I started buying this in August of 2022 and loved it. It clumped really REALLY well and didn’t seem as dusty as other litters. I have a cat with asthma so I am always hunting for low dust clay litters (she won’t use anything else). I don’t expect anything to be actually dust free but this one was my new favorite and covered odor well. Over the last couple of months the litter has been so dusty I have to wear a mask to scoop because it’s just a cloud of litter in my face. The bathroom I keep my two litter boxes in is also caked in dust compared to when I used other brands. Also, the clumping is not as good. They crumble terribly when I scoop contributing to the bad smell. I am disappointed as this litter is highly recommended everywhere I look but I won’t be buying it again and have went back to another brand that, for now, I like better.
Worst litter we have ever used. It clumps but sticks to the cat bin to the point that you're having to use a chisel to remove it to clean the cat litter. We scoop daily and it didn't make a difference if we tried to scoop sooner or more often. Cleaning the cat bins for the litter refresh was a major chore as we had to use some elbow grease to scrub the stuff off the cat bins to be able to change out their litter. We have 3 cats and 3 boxes and this stuff was AWFUL even scooping daily. Never Ever Again.
Unfortunately, I bought 2 40lb bags of this because SO MANY cat people recommended it and online it was always rated in the top 10 litters. It DEFINITELY is NOT 99.9% dust free. I understand a little dust when I pour it but there is dust when my cat uses it which has irritated his eyes. Also it tracks SO MUCH which drives me crazy. However, the odor control is superior to others I've used. I was in the room while my cat was going and didn't smell it, so if oder control is your biggest concern I would recommend this one for sure. The clumping is also great and very easy to scoop.
I've tried several litter brands with mixed results. I did some research and based on recommendations, decided to give this a shot. I couldn't be more pleased with Dr. Elsey's. We have 3 cats, so the litter boxes get ugly quickly! We have been using this for a month or two now and I don't smell anything - even when we're less than diligent at cleaning. It clumps very well which makes scooping super easy. I highly recommend!
Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Unscented Clumping Clay Cat litter is the BEST! NO odor! EASY clean up! Love it, love it, love it! Thank you Chewy for your awesome products. Great prices and fast delivery. You're the BEST! Thank you Darren Gray for turning me on to a wonderful company and great product. You're the best!
I have been using Tidy Cats for years now but it has become so incredibly dusty that I couldn't scoop the box without wearing a mask and it smelled bad straight from the bucket. A friend suggested this litter to me so I decided to try it. I saw an immediate difference right out of the bag, there wasn't a weird odor and it wasn't dusty at all! I have been able to scoop my litter boxes without a mask for the first time in months now. I'm sure my cats appreciate it too!
At one time Dr Elsey's was our usual litter. Then something changed, the cats didn't seem to like it as well and I noticed a lot more dust. I still buy it from time to time hoping for what it used to be, it's not. This will be my last purchase. The clumping is terrible. It's forms a damp gooey mass that sticks to everything and itself. If it's not scooped immediately forget it, you'll be dumping half of the litter pan. I scoop all 5 of our litter boxes once a day. I can't do that with this litter. It's like glue and practically needs to be scraped off the bottom and sides of the box. I've found myself needing to fully wash the box every other day. There is very little odor control. The only positive things I can say for the particular bag I received, it has very little dust and it is low tracking. Those are reasons I originally liked it but the negatives outweigh that for me.
Was a loyal customer of this product until something changed. It is nothing but a dust cloud now. I run an air purifier near the litter box and still everything is covered in dust. It didn’t used to be this way until the last year or so. No longer a fan. Will not be purchasing this product anymore.
I used Dr. Elsey's Ultra Clumping Litter a few years ago, but stopped because it was expensive. I started using it again several months ago after being very dissatisfied with the other litter. The first few months it was good. The clumping was pretty good and formed really hard urine balls that were easy to scoop. Odor control was decent but would smell stale after 2 weeks. Recently, I've noticed a change in the quality. We always buy the biggest bag. The grains were much bigger the last few months, the odor control was mediocre, and the tracking was terrible. It went everywhere. On our bed, the carpet, the floors, etc. Worst of all is the sticky cement paste glue-like mess it leaves on the walls and floors of the litter boxes, as well as the scooper. The litter had to be incredibly deep for that not to happen and even then, it still does because my cats like to pee on the same corner over and over again. Also, the urine clumps no longer clump as well as they used to. The clumps break off and leave little pieces the scooper filters through its holes, so I spend way too long crouched and squatting scooping litter. Not good. We switched to Arm and Hammer Slide which quite literally, slides the litter off the scooper and litter box walls and floor.
I don't get the negative reviews of this product. We have used many different litters in the past and this is a very good choice. It clumps well and has minimal dust. It also doesn't have that dusty clay litter smell that can permeate the house. Some people complain about it not covering the poop smell. Well that's probably because it's unscented. However I haven't found that to be a problem. The only down side I've seen with this litter is that the grains of litter are bigger and coarser than others we've had and it seems to stick to their paws. We have dark wood floors and the litter seems to track all over the place. Not sure if this is a deal breaker yet but I wish it had finer grains.
