Answer by ChewyJun 26, 2018
Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Respiratory Relief Clumping Clay Cat Litter has all of the benefits of the Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Clumping Cat Litter with the addition of being hypo-allergenic, and having no perfumes, deodorants or plant proteins. The 99.9% dust free formula also includes natural essences to reduce stress.

what is the difference between this litter and the classic version?
Answer by ChewyJun 14, 2018
Precious Cat Classic is Dr. Elsey’s original litter and is very popular with cat owners who want a hard clumping, low tracking litter. It features a larger, denser particle that stays in the litter box better than fine grain litters. Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Clumping Cat Litter is a unique formulation that combines the heavy non-tracking granules of Precious Cat Classic with a medium-grain clay. The result is an excellent clumping litter that prevents moisture from reaching the bottom of the tray while providing a clump that will not break down, and is perfect for multi-cat households.

Can this liter be used with an self cleaning cat box?
Answer by ChewyApr 07, 2018
Some self-cleaning litter boxes are made for use with a high quality clumping litter, such as this. It is recommended to check the manual to determine if this litter would be suitable for your specific litter box.

Dr. Elsey's litter

I have had many kitties over the years and like most people have tried to find a litter that keeps odor under control, low dust or none , little tracking and low or no perfume smell. So I keep switching. Well no more. I love, love love this litter. We have 3 cats which require a least 3 litter boxes and one is in bedroom due to an elderly cat. We do scoop twice a day which takes about 5 minutes. There is no odor coming from the boxes, easy to scoop and is very low dust if any. It does track some out of the box which is the only con; however we sweep quickly right back on the mat every couple days. Given all the other benefits, I will take the few pieces of stray litter over no odor. I have also never found a litter that doesn't track some.. Buy this litter

Not happy with this brand

No dust but I'm not happy with this cat litter. I scoop twice a day and it's never been a problem but now it is quite the chore. The litter is made of clay and its just like clay when it get wet. Sticks to the the sides and bottom of the pan. I have to dig and scrape to get it off. After three days I have to replenish even if there is still 3 inches in it, because the odor gets strong. I was happy with the brand I used but its harder to find it now. But I'm done with this product.

Seems that Clumping Litter Has Changed

I have been buying various brands of clumping litter for many years but in the last few years all brands I have used seem to have changed in quality. Unfortunately this brand was no exception. I have not been able to find a clumping litter that works as it should. Every litter I have tried of late just turns into a brick-like mess in the bottom of the cat box. I spilled some out in my yard and it became a terrible, sticky mess that stuck to my shoes.

So far so good

I have been using pine pellets for the last year and half and as much as I enjoyed the low price and lessened litter box odors, my cat tracked these pellets everywhere and stepping on them with bare feet can be painful. I didn't want to go back to the clumping litter I had been using so I did some research and decided to try Dr. Elsey. I am very pleased, as is Hachi (thankful he lets me mess with his litter and doesn't get upset). It clumps very well, doesn't get stuck on his fur and doesn't get everywhere. Low dust, great coverage. It goes a long way, making the cost worth it.

Good odor control BUT…

This litter is great at odor control and is not as dusty as other litters I’ve tried BUT it TRACKS like no one’s business! I am finding cat litter ALL OVER MY house, on floors, on my furniture… it’s honestly grossing me out. I’m going to have to search for something else because it’s disgusting to find litter in my bed.

Not impressed.

I am not at all impressed with this litter. I have been using it in an automatic litter box (the kind with the rake), and this litter makes a giant mess. It doesn't clump very well and it sticks in the rake. It leaves little trails in the litter box too. I wouldn't complain if this were a common problem, but it really isn't. I've been using the Frisco litter and it works super well. I'm going back to that. I had high hopes!

Ultra unscented clumping clay cat litter

I will not buy this product again. While my cat could bury his poop, much of it lay on top. The most objectionable thing is that urine (though solidified) was stuck to the bottom of the litter pan. It took a lot of scraping to dislodge it. Also, litter was scattered around the room and anywhere my cat walked.

great product but

package arrived in a large box, I opened the box and found that the litter bag had a tear right in the middle, not on a seam. Luckily not very much litter had fallen out of it and I noticed the tear before removing it from the box. The shipping box looks fine, so it seems the tear was there when it was packed.

Something Isn’t Right

I have been using Dr. Elsey’s litter for years, but lately, it isn’t clumping right at all. Scooping has become the bane of my existence. The clumps fall apart, and they stick to the sides and bottom of the box. I’m on here now looking for a new litter. What’s going on with this?!

Not good litter for a neat freak

I did a lot of research before buying this litter. I was looking for something that was zero to no dust and track free. The first two bags were great. After that everything went downhill. They must have changed the material or were having quality control issues. This is starting to become a thing in both litters and cat foods that I'm finding the over the last year. Anyway, the last bag of this litter we opened up 4 days ago. It is the dustiest bag of litter we have ever had. And I mean out of all the litters I've tried. And my cat who has watery eyes and is the reason why we switched to this litter started coughing and his eyes were watery again. Looks like I'm going to be spending the weekend dusting every single piece of item off in my basement for the fourth time. Not happy at all. Will not be purchasing this again. I purchased two bags of pine litter pellets we will try that next.
