Vet Formulated with Quality Ingredients

This high-protein food naturally optimizes your cat’s body mass and appetite levels through simple, high-quality ingredients. With added vitamins, minerals, and other trace nutrients, cleanprotein helps support cats in all stages of life.

Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein

Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein was inspired by the protein levels found in natural prey. By excluding plants commonly found in other cat diets, it has low oxalate to help ensure healthy kidney function and an active lifestyle.

The Kibble Cats Love

Protein is an important nutritional profile in your cat’s diet, with animal proteins having the highest biological values (BV) compared to grains, fruits, and vegetables. Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein helps promote a healthy, active lifestyle for all cats.

The Proof is in the Protein

As cats age, they absorb and metabolize protein less efficiently. That’s why it’s so important to feed high-quality protein. High protein can help maintain lean body mass and support a healthy immune system.

About Dr. Elsey’s

Dr. Elsey’s is a veterinarian-owned brand dedicated to meeting the complex needs of cats. Founded in 1987 with the first all-natural clumping cat litter, their line has since grown to include a variety of products for cats at every stage of life.

What is the calcium to phosphorous ratio of the turkey recipe?

Do any ingredients in this food have anything to do with China.... i.e. sourced from, produced, manufactured or come from China?

Answer by ChewyNov 11, 2019
All of the protein is sourced in the US, however as with many pet foods, some of the vitamins and minerals are not manufactured in the US. Sometimes the Taurine in Dr. Elsey's food can be sourced from China, as it is hard to find from other sources. Dr. Elsey's is very selective with the selection of each vendor to ensure the value of their food remains consistent and safe. They hold vendors to the same manufacturing standards that we have in the US.

What is the phosphorus level in the wet canned Dr. Elsey clean protein turkey cat food?

Answer by ChewySep 19, 2020
This formula contains a Phosphorous level of 1.46% on a dry matter basis.

What is the "natural flavor" ingredient?

Answer by ChewyOct 10, 2018
The natural flavor is a liver based palatant for cats.

Hoping it's just a Fussy Cat Thing, but...

I feed a lot of different animals. I purchased this for my adopted kitties and neither one of them would touch the stuff. I support feral kitties too, they concurred. The support at Chewy is really good, which makes leaving a poor review even more difficult, but good quality food is so difficult to find, and such an expensive endeavor trying to find it, I've GOT to put my notes here in case others are running into the same issue and so I don't mistakenly purchase this again. A resoundning NO, even from the FAR less fussy Feral Cats. I gave it an extra start simply for coming in packaging that can be recycled, which we really need to encourage & support manufacturers to do, but the food itself was a giant flop.

Dr Elseys was a favorite for all my cats for years. Unfortunately they reformulated their recipes. I contacted them and Dr Elseys told me the 2.75 cans had not changed. However when compared ingredients they definitely have changed these as well. My cats don’t care for the new turkey recipe and it is too high in phosphorus for one of my cats now..

They just changed the formula without saying anything. The cans I purchased from two months ago had more dense and had higher calories. New cans as shown in pic, soft, more like loaf. Just be aware. Gonna looking for some alternatives.

I was thrilled when my youngest cat liked the duck flavored food. My oldest cat is pre diabetic and on a strict diet. I assumed they would enjoy the turkey. Neither one of them will come close to it & my smallest cat kept trying to cover it up like it belonged in the cat box. There's a stark difference in her response to this flavor compared to the duck. Disappointingly a complete fail

My 14 1/2 year old IBD kitty didn't like the texture of this one as much as the Dr. Elsey's Duck/Turkey. I decided to try this one on a whim because both the sodium and phosphorus were slightly lower. Sadly it just wasn't a hit. At first I thought she liked it well enough but later learned she didn't. I can agree with some of the comments on it appearing dry and you almost need to break it up to make it palatable. Anyway, I will be donating these cans.

My cat loves turkey more than any other meat and the ingredients are great. However, everytime I order these I always have a bad can where the food is rancid and the can explodes. shouldn’t be happening this often so I think the company has a problem with their can machine. I can’t afford to throw a can away everytime when these are very expensive and this economy is getting worse.

Kitty will not eat

Cassie hates this new can food. I have tried everything and she'll pick around it. Guess I will be donating to pet rescue.
