I have older dogs two of which gain weight easily. Does senior food have less calories? They currently eat the regular of this brand and I have to keep cutting back.
Answer by ChewyNov 07, 2017
This Food contains 318 kilocalories per cup. The Diamond Naturals Large Breed Adult Chicken & Rice Formula Dry Dog Food contains 327 kilocalories per cup.

I am interested in this food for my senior pup. How many cups can I get per pound?
Answer by ChewyJun 25, 2018
There's approximately 24 cups of food in the 6 pound bag, 72 cups of food in the 18 pound bag, and 140 cups of food in the 35 pound bag.

Is the guaranteed analysis measeured by kg? Then a serving size is mesured in cups. If I save my senior dog one cup a day how much glucosamine and chondroitin would he be consuming a day?
Answer by ChewyApr 01, 2018
The guaranteed analysis of the food goes mostly by milligrams and one cup serving. If one cup is served then your dog would get 720 mg/kg min of Glucosamine and 240 mg/kg min of Chondroitin.

What age do you consider senior for this food?
Answer by ChewyNov 05, 2017
Senior formulas should be given to pet's that are at least 7 years old.

Pretty good

I have a 14 year old miniature pinscher I've had on this food for about 6 or so months. He surprisingly doesn't have many issues, just a bit of joint pain but he gets supplements for that. The size is great, and I always rehydrate his food with bone broth and since they're small donut shaped kibble it takes way less time than his previous kibble. Overall, it's fine; I don't think it was a miracle food but it is a decent food for the price. It's comparable to some of the more expensive brands, and if you have a dog that doesn't have many food or dietary restrictions it's definitely worth trying

Dogs won't eat it.

Don't know why but my three dogs won't eat this food. Gave it to my sister for her dog and she won't touch it either. Stuck with a big bag of food. Purchased this because of the good reviews.

Great dog food!

I've had my dog on Diamond Naturals for years. I switched my 12yo pooch to Senior food not long ago. He loves it! I am getting a 9 week old puppy tomorrow 3 31 22 and I am switching her from Puppy Chow to Diamond Naturals puppy food. I believe in this brand!

Great Dog Food

We just switched our aging dog to the Senior Formula dog food - and he loves it. Seems to be hitting the flavor spot and hopefully the added nutrients will make his aging process all the easier!

Diamond Senior Dog Food Great Formula and Size for All Types of Dogs

My two elderly and picky Shih Tzu’s ages 12 and 15 really like this kibble due to the size and taste. I love the brilliant formula which includes a higher composition for hip and joint than most other brands for seniors. I’ll continue to purchase if it remains affordable

New Tricks for Ol Pups

We have three Texas Heeler loveable muts and we switched from various blends of Taste of the Wild when our female Ziggy lost her appetite for it. I noticed they were getting chubby, gassy and limpy. They are 11 and 12 years old now. Whole Dog Journal usually gives Diamond pretty good reviews so I decided to give this senior food a try. The ingredients are very impressive. This is our second bag. We feed less and our dogs look great and are doing the play bow to each other like they used to as pups which is so cute, they are running more and farting less lol. We are really impressed. Most importantly, our EPI heeler Hank has transitioned perfectly to this kibble using daily pig enzyme and supplements, which is huge! Thank you Diamond for thinking of the older puppers who are perfect in every way.

Highly Recommend

My very old dog had lost interest in food, and had settled into eating just enough to get by. I’d tried different types of dog food, but none truly sparked an interest until I started feeding this. She is now eager to eat, which is such a relief!

Pups love it!

So for the past few years I was feeding my pups Merrick Senior dog food mixed with a home made puree of pumpkin, sweet potato, carrots and celery and chicken chunks. My pups would usually leave some of the Merrick dry dog food over but I didn't think much of it, they probably got full. Recently Merricks Senior Lil' Plates for small breed has been out of stock everywhere and they were running low on their recent bag. So I did a little research and read great things about Diamond senior. Since my pups are seniors and have a few teeth removed, I prefer to get the smaller sizes pellets for them. I was skeptical about getting this at first since it doesn't specify they are for small breeds but after receiving it, they're the perfect size! They're flat disc shaped with a hole in the middle, like a donut. My pups love the food. They devour every bite and leave nothing behind. I'd say they enjoy it more than Merrick's! I 100% recommend this food for your pets.

Best senior food I've tried

I have 3 small dogs under 25 lbs. The smallest and oldest will be 15 next month. She was starting to develop mobility issues having trouble climbing steps to our home. A friend purchased Cosequin chews for her. That seemed to help. But then she started coughing. I took her to the vet but the vet couldn't find any obvious problems. I purchased this Diamond naturals food and have been so pleased. All 3 dogs are thriving on it and my oldest is hardly coughing. I will take her to the vet for a follow-up visit but wanted to express how wonderful this product is.
