Is there a chance that this food is contaminated in processing (eg on same machines) with other sources of meat protein? My dog needs to be on an elimination diet without ANY other meat protein.

Zignature uses a three-step cleaning process, after each recipe is produced. First, they thoroughly clean all the equipment. Second, they produce 750 pounds of the new recipe and then destroy all of it. Third, they make an additional 100 pounds of the new recipe and then package and discard it. This three-step process both cleans the equipment and flushes out any of the previous formula’s ingredients before the new recipe is produced.

Where is the Kangaroo meat processed and packaged?

Zignature develops and crafts their recipes with nutritionists and food scientists and make their products in Perham, Minnesota, and Mitchell, South Dakota. They source ingredients from quality sources around the world. The Trout, Salmon and Whitefish come from the Pacific Northwest; Turkey from the Midwestern United States; farm-raised Duck from Western France; Lamb from the farmlands of New Zealand; and Kangaroo comes from Australia. In addition, fruits and vegetables are from farms across North America, depending on the growing seasons; Vitamins and Minerals come from both North America and France.

Does Zignature offer any limited ingredient options with smaller kibble? Switched my Shih Tzu over to this per my vet's recommendation, but the kibble is pretty large.

At this time, Zignature doesn't make a small breed kibble formula. This food is formulated for small, medium and large breed dogs. You can mix the dry kibble with wet food to make it easier for your small dog to chew.

Be careful

I switched my dog to the whitefish flavor back in June to hopefully clear up some skin issues she's been having. This is when some new skin issues started occurring,

I switched my dog to the whitefish flavor back in June to hopefully clear up some skin issues she's been having. This is when some new skin issues started occurring, like bumps on her lip line. I thought maybe she was sensitive to at least one of the fish used in this. The vet recommended switching to the kangaroo flavor to hopefully resolve any allergies, but the issues have persisted despite medications also. I now have also noticed her losing some weight she didn't need to lose, despite her really seeming to enjoy it. So, I looked into it further and realized this brand is recommending 200 calories less per day than her previous brand. After googling, it seems their calorie recommendations for a 60lb dog is actually more suitable for a 50lb dog. I'm quite irritated by this as I thought making sure the calories are right was the whole point of feeding recommendations.

The limited ingredient and the option of a protein meat that is less likely to cause a allergic reaction. My little bullterrier has environmental allergies and going through immunotherapy but has also developed meat allergies. I've tried several "no allergy" Hydrolyzed protein diets the vet has put him on and he still would break out in hives. I decided to research and try him on this and it has been a life saver for us! No more hives and break outs. Definitely worth it.
