough. only downfall.

  • Good quality

This is a good quality door with good instructions to put it in. I have a big cat so that is why I went with this door. Following the other reviews, this is the one to get.

This is a great door. It's big enough for your outdoor cats to grow. Easy to install and allows you many options for entry and exit.

  • Compare and contrast

I purchased this product (Cat Mate 75283 ref: 221w) because it has a replaceable flap. I was hoping it would be large enough to cover the hole in my door from a previous PetSafe 89196 cat doors. Happy to report that it is just barely (2-3mm) big enough to cover the edges of the cut out I made for the petsafe door. You can see the outline of the old door in my photos. I had to slightly enlarge the bottom corner area as this door is more square and the old door was rounder. I've had two of the old doors, both of them were broken by having a cat run through them while locked. It destroys the flap. At least this way I can just get a new flap if it happens again. It looks very nice in the solid lower portion of my screen door. I liked how the PetSafe doors use bolts and nuts to connect, this only uses screws into the outer plastic frame. It should be fine as there is not a lot of stress on that, time will tell. I like how the door is transparent, previous door was frosted except for the very center around the name. Cats will be able to see what is on the other side with this one. There is a gasket on the exterior portion that is hidden once attached to the screen door. I like that because the PetSafe door was leaking and there was moss growing in the cut out. Installation was simple, I was a little confused at some of the pictures on the cut out template, but found they were explained by the written directions in the bag with the screws and then they made good sense. (t) stands for thickness, btw. Overall, I am pleased with this product. … more

  • Open Door for Two

    By on

Super for two cats going to their basement box without opening the access door. Only problem it may be difficult to install for the average person with no shop experience. You must cut through the door with shop tools and line up properly.
