Best but changed formula
My kitty loves this formula. Scarfs it down and licks plate clean. I open can and smells so good I bet I could even eat it in an apocalypse. Sadly, they changed the formula and only provide in 2.5 oz can....she won't eat it and has lost weight. When will they bring original formula back and 5.3 oz can?
Good ingredients, but my kitty won't eat it
Dr. Elsey's was suggested to me by a number of people with kitties suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). I tried it with my IBD kitty, but she didn't like the smell or texture. That being said, it does have very high quality ingredients and the novel proteins can be useful for allergy issues, so I still suggest this food.
The Best Food For Health
Cookie, my 8 yr old Maine Coon, was suffering from a bladder stone 2 yrs ago which was healed with meds. The vet told me that this condition may return. That’s when I discovered Dr. Elsey’s Clean Protein. I’ve been feeding this food ever since. She LOVES it! On our recent visit to the vet, Cookie had an x-ray, urine & blood test. There was no sign of urinary issues & we got a clean bill of health. I attribute that to her diet.
Healthy, but dry
Our cat isn't very keen on this food; it's much drier than I had expected, so we need to add three tablespoons of water to get him to eat any of it, and even then he does so reluctantly.
Both my cats love it
For the price it's very good! both my cats love it. Most importantly, my cat with sensitive stomach doesn't throw up!
OK, but I wish they would make more of their plain turkey formula
My cats do still like this kind, but the phosphorous content is higher than the plain turkey formula- and we try to limit our girls phosphorus intake due to her kidney failure. This formula also seemed to have many more small chunks of bone than the other formula. I am not necessarily sure that is a bad thing though.. it stands to reason that a feral cat would eat small bones normally and digest them for calcium.
None of my kitties will eat this flavor :-(
Purchased this flavor because Dr. E's Turkey was out of stock & my IBD kitty cant eat chicken. Not only were almost half of the cans in the case dented, one had obvious swelling to the can and was immediately disposed of. Dented cans seems to be the norm these days and does not make me happy. Regardless of the dented can conditions, not one of my cats would eat this flavor -- even the cat who usually enjoys the Turkey flavor. YMMV but I will not buy this flavor again
cuckoo for durkey
Both of our purr-monsters love it. One is almost 20 and the other one is 7. They also liked the turkey, and were okay with the chicken, so maybe they are just not that picky? We mix with the Primal Nugget Chicken & Salmon.
Thankfully my cat accepted this turkey/duck flavor with no problem as our 1st choice of turkey alone has been out of stock for weeks, which has me very worried about the future of Dr Elsey’s Cleanprotein. It is the best! also responsible for my cat’s stable diabetes and weight loss. Without artificial preservatives found in prescription diet food!
Senior cats say, “Yum”!
I mainly feed raw, but my seniors weren’t eating enough and needed something that was good for them and that they would actually eat. One has recently been diagnosed with CKD, so a low phosphorus food is a must. According to Dr. Elsey’s this food has a phosphorus content of 0.63% on a dry matter basis. My seniors gobbled this up and some of the other cats wanted some too. I will be putting this food in my rotation.
