How large is the opening for the cut?

I have 4 Great Danes with bear like claws. Very thick and black. Would these cut through the nail? It’s really hard to find a sharp strong and wide enough opening clips for my dogs nails.

Answer by ChewyAug 26, 2021
These Large clippers are designed for use with medium and large breeds who have thick, strong nails.

I am not as strong as I was at one time and am finding it had to have the strength for most clippers. Would the following clippers need to less hand strength?

Answer by ChewyApr 20, 2019
This clipper's ergonomic grip allows comfortable and proper 45-degree angle for accurate trim without too much strain on your hand.

Where are they made

Answer by ChewyJun 27, 2019

I was disappointed in these CHI Nail Clippers

I was hoping they would work well on my Bouvier's nails but instead they left a very jagged cut and felt like they were crushing the nail instead of a straight cut

I was hoping they would work well on my Bouvier's nails but instead they left a very jagged cut and felt like they were crushing the nail instead of a straight cut. I stopped using them immediately after the third try and went back to using the clippers that I had.

Large/X large Dogs

These work so much better than any others I've tried for my doberman's their nails are usually pretty thick and with the other ones I struggled to be able to get

These work so much better than any others I've tried for my doberman's their nails are usually pretty thick and with the other ones I struggled to be able to get them to cut they were either too flimsy or I couldn't put enough pressure into the handles to get them to cut but not with these it makes it easy.

Average

Have purchased several nail clippers for my Pittie with tree trunk nails and had high expectations for these but they are just average. Clippers struggle slightly

Have purchased several nail clippers for my Pittie with tree trunk nails and had high expectations for these but they are just average. Clippers struggle slightly to get through his nails, thought they would cut through with ease. His nails also still crack and peel as they have with other clippers. The metal handles also scratch easily and came with scratches already on them. Wouldn't recommend for tough dog nails but would work well for medium size dogs.

Hefty

Our boy has some thiiick black nails, and these were able to slice through without causing either of us pain. Highly recommend.

It only took us 5 years to find dog toenail clippers that can stand up to our Great Dane's humongous toenails. We have had many pairs labeled for large/giant breeds break and had to resort to a large pair of cable cutters. (Not ideal but worked) Took him to the vet and their clippers weren't strong enough either and he broke a couple pairs there and it cost me over 200 dollars because it also took the entire office to hold him and trim them. We even tried the Dremel and well scardy cat did what scardy cat does and took off like someone bit him in the butt. Yet stands beside me as I do my own nails with them. These are large enough and strong enough to do the job with less than a total melt down from all 3 of us, the cutter, the holder, and the giant fur baby.

Spring mechanism needs improvement

Cuts nice. But the release after the cut needs improvement. After the cut, the clipper stays "closed", requiring a manual release. Trying to accomplish this while

Cuts nice. But the release after the cut needs improvement. After the cut, the clipper stays "closed", requiring a manual release. Trying to accomplish this while the clipper is closed is a pain. Especially if the cut is not complete, which happens often, and the clippers and nail are still attached to the dog.

Difficult to use

Due to their design, these are difficult to use unless your dog stays perfectly still. They are also not meant for large dogs at all

Almost perfect

Handles provide great grip. Nice and sharp, and the guide gives you more confidence. They fit my wife’s hands perfectly, but I’m 6 foot and they’re a little small

Scary

These are too bulky and too loud. The sound of the spring when you squeeze them is very loud and it scares my dogs.
